Great diner food. Service is like a well oiled machine. Terrific little spot. No bells and whistles, just good food.

We tried Wildlife Grill during a recent trip to Oak Island and both ended up ordering the BYO omelet. Both of our meals were served hot off of the grill and were obviously prepared by a very experienced cook. The omelet was perfectly cooked, flavorful, and the fillings were great. The shredded hash browns were definitely not up to the standard of the omelet as they were dry and just lukewarm. My toast was, well, toasted bread with a small dash of butter as expected. Service was friendly and efficient. The owner stopped by to introduce himself since he didn't recognize us. We both appreciated this. Wildlife Grill is your basic coastal grill and is far from fancy, so the personalized service made a big difference to us. I noticed that on the check that the price charged for our omelets did not match the price on the menu and there were no surcharges listed to account for the difference. Given the otherwise positive experience, I let this slide, but this was a red flag and something I will check for in the future. read more

Look you want a place that has the feel of locals and really good omelets as well as loaded hash browns. This is your place. This is one of my husbands and my favorite places because it is so divy and yet all local. It's the place you go to get great service. Good food and not care about the ambiance. I' travel for work and this charming, flavor packed restaurant saved me from eating a candy bar for lunch. Not what it used to be. Very limited menu now, and the quality has diminished. Breakfast is no longer all day. Was in there lunch today at 12:15...prime time, and it was dead. It used to be packed. The word is out since they changed management. Food was way overcooked and bland. Sure hope someone can revive it. As a long time local customer, its sad to see it like this now. read more

Today's experience was cringeworthy. The food was solid like normal. We saw several regulars. But the treatment of the waitstaff by the owners was uncomfortable. The waitstaff do a fabulous job always. And the lady owner was belittling them, calling them out, etc. The diners at the counter were witnesses to this behavior and were appalled. It made my experience feel icky. read more

Super cute small town diner. We ended up here on accident (every restaurant in town had an hour wait for breakfast) and we LOVED it! The service was fast and very friendly. Our burger & patty melts were delicious & were a good price! We left very full and happy. read more

Really cute down home diner. I ordered a platter with assorted items such as mozzarella sticks which they forgot so I told waitress. (Not her fault. It also had squash,mushrooms,okra. Everything was deep fried. They had salads and sandwiches. I really liked Melanie our server. She was fun and sweet. A movie was filmed here in Southport and they used this diner. My only critique is the deep fry but I did like this place. read more

They, like so many other businesses in the area are having a hard time finding staff. While I am a big fan, as are many, many, locals, this staffing issue is a problem. Not sure if they have gone back to a full schedule, since they had to cut back to a Wednesday thru Saturday schedule, but sure hope they do find a new cook that can do close to how the owner does. I have been coming to Southport for many years and after reading a review decided to try this place. I got there around 10:30 breakfast is served till 11:00 ot was a Sat morning so slept in. I went to place my order waitress started but when I could not decide when to wait on other people. When she got back to me and I was finishing my order the cok said they were out of grits, really. I asked of they coukd make and said they do not start a new batch if they run out after 10:00 am. I asked waitress to call manager she came over as she lives next door. The manager was rude and said she has never had a problem when running out of grits. I was upset as I had to change whole order due to this. She said she has never had anyone bring up and I said not until me. She was rude and not friendly at all. I asked if she could make some and she said no that once out that is it. She also said I should not wait until 10:55 to order in which I corrected her. She said they do not know if they will run out and all the bacon they made if not used at lunch would have to be thrown out since they are closed the next day. Not my problem. I feel if you have been in business as long as her you should have an idea of what is used and what is needed if not for anything else food waste. I finally got my food after 20 min which I took home. It was ok nothing to get excited about,liver pudding was mushy pancakes were ok,egg was alright but not scrambled like requested. The next time I will try somewhere else as this place was not great and owner was rude. read more

Went there on a Friday morning about 0800 for a professional development session with my Soldiers. This is an old school traditional diner with the basic diner decor. Our waitress was friendly, engaging and attentive. I had the breakfast special which was 2 eggs, 2 sausages, and two pancakes. Everything came out quick and was very tasty, especially the pancakes. Overall great experience and someone paid for our meals which is always a humbling experience. We did leave the waitress a very good tip to make up for it. Great place to go! Check it out. read more

Wd received the worst service this morning. We waited an hour to get our food and when I asked the waitress about it we got attitude with no apology. They are more interested in talking to the regulars who came in. They were served before we were even though they came in after we were seated. Worst place to eat. read more

What a dump! First of all the name should have been an eye opener .Makes me think of road kill, but took my mother in law for breakfast as I had heard they make a really good breakfast. In retrospect ,how does one make a bad breakfast? I was embarrassed, we pulled up saw a woman standing outside smoking, looked like she was homeless and waiting on a pick up.We walked past her and went in.Sat at a sticky table and the waitress came over and wiped the table with a grey looking cloth and took our order for coffee, which was good , strong and hot. That is were the good ends. We both ordered Bacon, hash browns and eggs. How can you go wrong? The food was decent, not great and when I looked toward the grill, I saw that the woman who was outside when we pulled in, was the cook. We finished our food and I went to the bathroom, a nasty ,filthy room without towels to dry your hands, the window was cracked open, the floor was nasty , I wont mention the condition of the toilet and sink . We left and I apologized to my mother in law for taking er to such a dive for a meal. Wont ever go back! read more
