I placed an order from here on Door Dash, about an hour after I placed the order I called to see when the food would be ready because it was taking so long. I was told they no longer work with Door Dash and they refused to make the food. This whole ordeal was ridiculous and they won't cooperate with DoorDash so I can get my money back. Overall okay. We ordered this for lunch when we were staying in the area. We did a pickup order. They had a good selection of items to pick from. The pickup was quick and swift. The casual sub shop is ok. Stopped for a quick bite. Ordered at counter and served in a timely manner. The service needs improvement its two people doing everything. The cook is in view watching you order. The other person has too many responsible items to do. A third person would help. A chopped sub was overflowing with meat and cheese served in a basket chips in a bag extra and soda in case Is self serve..i would go back its a nice small business trying to make it. I so wanted to love this place. I love the owners of over easy cafe but my experience here was not that great. Let me start with the positive. The service is great and it came up very fast. For that I would have given them five stars. However, the sandwiches themselves I would give one or two stars. Chicken Parmesan should probably never be grilled. But if it is gonna be grilled, it should taste amazing. It was very bland at best. As was the sauce. And the Philly cheesesteak was one of the weaker ones I have tried. The roll tasted like a hamburger bun. Not very soft, as if it were made the night before. The meat was bland and it was in large chunks. It really should be chopped up much more than that and it just didn't have very much flavor. And the house Specialty homemade hot sauce, I'm sorry to say was not to my liking. They tout themselves as having the finest steak subs in town with killer cheesesteaks. Unfortunately they are definitely not the finest. But the people are great. Fat Freddy's Sub Shop is small nearly hole in the wall "cash only" sub and cheesesteak operation. Located in an aging strip mall, and though it has a couple tables and chairs, basically serves sit down over the counter and take outs. The key slogan of Freddy's offerings is: "Stuffing your buns ALLways," and on that count they do pretty got job of it as their steak and cold cut subs come super stuffed. I ordered their menu listed "Favorite" steak sub which consisted of a super thin electric sliced ribeye beef, onions, mushrooms and cheese done on a griddle and served up in an Italian style whole wheat sub roll; sort of a knock off of the famous Philly Cheesesteaks served in Philadelphia at Pat's or Gino's. However, for my taste, much better both in flavor and taste than any I've ever had at either Pat's or Gino's and containing substantially more meat, cheese and onions; the bun really being totally stuffed. One of the keys to a good cheese steak sub is to get the ingredients of meld together retaining moister and full flavor. On that count, Fat Freddy's really does it well. Mine was moist and combined with a mixed full flavor of all of the ingredients used which I found to be one of the best most flavorful cheese steaks going. The service I had was good, I enjoyed the casual laid back counter service atmosphere of the place and the food at prices no other establishment I know of can beat for what you get. I was not aware that this used to be awesome sub shop has changed ownership. We have eaten there for about 30 years or so. We moved from the area about 10 years ago and come back frequently but this last trip was very disappointing. The staff do not have much personality and the food was not good at all. Been going for years. The original location was in a strip center in Plantation that we used to go to in the 80's. Matt and his wife work the store like a well oiled machine. They use shaved steak that Matt chops up using his spatula. You can get the traditional steak and cheese with or without onions or you can go for their steak bomb with peppers and marinara. The store is only open for lunch on weekdays and has a huge counter and takeout following so Matt starts with a griddle full of steak. He manages the lunch crush with a pan full for steak shavings he just cooked so it is fresh even if it looks like he is making your sub from a precooked pan. The bread is delicious. I've been to Pat's and Geno's and while it's kind of similar to Pat's, Fat Fredddy's doesn't used cheese whiz. As others mentioned, CASH Only. read more

I've seen this place many times inconspicuously tucked into a strip mall on Prospect Road just west of Andrews Ave in Oakland Park. I go over there fairly often to mail stuff at the general store called Ward's City, which is much faster than the post office, and also my barber is over there. Anyway, back to Fat Freddy's, I stopped in today for the first time. I saw they have just about every type of sub, but the ones with grilled chicken on the menu caught my eye. I asked which one was the best of the chicken subs? The woman behind the counter was very friendly and nice, she said they are all good but probably the chicken bacon & cheese. Then she asked 3 pretty big guys seated at the counter if the chicken bacon and cheese was good and they all nodded. She said all 3 of them were eating one right now. I went with a large one ($8.00) with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and "light" mayo and she actually listened to me when I said I only like a small amount of mayo on my sandwich. Most places just slap it on there thick no matter what you tell them. The sandwich was delicious, by the way. Service was also fast and friendly, so I will have to stop in there again sometime. It doesn't seem like many people know about this place, at least this location because I'm over there lunch time probably once a week and I never see a crowd there. It is small inside with only a few tables but most orders are take out it seems. It is run by a husband and wife team and they do all the cooking and preparing. This sub shop is decent. I enjoyed a steak and cheese sandwich for lunch. I wish I had asked with onions or peppers or something because although it was good, it needed a little more flavor for me to rate it 5 stars. It didn't seem there was any seasoning on the meat which can be a plus or a minus pending on what you prefer. Provolone cheese alone couldn't carry it all the way to five stars I'm sorry to say... lol There certainly wasn't any shortage of meat on the sandwich either which was pretty encouraging to see. I definitely will head back there for another sandwich sometime soon. Reviews led me here, i am from Jersey & wanted a grest cheesesteak. i ordered cheesesteak w/ onions & musrooms & they only placed 1 thin slice of cheese & no onions. the meat was not great tasting quality, it was an okay cheesesteak, nothing to brag about. the 20 something guy working register was nodding out from some heroin drug he is on, that was disturbing to watch while eating. he is bad for business. i wont be returning to Fat Freddies. read more
