Hamburger Joe's is one of those places that doesn't look like much from the outside, but that's part of the charm. Everyone was friendly, enthusiastic, and attentive, and our food arrived in about five minutes--even on a Sunday afternoon. The burgers absolutely lived up to the hype--juicy, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the meal. The fries were good, but the onion rings were the only disappointment. From the outside, the place has that slightly worn, local-legend vibe--and if you know, you know: that's usually where the best food hides. Sure enough, the menu didn't disappoint. Helen lit up when she spotted a bologna burger (a rare find!), pairing it with onion rings, while I went straight for their famous cheeseburger with fries, loaded up with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and sautéed onions. The presentation was charmingly simple--everything served on individual paper plates, giving it that laid-back, beachy feel. No fuss, no frills--just good food and good vibes. Helen was absolutely in heaven with her meal, and while my burger had fantastic flavor, the toppings were a bit underwhelming--light on the veggies and missing those sautéed onions I was looking forward to. We had a really good experience here. Plenty of parking in the lot. Restaurant was very clean with great decor. I felt relaxed walking in and enjoyed my time there. There is a main dining area and a few tables outside the main area. The outside part is air conditioned. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She checked on us multiple times to see if we needed anything or to refill drinks. The burgers were really good. Regular burger, no fancy name no super secret ingredients. Just a good burger cooked exactly how I asked. We also tried the wings. We were able to get half mild, half gold. Not a lot of places allow you to mix. Wings were very tender and crispy. Not sure how you can go wrong coming to Joe's. Whether you intend to just stop in for a quick bite, or hang out and have some drink's, Joe's is hard to beat. I stopped in recently just for a quick bite, sat at the bar. Joe's has kind of a cool, beach bungalow vibe going for it. Within about two minutes my bartender asked if she could get me anything to drink, and about 60 seconds after that I was sipping on a beer while looking at the menu. I ordered a double cheeseburger and fries, and from where I was sitting, I could watch the cook prepare it. He immediately through my patties on the grill while the bartender prepped the bun with the condiments. I couldn't have waited five minutes for my whole order to be ready. Super fast! The fries were good, they looked fresh cut, but were crispy, which is not my normal experience with fresh cut, they are usually a soggy mess. Hamburger Joe's is one of our absolute favorite places to dine when visiting Surfside and NMB. I can't say enough good things about their food. It's cheap, quick, and oh so delicious! We always sit at the bar and the waitstaff has never been anything but kind and welcoming to us at either location. The beer is super cheap, especially the Natural Light at NMB and PBR at SB ($1.10 a beer!). The NMB location will pack OUT, and probably SB, too. Be sure to carry cash when visiting NMB as it is cash only. You absolutely MUST try the wings with the gold sauce. They are the best wings anywhere and I crave them all year and look forward to having them every-time I visit. The sauce is the perfect balance of spicy and sweet. I love it so much I purchased a pint to take home. The wings themselves are a great size and the ranch is wonderful. The burgers are phenomenal and smash style with any traditional topping you could ask for. You've got to try the double! Also love their hotdogs. The fries are good, too, but pretty basic. Recently ate here with family. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. It was very family friendly. The food was also relatively good. I got a cheeseburger all the way and it was pretty tasty. I also ordered the onion rings which were also pretty good. It's not anything super fancy and it's kinda low-key. If you're looking for something to do with family after a day at the beach I definitely recommend it. We also had a 15 minute wait, which was not that bad. Service was pretty good. The waitress was attentive and if she were unavailable to bring me a condiment or something, she always made sure that someone else quickly brought them to me, so I was very pleased. The atmosphere is also very fun. Lots of really cool decorations, license plates, college decor, an old gas pump & fun stuff to look at. They have TVs with various programs like golf and other stuff. It's a family tradition that the first place we eat at when we get to the beach is Hamburger Joes. It's one place that the entire family will eat something. Normally I get a double cheeseburger and fries but tonight I decided to change it up. I got the Hickory pork BBQ sandwich, fries and mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. I was pleasantly surprised by the sandwich. It was flavorful and tender and wasn't full of fat like Sandwiches I've gotten at other places. The mozzarella sticks were cooked perfectly and delicious. The fries were fries, it's hard to mess them up. I give Joes 4 stars because it is on the pricey side for burgers. My daughter gets a grilled cheese, my son gets a plain burger, my wife and I both get double burgers and fries with one appetizer and it's around 60.00+. Time for another Yelp review! Hamburger Joe's was definitely a great place to stop by. It was a fantastic burger place providing excellent fast service and delicious burgers. I do have a lot of experience with burgers and food in general as a matter of fact, I eat 3 to 4 times a day . I got just a regular cheeseburger, and it did not disappoint. It came out in about 7-10 minutes, and it was this melty but crisp, fresh, juicy burger. Our waitress was also very friendly and had this hilarious t-shirt that said "Hamburger Joes" and "Eat my Buns." It had us in tears; as a matter of fact, that was another product of the restaurant that did not disappoint . It seemed like a touristy place from the outside but was a nice calm inside, plus plenty of TVs to watch ESPN from the inside. If you don't have cash, they charge you 4% more. I know about the evils of swipe fees but that's about double for a normal swipe fee. I also don't like paying with cash because I can't carry thousands of dollars on me when I vacation. I also know that most of those cash transactions will be under the table and reduce the tax paid by the restaurant. Taxes are a legitimate cost of doing business. Other than the rant above, this is a good smash burger joint. It's not fancy at all. Reasonable prices except the surprise above. I'll not be going back though.
