    Blackberry fried pie
    Rachel S.

This was the first time I tried Fat Boy's. There were only a few cars on a Friday night. When I entered I was warmly welcomed and told to look at the menu, order, pay, and they would bring my food to me, wherever I sat. I love brisket, so that's what I got. My sides were baked beans, which I had heard were great, and mac and cheese. I also got the blackberry fried pie, that the cashier suggested. Drinks here are self serve and be prepared to clean up after yourself, too. There's a large can to dump your trash across from the drink station. They have a nice big dining room as well as picnic benches on the front and back porches. If you choose the back porch, there's a nice view of the Autauga River. On the tables you will find napkins and condiments, including their bbq sauce. I really hate to say I was underwhelmed. The brisket, while moist and tender, was swimming in grease. I tried pulling the meat away and putting bbq sauce on it. It was edible but for $17.50 I would have liked to enjoy it more. The bbq sauce was just okay. It was made with pineapple juice which gave it a sweet taste but it wasn't great. The baked beans that I'd heard great things about were a paste consistency. Again, it was just alright. It was edible but I wouldn't get them again. They had a bit of a sour taste. The Mac and cheese was good and I did enjoy that. The plate is served with a slice of white bread. The star of the meal was the blackberry fried pie. It was flaky, sweet, and delicious. I really hate to say I doubt I'll be back because the staff here is so sweet.

BBQ pork and brisket were amazing. Really enjoyed our sides of baked beans and coleslaw too. Added bonus is they are pet friendly, so our pup could sit outside with us. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would eat there again if we are back in the area.

Perhaps I came on a off day or closing time but it didn't hit the spot like I expected. I tried the brisket, Mac n cheese, onion rings and the banana pudding. The brisket was a bit dry for me, the onion rings were typical frozen onion rings and the Mac wasn't ooey gooey. However, the banana pudding was delicious!

We stopped at Fat Boy's on the way back from vacay in Florida! I searched on Yelp for a bbq restaurant near us. The reviews were great, so we gave it a try! It's off the beaten path & further away from 1-65. We passed several other restaurants en route to Fat Boy's! My family grumbled because we were passing a ton of restaurants. I was crossing my fingers that Fat Boy's would be good, as I needed to save face! Well......my family was apologizing once we received our food! Which, by the way, came out in record time. The staff is beyond friendly! Definitely, Southern hospitality was at play! The sweet tea tasted just like my momma's. I had ribs with potato salad & baked beans. The portions were huge! It was all SO good! Hubby had the Fat Boy Special. It was a sampling of all the meat they serve. It came with three sides. I tasted his fried okra. It was REALLY good!! I have ZERO complaints. Everything we ordered was just delicious! Take the time to venture off the beaten path to Fat Boy's BBQ, where they serve up out of this world food w/ a side of southern hospitality!

The Fat Boy BBQ Ranch really is like a ranch. They just need some cows and horses and dogs outside. There's a dirt parking lot in front of the building that is next to the "crick." The benches on the front porch are perfect for sipping iced tea and going to town on good BBQ. It all smells good. Head on inside to order at the counter before you get your drinks (all you can drink cups so don't order the gallon unless you're taking it to go). There's tables inside too but the air conditioning was cold. I would rather sit outside but I'm sure that's nice when it starts getting hotter. Ribs and pulled chicken were great. Some ribs fell off the bone and some didn't - must have been two different batches. Beans are the best I've ever had and I bought a bottle of BBQ sauce to take home. Coleslaw was different with cut up dill pickles in it, I liked it but it seemed a little more runny than I like it...pretty much the norm for this area though. Totally forgot to try the hush puppies. And if you order the peach cobbler (made with canned peaches) it's kinda small so don't expect to share. Ask them to throw it in the oven for a few more minutes (or 30) cause the crust was underdone.

This is the most tender moist and delicious no sauce needed ribs and brisket with baked beans and fries. I really enjoyed my lunch today.

Mediocre BBQ. Service okay, but much better BBQ to be found in the area. Wanted it to be better.

Fantastic BBQ. We especially over that the meat was not overly smokey. Definitely worth a 5 Star review.

By the time you get up there to pay and get your drink cup, the food is already coming up. I ordered the pull pork plate with 2 sides and a drink for $11! Can't beat that price. The fries came out hot, the pork was juicy, and the greens flavorful. Doesn't come with sauce on it but there's plenty of options on the dressing table to pick from. The only downside is the parking situation... it's insanity, with folks here in work trucks, cars, motorcycles, you name it. The line just to get in the door can be long, but the staff does a great job of getting people in & out within the time of their lunch break. Pack your patience & give them a try!

I know people throw out places like Texas, the Carolinas and Tennessee as barbecue meccas, but I stand by my claim that some of the best barbecue comes from the great state of Alabama and Fatman's is great proof of my claim. I walked in and there was a line, but it moved fast and the helpless taking our our orders were friendly. The inside is pretty much low on ambiance, but the food is the real star here. Since it was packed inside, I got my food to-go and ate at a nearby park. I had the pulled pork plate with camp stew and potato salad. Everything was absolutely wonderful. I would definitely recommend here and I give it five stars.

The ribs were larger than expected with a tangy vinegar based sauce that made them delicious flavorful. The smoked sausage was just as good without being too dry. The chicken was juicy and we'll shredded, and the spicy rib wrap was well balanced with the portions that had some heat to the coleslaw due to jalapenos on it The sides were very good with the beans being the best option. The mac and cheese should have been the hero and while they were cheesy they lacked that favor you'd expected from a BBQ joint. The potato salad was decent, but nothing to write home about. Honestly the fried okra was surprisingly the second best as the sweet coleslaw underperformed Overall, the meats made the trip worth it, the vibe was amazing as it had that laid back feel and the service was great! They don't sell hard liquor so went with beer, but the selections we limited. I'd still recommend trying them out if you are ever in town. Cool spot that makes you feel like you're in the South!
