Fabulous!!! My favorite place for breakfast in Brooklyn Park. Allow waiting time to get a seat.

My wife and I ate here on Saturday at about 8 a.m. . The restaurant was only about one third full so we were able to sit down immediately. The decor is extremely bare. Maybe they ran out of money for decorating, or maybe they just did not care, either way very plain. My wife ordered fat Nat's slider, and it was very delicious. The hollandaise sauce was obviously mass-produced, but that is a minor complaint as far as I'm concerned. I ordered the Davids omelette. It comes with corn beef hash inside of it and the cook is obviously not a fan of corn beef hash. If he was he would know to cook it well done so that it had a crispy quality to it. Instead my omelette was filled with salty mush that was just barely browned before placed inside. We ordered one pancake to share. It was a tiny bit on the light side, but otherwise it was ok. Our food came out very quickly. I'm assuming that is because the restaurant was mostly empty. I have never been inside while they were busy, so I don't know how the service would be then. Our server was very cheerful and friendly. She checked on our meal soon after we received it, and refilled our coffee several times. My only complaint about the service was that we had to wait for the check at the end a little longer than normal. This restaurant could have gotten 3 stars instead of 2, I could not make up my mind. Friendly service, decent food, terrible atmosphere. Neither great, nor awful. read more

Not a big breakfast person, but when I do go out for breakfast, this is where I go. I have only been to the Brooklyn Park location. Have been there with colleagues before work, and been there with my kids. All have loved it here. Staff is friendly, prices are great, alot of choices on menu, service is fast, courteous, and thorough. I have loved everything Ive tried, except the hashbrowns...too over done, but I still love Fat Nats. read more

Yum, yum, yum! My husband and I had breakfast this morning at Fat Nat's in Brooklyn Park. We arrived at about 9:45, and the parking lot was almost full. It was going to be a long wait for a table, but we grabbed a seat at the bar almost right away. I always feel sorry for my husband when we go out for breakfast. With all the options out there, a plain pancake is just bread, but he always goes for pancakes or waffles, and God forbid they should have fruit in them. Fortunately, I have a somewhat broader palate, and I get to experience much more of what the breakfast world has to offer. This morning I had green chile huevos rancheros with carnitas. It was a great blend of flavors and textures, with the runny egg yolk and the chewy, porky carnitas served over crispy tortillas, all smothered in a slightly spicy green chile sauce. We will definitely be back often. I want to try everything on the menu, but I'm afraid the green chile huevos just won't let me; they were that good. Service was prompt and friendly, prices were reasonable, and my breakfast was delicious and memorable. Only four stars because my husband said the pancakes were nothing special. read more

BEST breakfast you will ever find! Especially if you like flavor! And, if you like spicy flavor you're in luck! The salsas and spicy avocado sauce are to die for, especially on the huevos rancheros papitas favritos! I get it with the carnitas almost every time and I have a to go box every time. This is the only breakfast leftovers that never ends up in the trash at home. My husband gets the fat nats slider every time and loves it. Plus, everyone here is always in a good mood which is pleasant. The cooks are in the kitchen rocking out and I love sitting at the bar while they cook and play the drums with their cooking utensils, it's infectious. :) read more

Our neighborhood favorite! Their pancakes are so unique-! Crispy edges with a almond extract hint. The Eggs Bennies are wonderful. The decor is bare bones, but the food is phenomenal , and the kitchen knows how to create a good vibe. read more

It was a stormy morning, and we didn't have a lot of time for breakfast, but Fat Nat's gave us the ray of sunshine that was missing in the sky. The Eggs Nat's Benedict were perfectly poached, with creamy and flavorful hollandaise, and a generous portion of American fries, seasoned just enough, and cut into tight wedges that were perfectly shaped for shoveling up the yolk-holllandaise residue. The menu made me want to come back. The several varieties of omelettes looked intriguing; the huevos rancheros were tempting; and the 7 or 8 Benedict options revealed Fat Nat's confidence -- entirely justified -- in its hollandaise recipe. The service was friendly and fast. We were in a hurry, and they got us our order in under 10 minutes. The sweet options were not as strong or original as the savory -- but plenty good enough to make for satisfying side-dish portions. Exterior of the joint is a strip mall; interior ambiance also leaves something to be desired. All in all, strong recommendaion. read more

Stellar customer service. Love the avocado egg benedict, like everyone else. Also love their pan cakes. Ask for the verse sauce on the side so you can control it to your tasting. Again, the service is really great. I've been here about three times now, and I've had consistent service where the servers aren't pushy but will help you pick out something to eat. They make sure your coffee cup/water is full and that you are tended to. They'll take care of you. Oh and fyi American fries = potato wedges, not French fries lol. read more

Is the food good? Yes, by all means it is. But the wait staff has got to learn basic customer service skills! After waiting on a busy Day for a table (which is fine - I get that is beyond their control) we were finally seated and a waitress took our orders for drinks. We got beverages and then we were basically forgotten. We waited for what we thought was around 15 minutes. When the waiter came over to take our order we pointed out that we had sort of been waiting for about 15 minutes with no service and the guy immediately said, "no you haven't." No apology. No "thanks for waiting ". Instead we were handed a challenge?? I hope he enjoyed his 7 cent tip. He never asked if we were enjoying our food? Is everything ok? Saddest experience ever and weird too. I get the feeling that this is a family run business and we were served by the black sheep of the family. read more

I think there breakfast is awesome. The green chili sauce is a must have. It is a good american dining spot for breakfast.

Oh Fat Nat, we are breaking up. I love your green chili, but can't deal with your attitude. I am glad your business is so good, you can refuse to serve food with out the risk of salmonella. You have a sign saying you need to ask for hard cooked eggs on the wall, yet you refuse to make a hard cooked poached egg, and tell myself and the breastfeeding mom next to us that you and any other restaurant can not make a hard cooked poached egg. LIAR! Are you really so busy that you can't cook 2 eggs for 2 minutes longer? We all left without breakfast this morning, and will not be back. I am glad that you have never had an egg that gave you salmonella, but for those of us who have, we can not risk the taste for the chance that we could end up hospitalized again, nor do we care to risk it for our kids. Thankfully, we found another restaurant to replace you, but I will miss the green chili. PS. Huevos are never served with crispy tortillas. Always soft where I come from. I love the food at Fat Nat's but I recently dined in at the New Hope location and as my friend and I sat and chatted after finishing our meal a waitress approached us and I asked for water. She said she would get us both a glass but then said "We have a group of 30 waiting for this table so if you could wrap up your conversation that would be great." We had only been in the restaurant for under and hour and enjoyed our breakfast. I thought this was very rude. She then made a comment a few minutes later to our waiter about how she already told us we had to hurry up and leave. Disappointing to be told to hurry up and leave but the food as always was great. read more

First of all the food at this place is great! it's been a while since I've had their food. So today I decided to go in and grab some delicious food but sadly it wasn't enjoyable. When you first enter theirs a bunch if people who were waiting, Yes i know it gets busy but I wrote down my name and waited like everyone else. After a while i started to noticed some people were getting seated before me and my friends. So i went to go look at the waiting list and they crossed off my name...I politely asked the server why they crossed off my name and she said that she called out my name three times but I was actually standing there waiting for my name...neither me or my friends heard her say David at all. After being seated we ordered our food. My friends order simple stuff like :pancakes, eggs, toasts, and sausages. I ordered the Bacon egg avocado Benedict. It took 30 mins for the food to come out and on top of that it was a new waiter who brought out the food for us, i waited another 10 min for my food. When she brought it out to me, i decline the food because i was no longer satisfy with anything anymore. We also sat down and order our food next to another table who sat down after us, order after us and they still got their food first. I mean we didn't order anything too crazy, beside my order. Oh and the waitress didn't even apologize or anything so i'm going to take my business somewhere else now. read more

I highly recommend going here for breakfast or brunch. Great food and a very nice staff. Hours are pretty slim though. But the food here is worth trying. Best American breakfast I have ever had. Much better than IHOP, Dennys and so on. read more

Love this place! Simple diner atmosphere, the best blueberry pancakes (the size of your plate!), and Nat's really nice!

Ok but nothing special to me, I must have ordered the wrong stuff - the blueberry pancakes were tasteless, after waiting a long time seeing them sit under the lights by the cook ( server forgot them) scrambled eggs were good - breakfast potatoes were cold and service was poor. Had a bad experience here this morning. I usually visit FNEs during the week and walk right in and sit down. At 10am on a Sunday there is always a wait but my wife had to have the eggs bennie, which is always awesome. Place was jammed with about 15 folks waiting. The counter was also pretty full with only 2 single seats available. One person left the counter and a gal, that just walked in, asked a couple to shift to the right making 2 seats now open which she and here friend took. I understand that the counter area is open seating so congrats to the gal, that just walked in, to make the move she did. Now another gal walks in with a friend and she takes a single seat at the counter. The couple to her left has finished their food and is leaving. Another couple, that has been waiting for about 30 min, walked over and basically stood behind the couple leaving. There is now a conversation between these 2 couples with the couple that had waited 30 mins backing off. After watching all of this action at the counter my wife and I left. I was surprised that the FNEs staff does not have a better policy regarding counter seating during busy periods. People come to a restaurant to eat not wait. Waiting to be seated is always a negative for any food establishment, so the waiting process should be as fair and managed as possible. If the counter area is basically full then it should be managed just like the regular dinning area is. read more

The food was okay, but I wasn't a big fan of the service. I sat at the counter after no one would seat me. The server I had was a little too casual for my liking. When I told her I was ready to order she cut me off and said I had to wait. Not a big fan; probably wont be back. read more

We are lucky enough to live nearby... The food here is wonderful, service is great - the restaurant will be busy. Locals and those who've heard about Fat Nat's both come to enjoy the food. Eggs Benedict offerings, there are several, are wonderful; make your own omelettes are wonderful; the whole menu is great! Stop by and enjoy the great food!! read more

I love Fat Nat's, especially the huevos rancheros and blueberry pancakes. The atmosphere is lively and it's affordable. But, there is not a changing table in the women's restroom, so beaware if you go with an infant or young children. read more

Dont get me wrong... Food was great but i have neer been sicker. 4 hours after eating here I started feeling sick... 2 days later it cleared up. Im guessing it was food poisining but i cant be sure. Be carefull. read more

I've been going to Fat Nat's occasionally since before the Brooklyn Park one opened so I've been there at least 20 times, probably more. A few things stand out: 1) The clock on the wall is so unique and I want one, but can't get one. It was special-made for them and the creator won't make more. 2) The potatoes are a healthy portion but the "American Fries" which are red potato wedges are drenched in grease - I think it's liquid shortening. It sure ain't butter and come on, breakfast in Minnesota without REAL butter? That's a big strike. Strike two is that although the hash browns are less greasy you have to pay more to get them. Really now, white potatoes aren't that much different in price or more difficult to prepare. I don't know of another place that charges more for hash browns than their "American Fries" (which aren't true American Fries anyway, but when you drain the grease they're usually cooked through and good. 3) The omelets all seem to push vegetables. They discontinued the "Larry's" omelet which was the best of the bunch IMO. It was essentially a club sandwich omelet. Bacon, cheese, turkey, ham and tomato and very good. 4) I often go there by myself and have learned to sit next to the coffee pots so I can get a refill when I want one. Seems like 1-2 person groups aren't allowed refills, so I help myself. 5) The waitresses are usually very pleasant but not always the best. You usually get 3 visits (1- Take order; 2- bring food; and 3- Give you check and watch t see how much of a tip you leave!) and beyond that, you're on your own. Much of the food is geared more as "Tex-Mex" I suppose. Minnesota farmers are more interested in meat and cheese in omelets rather than vegetables, salsa and beans. The pancakes are OK but they have the cheap "pancake syrup" and not a real maple syrup. So they're nothing special. At least Perkins has the apricot syrup, Country Kitchen has butter pecan, and Denny's will heat the syrup so they've each got something going over Nat's. This is a simple thing, not expensive, and really detracts from the place. All in all, I will go there occasionally but it's not cheap, not outstanding food and not really better than Country Kitchen or Denny's. But it's a 2-store operation and I want to help those businesses when I can but the problem is, I just can't handle the awful tasting grease they drench everything in so I can't go there too often. I need to find something else there that's not grease-soaked. This isn't intended to be all anti-Nat's. It is a nice enough place to try out. Just be aware that there are better places out there. Sadly, none are in close proximity to Nat's and I live close by so I wish it would be spectacular. read more

A couple of my friends stopped in for our monthly breakfast get together. We had been there the month before and had enjoyed our breakfast so much that we decided to come again this month. This time when we were seated the radio was blasting from the kitchen (it was hard rock). We ordered our breakfast and had a hard time even hearing the waiter. We mentioned to him that last time we were here it was a lot quieter, all the waiter said was "are you sure you were here?" Then we asked if they could turn it down a little so we could hear each other across the table, he just walked away without saying anything. The radio was turned down for about two minutes then it was turned up even louder. By the time we left I was getting a strained throat from yelling across our table. We all thought the food was excellent but the loud music was BAD !! We decide that if that how they want to treat customers they must not want us back. So next month it another restaurant for us. We give the food (five stars) Woohoo! As good as it gets! and the rest of our visit a (-one star) Eek! Methinks not. read more

We went to Fat nats in brookly Park on 9/27 for lunch. We wre highly dissapointed in the changes since the previous time we were there. None of the friendly waitress staff that helped make the visit enjoyable worked there anymore. The music from the kitchen radio was so loud we couldnt hear each other talk. In previous visits, we would have to wait to be seated. The cafe was virtually vacant of customers, an indication to us that this seemd to be business as usual. We will not be back to Fat Nats. Unfortunate because the concept was good. read more

Yep, it's in a strip mall, but it feels like going back in time. The food was delicious. There are several variations on eggs benedict. Great tunes on a Sunday morning too. You should definitely give this place a try. Yum yum. read more

Worst service I have ever received. I don't even think they put in our order. We never got checked on, never got drink refills, 30 minutes later and we still hadn't received our eggs or drink refills and the kitchen staff were all standing around and laughing in the kitchen. I highly recommend finding breakfast somewhere else if you want to eat within the hour and receive some kind of service. read more

The music in the kitchen is extremely loud and terrible heavy metal with some clown singing and using cooking utensils as drum sticks. You cannot have a conversation due to the loud obnoxious music.
