I happened to be in the Huntington area, and eager to explore. While on foot, rummaging through all the back to school and Saturday evening tourism, an aroma of quintessential smokehouse flavor guided my nose straight to Buddy's All American BBQ. Now, I had my expectations of what my food should taste like, but was 20x more satisfied. The food was excellent, the craft beer was good and the SERVICE; yeah that alone is bringing me back next week. Mayce, Dymond and Vik (I probably butchered the spelling), were so attentive, nice and welcoming. Honestly, I wasn't sure who I was supposed to tip, because they all were extremely amazing. Like, my long, irritating day literally got turned around because of a good meal, good beer and the constant smiles/interaction and customer service! This place was rough... The portions were small and expensive. They were not good. They charged an extra $4 if you order brisket. Which is nuts. The lemonade was awful. This review is for your Milton location!!!! The service was wonderful. The girl who took our order was brand new so she couldn't answer most of my questions about the menu so that was a little confusing. But she was very nice and I appreciated the customer service. The restaurant is clean and they had ample seating. The reason I can not recommend this place is the food. The worst part, the ribs. They were so dry, I didn't know if I was eating ribs or jerky. I considered dipping them in water like ole Clark Griswold had to do with his turkey!! I'm not exaggerating one bit.... It really was that bad. The mac & cheese was flavorless. The coleslaw was sweet but had a yellow tent and too much dressing for my liking. The smoked sausage might have had a good flavor but all I could taste was char because they were so burnt. The house bbq sauce is not good. Like not at all. Ok, the pulled pork and chicken were actually good. The hush puppies are good but could use a house dipping sauce. And the star of the show.... I love this place! The food, while admittedly not the healthiest in town, is consistent. I love to have the Southwest salad with lean brisket and the in-house made dill dressing. We have found the wait staff eager to please and the owners interested in feedback, often visiting tables to see how customers feel about their experience. Further, this is a wonderful restaurant for catering. They bring EVERYTHING so that the host/hostess of the event needs only to be concerned with decorating and activities for the party. This was our go to BBQ in Huntington. But, they've lost our business. They replaced their beer taps and stopped using the freezer that gave them really cold mugs. They kept the price of their large mugs but did away with the large mugs so a small beer costs what the large used to. And the last time they were switching taps and we couldn't even get our preferred brand. They changed suppliers on their fried pork rinds. The new ones were very tough. Their in house made pimento cheese was too spicy for my wife the last time. When we mentioned it, we were told they couldn't control the heat of the jalapeños they got. Perhaps true, but, if you know that's an issue and are making it from scratch, why not just try one and adjust the amounts for consistency? Buddy's is a large BBQ establishment high on manly decor and beer. The seven TV screens keep you up to date with any breaking news in the sporting world and the service is cordial and food is messy. It has good A/C and a covered outdoor seating area if you want to dine al fresco with your man friends. At the recommendation of the waitress, I got a regular pulled chicken sandwich with a side of coleslaw and a sweet tea. The menu is pretty big, but really is just iterations of the same stuff in different forms. Unfortch for me, all the veggies are boiled, so alas, there would be no greens for the day. The sweet tea is huge and very sweet. The coleslaw was good and the pulled chicken okay, improved by the spicy BBQ sauce on the table. The meal was savory, but everything was very soft and squishy. The bun was soft, the chicken was squishy, the coleslaw was shredded very finely. The only items with texture were the tasty butter pickles. Husband ordered the nachos and maybe 2 Oz of pork on it but the melted Cheese was way to much and not good tasting either. Was disappointed. Also ordered nine in wings. After passing by three places somewhat close to I-64, Buddy's was a last-ditch effort to sample barbecue in every state between Pennsylvania and Texas, and they did not disappoint! The pulled chicken and pork platter was damn good. Pork was fatty, juicy and packed with flavor. The sauce was a sweet and slightly spicy Carolina style. The sandwich I ordered is the best sandwich I've had in a year before pandemic started. I'll def be ordering this again. Wife's food was really good too. They towed my sister's car her first day of college. Also, the lack of empathy displayed over this situation was absolutely appalling. I used to enjoy this establishment; however, after this situation I, along with my family, will no longer be giving Buddy's our business. Also, during the towing process, my little sister's car received body damage, and Buddy's told me I had to go through HPD to see their video footage. Along with all of this, the spot my little sister accidentally occupied, was not even necessary. Buddy's only had around half a dozen patrons inside at the time. They messed my order up and didn't fulfil what they promised. I ordered a half a chicken meal and they only gave me a quarter when I got home I was very disappointed. I called them up and told Brandon I told the lady 3 times "half a chicken", he said he would comp me the half a chicken due to the inconvenience. When I get to the store I talk to the heavy set manager and told her Brandon said he would comp the chicken and they did not comp it. When I got the bill they only knocked off $5.00. This again is misleading so I told here again "I'm not supposed to be charged for the chicken". She said sorry that's what notes he put in. I used to be a regular at this joint, but moved away for a few years. It still tastes divine! That having been said, my recent lunch was insanely overpriced...almost $20 for a bowl of Mac& cheese with brisket and a drink. The brisket is great, but there was a $3-4 upcharge for it! How did I find this place? I had the strange craving for some meat on my way from Slade, KY to Fayetteville, WV. After days in the small (nonexistent) town of Slade, I wanted some good old American BBQ, and Buddy's delivered, actually google map delivered when I searched in the 300-mile range. I had my share of BBQ, and maybe Buddy's can't compare to some of the places I been to, but it is my go to place if I ever make the same trip. The wings are very good, especially with the southwest dry-rub. They have a spicy scale. I tried their hottest sauce: The Bomb, it was hot, but compare to some hot wings I had, it will just break a little sweat from your forehead. They are big, and for $10, you can get a order of 10 wings. I ate 6 and was stuffed. My friend got the combo plate with ribs and brisket. The brisket is fatty (yummmmm), but they could use a bit more seasoning. Ribs are just as good as you can find at a decent BBQ place. Pull pork sandwich is only $6.50. Yummmy! Now on to the sides: Hush puppies: a little dry, but hey, I never like them. Potato salads: very good. Green beans: they used the really big ones, mushy, but since I like collard greens, I liked it. Beer, I was very happy to find out they have Bluemoon on tap, served with a chilled beer mug. Hooooorayyyyyy! Service is good, our waitress was on top of her sh!t. Food was good for the most part. I had pulled pork, which was really good and tender. My wife had brisket - a little on the dry side. Side portions weren't necessarily generous though. We joked that John Taffer of Spike TV "Bar Rescue" would go nuts though. Tables weren't clean; our waitress - though nice - seemed a bit clueless as to drinks and the menu; the waitstaff spent more time hanging out at the bar, yammering with a drunk customer (apparently a friend or regular) who kept getting loud and swearing. One waitress kept digging her Daisy Dukes out of her crotch. It's almost like Buddy's couldn't decide if it was a BBQ joint, a sports bar, or The Legion. Draught beer selection was slim. If you're not a Bud or Bud Light fan, your choices are extremely limited. It's an okay place. Doubt we'll be back though. read more

Between good and great bbq depends on the days. The homemade chips with ranch dressing maybe a heart attack on a plate but it is good! The portions are good and will fill you up. Gotta try the sweeeeeeet tea! Served in old school mason jars. I've heard good thinks about the brunswick stew and beef brisket (haven't had them myself but people I trust order them each time). I've had the ribs several times and I haven't been blown away by them but the pulled pork and hushpuppies...get'er done! Usually one of my favorite places to eat in Huntington. Not anymore. Walked in tonite about 7:30 place was not busy at all. Hadn't had a bite of food since 11 am today. My family and I were greeted and seated. We sat and we sat and we sat.. after 15 minutes of sitting and not so much as a "hello", we got up and left. Two other tables were seated after us and served while we sat and watched. I gave it a one star only because I can't give it none. My money is being spent right down the street at Fat Patty's. Went to Buddy's for lunch while visiting Marshall Univ for work. Decent BBQ - lots of smoke flavor and good sauce although their "hot" sauce was barely that. Was surprised to see brisket featrued prominately on the menu this far north - usually don't see good brisket except in Texas! They don't honor the coupon and the food was ok at best. Brisket had a good flavor but a lot of fat. Pulled pork wasn't anything to brag about and the hush puppies were over cooked. I visited Buddy's twice, both times shortly before moving from Huntington earlier this month. I wish I had gone there sooner. The pulled pork sandwich is delicious and the mashed potatoes are remarkably tasty. The service was great for both meals I had there, with attentive waitresses and spot-on accuracy with the orders. My one complaint is from my first visit where trying to use the $5 off coupon with the LoyalTree Rewards app on my phone seemed to baffle the staff. I finally got the discount (and in turn tacked it onto the tip) but both my waitress and her manager seemed confused by it. This wouldn't have surprised me save for the fact that a promo for it is at the top of the front page of their website. "Download the loyaltree app for $5 off your next visit!" But, that issue aside, Buddy's a great place for a meal with a relaxed atmosphere. The sweet tea was very good, ditto for the Yuengling draft beer, and I would suggest you would have a tough time going wrong with the beverages available there. read more

Decent food, but know they are not the friendliest. We have eaten there fairly regularly over the years, and our car was towed literally within minutes of parking recently. We went across the street to take care of something before eating and car was gone. The tow company said they watch the parking lot, because obviously they aren't too busy with customers, and if you don't immediately go in, they tow. Common courtesy would suggest that if they have time to eagle eye the lot, they would have a second to ask our intentions. Even after speaking to management, they sincerely did not care that we were planning on eating there and had been customers for years. Such a great way to welcome long time, or any, customers to your establishment. There were plenty of open parking spots, so that was not the issue. They just lost a lot more than our tow fee.
