We owned a bar in NY with amazing wings for years so I am very picky about my wings. These were by far the best that I have had. They were absolutely delicious!! They were extra crispy (as all wings should be in my opinion) and very flavorful. We tried 4 different sauces and I loved them all. The fried corn on the cob was a huge hit with my daughter as well. We enjoyed the atmosphere. Cool little place. We got the wings, of course. When we saw the wings were about $1 each, we assumed they would be jumbo or something special. They were just average. The flavor was good. I wished they would have let me split the flavor but when I asked I was told no. When the wings got to the table, there were two things missing that I was expecting. Celery and dressing. I realize some people don't eat the celery or want dressing but it's usually offered. I asked for a fork and got a cheap plastic fork, really cheap. Been eating at Fat Jacks for years being a local. We ordered our wings and an appetizer of onion straws. When the onion straws came out they were cold, soggy and greasy. We asked if we could get an order of hot ones so when they brought those out they were burnt. The owner came to the table and ask us if there was another appetizer we wanted to try because she said the two orders of onion straws look acceptable to her. I could not believe she said that. The more she talked to us the more upset we got. For an owner to come out and talk to her customers like that was bad business. Fat Jack himself was in house sitting at the register when we walked in. We asked for a take out menu, at which he rolled his eyes and sighed stating that take out orders were up to 1.5 hrs. The restaurant didn't look packed but we decided to sit at the bar as suggested by the nervous server who over heard the initial conversation with Sir Jack. Ordered a Sangria which was pure juice and a beer. Where do I start...I'll first say that coming from the north where we know how to "do" wings is most likely the reason for my jaded point of view. I can sum this up fast. 4 flavors order as well as corn and fried mushrooms. Everything was dripping in grease. The flavors of wings were okay, very basic in flavor profile, extremely plain tasting. Asked for the wings well done.. which in hindsight was the only thing they did right here. The wings came out crispy, most likely because there was half the meat that normal wings have. When you bight into the corn you get a spray of what one would expect to be warm corn juice popping from the kernels..however no. It's actually just grease. All corn flavor extinct from the poor kernels. The fried mushrooms were breaded in a flavorless white coating and after one bite, the inside told my pallet the same thing as the outside = there's no flavor here either (insert sad face). Completely dissatisfied all the way around. We have been before, and didn't enjoy it the first time, but wanted to give it a second try. The staff was not helpful, the food is expensive, the wings do not come with celery, carrots, or even dipping sauce. We had to pay two dollars for a small container of blue cheese for the wings. We asked for fries and extra pickles with the burger, and received a bag of chips and no pickle. 12 wings, a burger, and a beer for $30. We love Fat Jack's. It's a small restaurant located in Surfside Beach and their specialty is Wings. They make all kinds of wings however my favorites are the Parmesan wings.They also offer my husbands favorite Bitburger Beer. Horrible customer service. The guy Junior, that does take-out is either racist or does not like male customers. He was very rude when he took my order. My order took a lot longer than he quoted, which was not a problem. Junior would swap stories with female patrons and let them know how long on their order. He never acknowledge me, instead he would look me in the eyes frown and turn away. From the time we entered I could sense he did not want us there. I did have two servers come to me and ask if I was helped. This was the only bright event upon this visit. I eventually left without my food. I did not like receiving dirty looks and hearing other guest talk about how rude everyone was. Junior if you are going to treat people poorly, you should get payment for take-out first. They charge 2.50 for two smallest size ramekin cups of ranch and celery and carrots which was fine until I saw the condition of the veggies .. So disappointed! Party of 16 !called before to let them know! Owner said no problem. We get there and owner "Junior" stated they do not take reservations. He sat us at three different tables. There were two empty tables in the main dining area, we asked if we could all sit there because the tables sat 8 each. Told us it was his restaurant and he needed them in case another party came in. Well we were there already did not understand that statement. Also the gratuity was already added because he was afraid of us not tipping. We dined there before and gratuity was never added. Family went here our last night in town. My husband and son love chicken wings and this place met their expectations. My husband said the wings reminded him of home. We live in NY (upstate) and good wings (and pizza) are hard to come by when we are traveling. I had the BLT sandwich and it was HUGE which I wasn't expecting. Our waitress was great. We visited Fat Jacks last nite ! I guess that was our first mistake ! The second mistake comes with a premium so customers beware ! I ordered 10 boneless wings off the appetizers menu . My husband then asked for 15 boneless which at the time didn't present a problem ! Upon receiving our Oder and dining ( and I use that term lightly as the grease just drops off of whatever your eating whether it be wings , fries, or onion rings) we asked for our check ! I was appalled to see that 10 boneless were 7.99 and 15 boneless were 17.99, there must be some mistake!!! I proceeded to the counter where Mr Fat Jack sits!! I was promptly given a lesson on how to order in his restaurant! Apparently ordering 20 wings would have been cheaper than 15 and no where on the menu did he state that!! So he begrudgingly refunded me the difference and told me to order correctly the next time !! Talk about entrapment!! Tourist beware and local be shamed !! This is just down right wrong !! I think the only assets to dinner was the poor waitress who was getting reprimanded when we walked in and I'm sure once again when we left for no apparent reason other than we fell Mr Fat Jack was price gouging and was caught ! We have been coming to Fat Jacks for at least 8 years- we always get two buckets to have for lunch each day while we are at Myrtle Beach- My husband always gets the Kamikaze and I get the Hawaiian - we ate at the restaurant on Friday night (tradition to eat there on our first night of vacation) my husband got the philly steak- it was so greasy that the bread was soggy. I got a hamburger and it was also very greasy- we ate our sandwiches without the bread because of the grease. We were VERY VERY disappointed in the sandwiches and the wings. His wings were not as hot as they usually, not as much sauce on them and all of our wings were cooked too much-they were tough. We know that the restaurant has new owners (which have been there for a couple of years) and they have added on to the restaurant. We don't know what happened to the cook but something has Changed since our last visit in March. Hope they get it together - this used to be a really Good place to eat. We had a combo platter with traditional medium Buffalo style wings, parmesan garlic, Hawaiian style (can't remember exact name) and the sauce of the month, which was beer and bourbon. All were wonderful, and the price wasn't too bad. 3stars instead of five, though, because Jack himself was the host- and he wasn't overly friendly- almost snotty to my mom when she mentioned that she was there this past winter and the place looked different - he was rude and replied that it was re-done in October- and I could tell she was embarrassed. After we were seated she realized that they we had entered through a different door, so that was why it looked different to her. It just left me with a weird feeling of not being welcome. Anyway, the food was good, but the owner was a jerk. His attitude reminded me of Porky from the movie.
