Fat Nat's has three locations, and now I've been to all of them: St. Anthony, Brooklyn Center, and the original in New Hope. They have a lot in common. The menus appear to be the same, the spaces are large enough to accommodate big crowds, the service is efficient and friendly, and the food is consistent. The open layout is appealing and fits the "classic diner" vibe perfectly. The other thing they share is HUGE portions. For example, my wife ordered the "short stack with bacon." It sounds innocent enough, but the pancakes are the size of hubcaps and stuffed with what feels like a bushel of blueberries. That's not a bad thing, but my wife ended up taking home about 3/4 of it--which turned into several more breakfasts! By the way, the pancakes were incredibly fluffy and flavorful. I had the hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. Again, it was a massive portion, but I heroically finished it all. The mashed potatoes seemed scratch-made and the gravy was plentiful. I liked the turkey, though I'm not entirely sure it was roasted in-house. The menu says "real turkey," and while I'm sure that's true, as a bit of a turkey fanatic, the flavor was just slightly different than what I'm used to. Regardless, I really enjoyed it. Fat Nat's clearly has their act together; all three locations are remarkably consistent. For a hearty breakfast or lunch, this place is highly recommended. Pro Tip: Be careful with what children or grandchildren order. Guide them toward the kid's menu or make sure they order conservatively from the main menu--unless you're looking to bring home a week's worth of leftovers! read more

This is a very popular place; they turn those tables fast! I brought my mom for breakfast after an appointment in the area. We eat differently, but we were both able to order exactly what we wanted. I went to Fat Nats Eggs and it was just OK. When you walk in you pick your own seat, and it was pretty packed since it was brunch time, so I found a table in the corner. Service was quick and they brought coffee right away, which was actually the best part of my meal. The inside has a classic diner feel and nothing to complain about there. I ordered the green chili Mexican egg plate, kind of like chilaquiles, and was excited when it came out fast. Unfortunately, it was very bland. I get that we are in the Midwest, but it had no spice at all and was missing salt or any real flavor. After about half the meal, it just started to taste repetitive and dull. Had some time before an early meeting in the area and wanted to get a good breakfast. Glad that Fat Nat's popped up. They have some fun twists on breakfast staples (think different benedicts, fruity french toast, etc.). I opted for a veggie omelet, which was perfect. It came with a side of toast or a pancake for no extra charge. I have only been at one other place that does this that isn't Original Pancake House. I usually love this option and would have taken full advantage if I would have had somewhere to store my boxed-up pancake for the whole day. The omelet was fantastic and hearty. Service was great. This was my first time at this Fat Nat's location and it was great! This location has a lot of seating and even a bar area for solo diners. I was meeting up with a friend. I arrived first so I put my name down but they don't seat you until everyone arrives, which was fine but not something the hostess told me. She actually didn't say anything when I arrived and had me write my name and table down myself, kind of weird but oh well. Once my friend arrived we were seated right away. I got the raspberry fritter french toast, this is so good and such a fun twist on french toast! I also got a side of bacon which was cooked perfectly. Our server was great and let us stay and chat until the closed. We didn't even realized how long it had been until they started putting chairs up. Luckily it wasn't busy as we came after the breakfast rush but I always appreciate a restaurant that isn't rushing you to leave unless it is busy, which would be understandable. read more

We live in Brooklyn Park but drive out of our way to this location in St.Anthony as it is the best. The food and service are miles better then the other locations. Portions are huge and nicely served. We opted for the pancake instead of toast. It has a slight almond flavor to it which is delicious. You can swap a pancake for the toast for no extra charge, which i would highly recommend. We usually get either the Norm's omelette, Mike's omelette or the huevos con papas favorito. We walked in and there were people lined up out the door (it was Sunday after church)! BUT it was only a 15 minute wait. Gave us sometime to catch up and enjoy the sun! We were sat && were immediately greeted by multiple servers welcoming us in - that's the Midwest for ya. We all ordered and within 15 minutes we had all of our food! The husband ordered their Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich w/ "American" fries && over easy eggs and 1 pancake on the side. The pulled pork was sweet w/ a tang && get it with an egg on top - it's a life changer. The pancake was HUGE and didn't take away from the flavor - super sweet && a hint of almond ecstract. I ordered their breakfast Green Chili Huevos w/ carnitas. It was delish! Over easy eggs && spicy verde sauce - my game all the way! My cousin ordered their biscuits and gravy w/ over easy eggs && hash browns w/ cheese. YUM! And lastly. The Grandma got Eggs Benedict w/ big ol slices of ham and crispy hash brown. Came here for breakfast with my mom. They were very short staffed with only 2 people taking care of everyone in the restaurant. They first sat us at a 2 person table-there was so many things on the table there is no way to have room for plates so we asked to move to a bigger table. Server took our order and food came out pretty quick. I got the basic ehh, bacon, and American fries. My mom got the corn beef hash. The bacon came out too crispy with the ends being black. My mom said her breakfast tasted good. There was so many potatoes that we brought them home and was able to have them as a side for dinner that night. The food was some of the better breakfast I have had. Not much selection In pancake flavors just regular or blueberry. The biscuits and gravy were good the gravy could use more salt and flavoring. The Lisa was great loved the red breakfast potatoes and cheese was melted. The service was good with it being a typical busy Sunday morning. Service was quick & friendly, didn't have much of a wait for our meals despite the restaurant being full. The giant pancakes were delicious, perfect amount of flavor. The huevos rancheros con papas favorito was good, lots of flavor, but I found the carnitas to be a little dry. There was a nice amount of heat to the avocado crema. The French toast tasted like bread soaked in ultra melt. My visit to Nat's marks the first time that I've taken one bite and left the rest due to my food being absolutely terrible. Fat Nat's is a hidden gem! I'm late to the party. There are 3 locations. Sis and I wanted to try a new place for Sunday brunch, and we picked this place but the Brooklyn Park location. We walked in and walked out. A guesstimate of over 20 people waiting... standing room only. Yikes. I knew there was a St. Anthony location and Google Maps said it was only 11 mins away. Let's go there. But the same thing here, but more like 15 people. We put our name on the list and waited approximately 20 mins for a spot in the corner, a high counter with stools facing a window, looking out into the street. The waitress tried to give us menus, but we knew what we were ordering before we left the house. I got the "Julie" because that's my name. And sis get the "Elmer", not her name. Lol. I got AJ, and she got OJ. The order came out after a couple of minutes, not super long, considering the place was packed. We both got the American potatoes. I thought they'd be more like a diced potatoe, but these were red wedges. Nicely cooked and seasoned, but these would be more appropriate with a steak dinner. And my eggs were COVERED in cheese. Holy cheesiness goodness...yum. The only thing I didn't care for was the toast. I was given different options and wouldn't choose white bread again. It was too hard, not warm when it made it to me and un-buttered. I'm fine putting butter on myself, but because it wasn't warm toast, the butter didn't melt into it. My apple juice was also at room temp when I prefer it chilled. The waitress was great. She paid just enough attention to us and showed up at the perfect moments. And I didn't even need to ask/ wait for the bill. Love that. By the time we were done eating, there was no more people waiting in the vestibule. My suggestion would be to come early (9am) or later (11:30)... just enough time to order and eat before they close at 1 pm. read more

Fat Nat's. Man, I wanted to like you. Lots of great reviews, but just didn't do it for me. Atmosphere is bustling and service was pretty decent. There's a place to sign-in as your whole party must be in the building in order to be seated. Once we got a table, I ordered coffee, which was good, and biscuits and gravy with over easy eggs and hash browns. I don't know if this is a gimmick or just a mistake, but talk about crisp hash browns. Like, burnt. A good portion of them not really edible. The eggs were great, but the biscuits and gravy were generic tasting. Nothing that makes me want to order it again. All in all, I was disappointed with this meal. But, perhaps some of the other dishes are worth checking out. Wish I would've gotten the huevos rancheros. Glad I tried Fat Nat's, but not sure I'll put it in the breakfast line up again. read more
