We visited Fat Ass Winery for our anniversary and had such a great time! The customer service was excellent--everyone was super friendly and made us feel welcome right away. They've got some really fun and quirky decor that made for perfect photo ops (seriously, bring your camera!). Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon as we awaited our nearby Airbnb to open. It was 5 women and we were in town for a concert and overall great weekend. We loved the name of this place and upon arrival loved it even more w a crowded dance floor and a dj playing the best millennial music my heart could take. We went inside to order drinks and it's such a cute indoor area with lots of gifts or souvenirs. I went with a white peach wine and it was so delicious! Several other in our group had various levels of dry or sweet and everyone was having a great time. Plenty of photo ops, beautiful flowers, and security on the grounds to keep things from getting too out of hand. One of the Top and Funnest Winery's in F-Burg! This place seems to be hopping on Saturdays and the Peach Wine is very refreshing! They now have a Brewery as well but sadly we did not have time to visit that part. The onsite Taco Truck was also very tasty! read more

We had two tastings at Fat Ass, one sweet and one dry. My husband had the dry and I had the sweet. Really enjoyed both but I especially want to compliment the lady who helped us. She was great! If you love sweet wines like me, they have plenty to try! When you walk into the tasting room, you are welcomed with a big "Welcome to Fat A$$!" Shout! lol. Our tasting guide was named Nina (9-uh). She was awesome! The fruit punch wine tasted like Hawaiian Punch. I needed a little more peach in the Peach wine. My favorite two mentions out of their sweet tasting is the blueberry lemonade and the blackberry. The blueberry was more prominent than the lemonade flavor, but I liked that. Quick stop on our hopping experience. They do offer flights however you need to stay at the bar (where there are no seats) to get each one or have to come back in to grab the next if your sitting outside(this was on the winery side), they do not serve them all at once. This is a dog friendly location where they provide drinking bowls and water for your furry friends. It's a quick stroll through their Vineyards to the brewery where they also serve flights. THE BIG: Located in Fredericksburg right on the 290 winery strip. Big indoor outdoor venue with live music! Private parking lot and it is always packed. THE BLACK AND WHITE: My wife did not want to come here BUT I was able to convince her to at least check it out and support a local business. The place was bumping when we got in. Everyone was dancing to reggaeton. We entered the tasting room area and it was packed! Fortunately an opening popped up at the end of the bar in which we snagged. The tasting was either dry (er) or sweet. We chose the dry since sweet isn't our wheelhouse. We got started off with a rose, then a viognier, then a mourvede, then two other wines. We couldn't drink 2 of the wines because it was such an interesting sweet flavor. Service was great and fast :). When we were leaving, we saw people line dancing. Can't wait to join them next time. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall a flight of 5 wines was $15. Great price for a great vibe and tons of people are celebrating along with you! This place is super cool looking with fun props everywhere and surrounded by a lot of flat land that gives it its cool vibe. The bartender was funny and very informative about the wines they make and their frozen sangria was delicious (up until the point where it gave me heart burn). Not many wines give me heartburn but the ones that do I definitely stay away from and this is the only reason I can't give this five stars. Also we stood around the bar because for some reason there were no chairs? Although you can def take your wine and sit outside but then you can't really do a tasting if you do that. I'd heard great things about Fat Ass Winery, especially that they have donkeys on-site! I was thrilled to meet one (though I forgot his name). He was adorable and let me pet him for a few minutes before deciding he'd had enough. We tried the peach wine, which was absolutely delicious. Came here on a cloudy Saturday with a few friends. For South Austin residents, this was a short 1 hour drive out of town. Through lots of farmland and small town areas. Lots of parking around the winery. Be sure to take a picture with Despite the bath weather, that did not ruin the day! On Saturdays they have a great assortment of music for all ages and generations. He played some great popular line dance music as well, that got everyone out dancing. Plenty of outdoor seating. It is first come first serve, but there's plenty of space to spread out. Inside you can do a sweet or dry wine tasting. The staff was nice and knowledgeable. It is a little busy around the bar area, but we were able to be served pretty quickly. After our tasting we bought a two wines and enjoyed them out on the patio. They have a food truck, during my visit it was a grilled cheese truck. I wish there were more options for food out there. Especially more vegetarian/vegan options would be great. Overall, had a great time. This is also a dog friendly location so that is a plus. This was a popular bachelorette and birthday party spot and a few other wine tours seem to pass through. So you're always in for fun with other party goers. read more

Dropped in for a quick wine margarita on the way home from Fredericksburg. We sampled the peach margarita as well as the blackberry-lemonade margarita--all made with sangria wine...but ultimately all three of us settled on the classic red sangria margaritas. They were yummy and hit the spot on a hot summer day. The lady who helped us was sweet and talked us through our different flavor options. Not gonna lie..they had my attention just from the name! When I saw that their wine tastings were priced at $15 per person to try out five wines.. I was sold! As I am not a big wine drinker, I kept it safe and tried out their sweet wine options. They were pretty good! To top things off, they let you keep the glass you drink from, which was nice to have as a little souvenir. The staff were friendly and knew a lot about the different wine offerings. The only reason I didn't end up buying a bottle, is because I couldn't choose just one. They were all so good! We went on the 290 wine bus tour available right the parking space in Inn at Baron's in Fredericksburg TX and it was initially not a great ambiance for the first few wine places we stopped by. I'm not a wine fan so I left my wine tasting out of my rating haha! but this was a great spot for a birthday and would be an even better spot for a bachelorette trip, or girls day out. -One of the highlights of this excursion was getting to meet little Frito! he is the donkey they have at the ranch- and is to die for! -At first I was apprehensive what the vibe would be of this place- but the DJ definitely set the mood with wide variety of music styles like country, r&b, Line dances, and Rap and Hip Hop! Moms were definitely relieving their past on the dance floor with all their bad twerking (Yikes) but this is a good spot if you come solely to turn up. -The people giving the wine tasting were slow in service- but I grant this to being a busy day. I visited Fat Ass Winery on a Saturday afternoon with a group from my apartment building. There were quite a lot of people there, but the property is massive so we had no trouble getting a seat outside. The counter at the tasting room was almost fully occupied, but we still got helped right away. All of the staff members were super friendly and quick to give us our next round when we finished each glass. I opted for the sweet wines based on other reviews, and they were SWEET. The wine tasted more like juice than wine, and you couldn't really tell if there was any alcohol in each glass at all (which could be a good thing depending on your taste). I will say that the wines are super unique, with flavors like PB&J and Chocolate, but if I'm ever back I'll try the dry wines instead. The winery also has a free tram that will take you back and forth from the winery to the brewery. When I was there, they had different food trucks on each side, so be sure to check them both out! read more

But this particular winery had a dance floor and very lively. They offer a wine tasting in the first building and more in the second building. Can definitely get one tipsy. Based on the amount of wine they have for sale, they have a large variety for the tastings and presume they rotate especially with their seasonal flavors. The second building offered a continuation of a wine tasting or one can opt for a beer tasting. Very modern building with that 1960's Beer & Cars aesthetic. Very cool. We went to both the main winery and the wine tasting room downtown; some people get confused when submitting their reviews. If you go to the winery I recommend buying your food elsewhere because the food truck takes FOREVER for the food options they offer that are super simple. So if you can buy your food elsewhere and take it there do it. But the place is a good vibe. But I also recommend taking a little cooler or something with ice because depending when you go it's HOT and they only have alcohol lol and some of the drinks they give you like the wine bottles are room temp especially the water bottles they're NOT cold. So just to be safe take a little something to be able to cool down if it's hot. The place has a good vibe because the DJ has music going. I would return because I liked the flavors of the sweet wines. read more

My husband, his parents, and I made plans to visit Fat Ass when his parents made plans in Fredericksburg. It was our first time there, and it was a fun time! They offer $10 wine tastings, which include 5 wines. They allow you to decide to try a sweet wine tasting or a dry wine tasting. My husband prefers dry wine, so he opted for that tasting and unfortunately he did not care for any of his wines. He preferred the sweet ones. I tried his wines and honestly they weren't terrible, but I would recommend the sweet tasting for a better experience. They have really cool flavors, and we were all mind blown by the PB&J wine! It truly tasted like a PB&J. We also walked to the brewery to try some beers, and they had some really good flavors here as well! We also appreciated the classic car theme in the brewery as we are all big car and motorcycle fanatics. They have cute areas for photos, and they are pet friendly! My husband's parents brought along their frenchie, and she had a blast getting tons of attention. It was unfortunate they didn't allow pets indoors, so my husband's dad had to stay outside with her while we grabbed his drinks. We did also have to ask for a cup of water for the pup because the water bowls outside for dogs hadn't been cleaned and had dead bugs inside of them. They also don't allow you to walk around or go outside when you get a wine tasting, which I found very peculiar based on my experience at other wineries and vineyards. They did allow us to take our beer flight at the brewery outside. Something I thought was nice was they allow you to keep your wine tasting cups if you'd like to at the end of your tasting experience. It was a fun memento to take home! In all, I think this place is certainly fun to visit and try out, but I would keep your expectations low about the wine you're trying. read more

We came in for memorial weekend. Our server, who we did not catch her name, she had a tongue ring and thick drawn eyebrows was extremely rude. We each did the tasting and she was all over the place, despite there being three other servers. She almost seemed drunk. It took FOREVER to get through our tastings, we asked to purchase a bottle and then asked for the check three different times. I went to sit down while my husband waited. 6 different groups came in and she helped three. He held his card up again. Still she said ok but we waited and waited and waited. Finally i walked to the bar and said can we just check out, we've been waiting to just pay. I absolutely needed to leave due to a personal reason. Having to beg for the check is just insane. And to be treated like we are inconveniencing her or we are being rude was just over the top. She snatched the tablet and our card yelled the total swiped it then walked away. I get wanting to help customers but we are a customer too. 69 bucks for two tastings and one bottle of wine, and a horrible waitress. Never again if this waitress is there. read more

I came here for the first time today on the way to work on my ranch! I actually came here not to get vino but to get a snack. Unfortunately, today the food truck was not here. Although there was no food, I decided to take a gander anyway to see what's what. When I came in, I was greeted promptly by a barback with an upbeat demeanor. As I was already advised there was no food on the premises, I decided that I would sample a seasonal vino. I elected to go with the apple pie vino. This vino was sweet with subtle undertones of cinnamon with a medium body. It wasn't so sweet that it was a dessert wine (like a Riesling, which I loath). I wasn't expecting this vino to rival on my all time favs like the PharaohMoans Syrah Paso, so unlike other Yelpers I wasn't turned off by the sweet candy-like vino.
