How is it that I have never reviewed our favorite Chinese Restaurant in LB? Everything on the menu screams different variations UMAMI! All hot, fresh, delicious! Today we were approaching hangry, and knew that if we ordered a lunch special, we'd get delicious soup almost instantly, and we'd have leftovers for dinner! My partner was craving the kung pao tofu which blends with the brown rice beautifully, as does my order, the Chili Chicken, so garlicky and tender. We were also craving the spicy green beans, the perfect blend of crunchy and tender, spicy with the perfect touch of sweet! Be sure to consider some of our other favorites: the hand made chow mein (noodles alive and freshly made), the beef is simply crazy tender and lovely, ANY of the vegetables and tofu, and all their soups are to die for. They make their own ginger ale; but if you are wanting to boost your immunity or simply avoid the sugar syrup, I paid for a ginger ale but requested just the ginger juice (super hot and strong), and drank half and chased it with my diet coke and poured the rest in my soda for a ginger diet coke with lemon (yum). Food can be fantastic or completely bland depending on the day. Generally everything is pretty good! Weekends are best! Decor could be better and because they are Halal there's no pork on the menu. I have Celiac disease and came here on 7/13/26 after seeing it hyped online that they offer gluten-free options. My husband ordered the gluten-free beef chow fun ($15.95.) I asked the waitress if they cook the gluten-free noodles in fresh water to prevent cross contamination because not all noodles that they offer are gluten-free. She said she'd check and then came back and said yes. My husband got the gluten-free lunch portion of short ribs for $17.50. The soup that comes with the lunch specials isn't gluten-free. I got the gluten-free Mongolian beef for $22.00 and a side of small rice for $1.95. Food tasted great and the portions were generous. Unfortunately I had the worst glutening symptoms of my life afterward that have included more than a day of elevated blood pressure right after eating and 3 days of diarrhea. I can't say that it was 100% this place because that cyclosporiasis parasite is going around (and I had green smoothies more than a week ago) but the timing is suspicious. I also noticed that there wasn't one of those "employees must wash hands" signs in the bathroom. I hope I'm wrong and I didn't get glutened here but it was not even 30 minutes later that I started to feel glutening symptoms. We were immediately seated but by the end of our time there, the inside of the restaurant was pretty much full (they have a fair amount of outdoor seating too). Food came out in a good time, especially considering there was a large party having a birthday party at the same time. We ordered a number of entrees and 2 appetizers. Everything was pretty good with my standouts being the hand-pulled noodles and the tofu & shiitake mushroom entree. You could tell the hand-pulled noodles were fresh and made by hand. The sauce on it was good but too salty. The tofu & shiitake dish was served in a savory and tasty home/brown sauce. The scallion pancake was good as well, just much thinner than other scallion pancakes. The Chinese broccoli was good, but I thought it was more bitter than usual Chinese broccoli dishes. Nomad is the best local Chinese Food! We ordered to go frequently and occasionally we dine in. Take out orders travel well, packed to keep the food piping hot! Leftovers reheated very well (take out ir dine in). The quanities are very generous and we usually get several meals out of one order! This visit we dined in. We ordered some of our favorites as it was only two if us dining. Their Hot & Sour Soup is the best in town! Mongolian Beef and Honey Walnut Shrimp are two main dishes we again. Both were excellent! Todat is Valentines Day! I have been sleeping on this establishment for years. I did not know there was a chinese food restaurant in this area. This place is hidden! The only way I found this restaurant was through youtube. There was an old Asian couple that gave this place high praises in their YouTube review. Kudos to that couple for doing so! This is the only reason why I wanted to check this place out myself. Entered this establishment and was greeted by the host. She sat us down next to the glass windows. Asked what we wanted to order for drinks, I stated a Coke and some water. Minutes passed, received our beverages. Water tasted good! Ordered from the Lunch Special menu which was only $15. That is a great deal! It comes with soup, entree and your choice of rice (white rice or brown rice with egg). This Lunch Special starts at the time of opening to 3pm. 7 days a week! Excluding federal holidays. Entrees ordered was snowpea chicken and some beef peppers. The taste and presentation did not dissapoint. They serve you alot of food for being a Lunch Special. The quality is fresh! Overall all I was impressed pertaining to quantity and quality. The ambiance does not have fancy decor or tables/chairs. The place was old school. I felt like I was in the 80s. We love going to Nomad for our big family dinners. They are so great about reserving a large table to accommodate our family, usually at least 10 people. The restaurant is busy and bustling, but we are still able to have conversations at the table. The food comes out quickly and accurately. They are able to accommodate additional orders within a reasonable amount of time and we never leave hungry for sure! Everyone is friendly and helpful. This is a big place with a lot of seating. Some close friends told us about this place, and I made it high time for us to come in for a visit. This place serves traditional Chinese but doesn't have pork. Why you ask? This restaurant is a Chinese Islamic restaurant. They have Arabic artwork and it really works well with everything on the walls. Before I get to the food, I wanted to write about the help. A waitress named Mary came by and sat with us, helping us out figure out what combination of dishes we should have. She was a nicest, most personable person I have ever met. She looked after us from beginning to end. Since my partner wanted the Jalapeño shrimp, we got veggie fried rice, broccoli beef, and chicken chow mein. Before that, she wanted a pair of veggie egg rolls that came with a dip and she really enjoyed them. The food came out, but I waited for everything to come out. I visited this establishment with my mother for evening rations. This was my mother's second visit but my first visit. My mother was happier with this establishment than I was. We were seated and ordered lamb and shrimp. We each ate some lamb and shrimp. A bowl of white rice was also served. I thought that the shrimp was satisfactory and the lamb was good. We were not able to eat all that was served so we took the uneaten portions home in "to go" containers. Men's washroom was satisfactory and paper towels were available... good. The ambient noise level was VERY high which made it extremely difficult to carry on a conversation so I am going to ding this establishment one point. I noticed that at least some of the men who worked at this establishment failed to tuck their shirts in. I consider that to be highly unprofessional so I am dinging this establishment one point for that reason. I recommend eating here with a herd so you can try more dishes. It was just two of us so it was hard to narrow it down without reinforcements. Caramelized Black Pepper Chicken: So tender with a sauce that was drinkable. We tried. It was a toss up between that and the Filet Mignon. Next time we will go in beef mode. We both took home plenty of leftovers. Scallion pancakes: Four massive pieces of deliciousness. Oily on the fingers/worth it. I recommend a minimum of four people or it's going to follow you home as well. Service was immediate and personable. The food came out timely and piping hot. We were there around 8 PM on a Monday so it was fairly quiet. For the size of this restaurant, I could see it getting very busy and loud/Still worth it. Condiments in the tables have a slimy film on them obviously not cleaned in some time. We should have left but thought the food may be different. We ordered Braised Shrimp (average), Cashew chicken (fast food quality) and Combo Fried Rice (Gross). There were pieces of beef in the rice that were dried out and had a bad taste as if food stored in a freezer the quickly thawed. Overall it was a huge disappointment. Gross, dirty. Came here for dinner around 8:45pm last Friday since my friends and I were working on a project nearby. Surprisingly they still let us dine in and the restaurant still remained open with other new customers coming in as we were eating. We were immediately seated and the server was really kind. We were a group of 5 and I definitely did not expect the portion sizes... they were HUGE! It's hard to tell in my pictures but trust me! It is located near PCH and Second Street in Long Beach, a couple hundred feet from BevMo, in the Same Plaza. There is plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. It is a Mother-Daughter owned restaurant and was established in 2013. Jamilla Ma, the mother has an extensive experience in Asian cooking and a passion for combining classic flavors with contemporary techniques. They offer Asian cuisine with influences from China's Hui culture and a focus on fresh, handmade items like their Thin Sesame Flatbread. It is also the only Halal Chinese Restaurant in North America. So, they do not serve pork nor do they offer alcoholic beverages. The quality of their food draws people from all corners of SoCal and beyond. Dinner is always the busiest time and during the month of Ramadan, you can expect to wait an hour or more unless you show up an hour before breaking fast. The restaurant is spacious but yet Cozy. The lighting is comfortable and the earth tones on the walls as well as the simple Chinese decor makes the space very inviting. The setting is casual and family friendly. Noise level is moderate to very loud depending on the day and time. They have a large Tv on the wall with close caption that no one watches. They only serve family style meals. So, it is best to go with 2 or more people or take the family or a group of friends. Otherwise you may have lots of left overs. Every dish is large enough for 2-3 people. On a summer night, I Love sitting on their open air patio that is lit by string lights, while sharing a meal with friends and family under the stars. I could not start by describing the amazing menu. It is extensive and has every Chinese food dish imaginable. Beef, chicken, seafood, vegetarian, rice dishes, hand made noodles and endless combinations and flavors. I'm sure that I'm missing some things. (See pictures for actual full menu) They use the freshest ingredients and everything is made in house. They also have some delicious beverages such as the fresh pressed Ginger ale and their seasonal Peach Ice tea. The List goes on. In a desolate forgotten area surrounded by newness. I read something along those lines on Yelp which guided me here. Had been meaning to go here after a friend told me they had gluten free Chinese marked on their menu. I went with my teenager and his friends. We each ordered a lunch special which came with a choice of soup. We all got egg drop, which had little veggies in it. I think that's a first. It was very good. And then we shared family style. For me this was a blessed experience because we could share and I never eat Chinese food because it's not worth being poisoned. The staff was both friendly and attentive. It was my birthday Friday dinner, and it was my turn to choose what I wanted to eat. I picked Nomad because the food is consistently delicious and the service is always friendly. Plus I love the fusion of Mediterranean and Chinese. The portion sizes are pretty large, too. I ordered shrimp chow mein and steamed wontons, and I still have part of the chow mein left in the refrigerator three days later. We always order in on Friday nights, so I can't really comment too much on the atmosphere, but the food was ready by the time I arrived, even though I walked in a few minutes early. We came here during the lunch hours and they serve lunch specials 7 days a week! We upgraded the egg fried rice and wow... quite impressed with the egg fried rice here. I was expecting the usual plain, white, mild egg fried rice but what came out was a brown-ish looking egg fried rice that's just so tasty! Of course the main dishes themselves were also outstanding! I really liked the juiciness and black pepper flavor of the filet mignon, the crispness of the walnut shrimp and the umami of the kung pao three flavor. Delicious Chinese food with a unique menu. Have never had halal Chinese food but this place does not disappoint. Everything was flavorfully well-balanced--no overpowering tastes. The stewed ox tail had a nice sweet and tangy flavor to it and the oxtail itself was "fall off the bone" tender--a family favorite. The black pepper stir fried sole fish was a little oily but definitely a good choice. I recommend upgrading to the Egg Fried Rice for an extra $2; it's absolutely worth it. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Shrimp and the Short Ribs, the latter being the must-try based on rave Yelp photos. A friend recommended this place as she says their food is delicious and she was right indeed. We had their lunch special , which is held till 4p Mon to Fri. It comes with soup, rice and a main dish. I had their lunch special hot sour soup and my husband had the egg flower. For mains we had honey walnut shrimp and filet mignon with pepper sauce. We loved the filet mignon because it was tender and flavorful, the brown rice was soft as well and the hot sour wasn't too spicy. The service was also prompt and we were seated right away. She maintained excellent food quality and standards. After it changed hands--multiple times, it seems--the decline became noticeable. On my visit last week--which will be my last--I found the place in a disappointing state: dirty walls, filthy doors, and worn-out crockery. Serving water in steel cups only added to the letdown. The food was even worse. Long-time customers would likely agree that the quality has dropped significantly. The short ribs were so tough they were nearly impossible to chew, more like leather than meat. The jalapeño chicken lacked both jalapeños and flavor. This is a busy restaurant that has Asian food. The surface was very good. We had two entrées and rice. The fried rice was way better. They put out a picture of a sweater and give you glasses and didn't even ask if you wanted to order a soda or anything else like that. I thought that was unusual for a restaurant.
