    an omelet and potatoes

Food was cooked to order and came out really fast to say the restaurant was crowded. Due to the overwhelming crowd in the inside we dined outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather. The omelette I ordered was named after the restaurant and was very good. The portions of the meat and vegetables in the inside was just enough.

I am always excited to try new breakfast spots on the Northshore. I seem to always go to the same place every weekend and need some new restaurants to put in the rotation. Fat Spoon is located in a strip mall on HWY 59 in between Mandeville and Abita Springs. It is a little out of my way, but I decided to stop in one Sunday and give it a try. I opted for the pulled pork stacker. It had eggs, potatoes, pulled pork and gravy in the same bowl. That seemed like a winning combination, but it was just OK. The pork wasn't particularly flavorful and it detracted from the dish. I think the addition of a sauce other than cream gravy would improve the dish. Service was good and the owner was very friendly. The crowd mostly seemed to be regulars, but we were made to feel welcome despite it being our first time there. I don't know if fat Spoon will become my new go-to breakfast spot, but I am sure I will be back to try more of the menu.

Favorite brunch spot! Casual family atmosphere with a full bar. Seating at the bar for solo dining. They have traditional brunch food ..,,omelets, eggs Benedict and of course mimosas I had the French Dip with Sweet Potato Waffle fries and it was delicious! Bloody Mary was on point too! Seating is a little tight but the service is fast and friendly! Definitely be back!

Sunday morning driving around looking for a new place for breakfast. Here enters Fat Spoon Cafe! We had a good idea that maybe this was just the place to be as we saw cars entering and exiting, the parking lot was pretty filled up. Do we have a winner here?? To answer that question, why yes, YES we do! We were warmly greeted as we entered and informed sit where ever we like, Quickly someone was at our table taking our drink orders. Very quick and prompt service for sure. Checking the menu there were several items we were wanting to try but for me to find out if this is going to be a "go to" breakfast place for me, they need to have good eggs benedict and that they did. My BF gave the Fat Spoon Stackers a try and oh my, lets just say the plate is loaded with food. The biscuit looks to be about a mile high and delicious. I also upped my side of grits with debris and now were talking. I've included a few photos of our meal. Needless to say my BF's plate was cleaned while mine, I just couldn't get it all down. But I did give it my best try. Everyone was friendly, social and very welcoming. Service was fast, food was excellent, honestly you can't get much better. I'm looking forward to giving their lunch menu a try.

We have our favorites on both sides of the lake, but I recently read some great reviews somewhere online about Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen with locations in both Mandeville and Covington. After speaking with our friends we decided to dine at the Covington location of Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen. Inside the entrance, the restaurant posts their policy that you will not be seated at a table until all parties have arrived, which is understandable considering the huge amount of business they have. My wife and I arrived before our friends who were running a little late. The Hostess, Jill, asked me how many in our party and I told her four, but the other couple was running late and would be arriving in about 20 minutes. We took a seat in the empty waiting area inside the entrance. The restaurant appeared to have only one or two empty tables available inside when I arrived on a beautiful day. Five to ten minutes later the waiting area was full (approx. ten people). The restaurant was extremely noisy with all their customers enjoying their meals and conversing with friends/family. I noticed that there were approximately ten tables located in front of the restaurant in a beautiful covered patio, so I asked Jill if we could have a table outside once our friends arrived in about five more minutes because one of them was somewhat physically handicapped. There was only one empty table in the patio at the time. Jill explained that since she had a reservation in the patio for a party of eight that would be arriving soon, so she had been holding it for another available outside table to put together to accommodate this party. However, she said she would gladly give us the table. By this time, the waiting room was full of people and overflowing outside the entrance. I had given my seat to a lady and stepped outside to wait for my friends, who I noticed had arrived and parking their car. I told Jill and she seated us at the table in the patio. The four of us ordered different things on the menu, which were fantastic. Although the restaurant was packed, the waitress AND Jill visited our table several times to ensure we were enjoying our meals. Crazy Pig Southern Kitchens' ambiance, service, menu items (along with portion sizes) and prices were absolutely astounding. We were all very impressed and grateful for a beautiful dining experience. Special thanks to Jill who was abundantly pleasant to deal with. Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen certainly placed Jill in the right position.

We got there before the rush thank goodness, since I am not sure they take reservations or not, this place does get pretty packed. And now I know why. I have to give props to the hostess; she did an incredible job and she used old school tools like paper and pen to keep track of everyone. Anyway, after a brief 15-minute wait and watching incredible looking dishes walk past our noses, we were seated. I knew right away what I wanted. I ordered the smothered brie as an app. The hubs ordered the pancakes, and I ordered the grilled chicken strawberry salad. The smothered brie is literally Fall flavors on a plate. I felt like I was at Thanksgiving dinner and I loved it! Brie + honey + pecans + apples in a rich sauce to dip your bread into is my kind of dish! I felt like I needed a hot toddy to go with it. When entrees came out, I wasn't sure it could top that app, but it did. Those pancakes though! There was something about them, addictive! There was a crispiness on the edges, it wasn't burnt, but crispy and full of the sugary addictive flavor that I kept going back for more. I know you say a pancake is a pancake, but these were different and I haven't stopped talking about them. Then that salad, ok, it's hard to sell a salad but this one is really good. Fresh ingredients, delicious dressing, and huge. I could only eat half. I have not eaten that much on the North Shore, but this is for sure, one the best!

We gave ourselves an hour and a half, enough time to eat and get to our next planned and scheduled event that day. So, we weren't in a rush. We get in the quickly moving line to order our food at the counter. I order a salmon bagel and the hubs ordered a meatball ciabatta. We sit down and I noticed it is a very busy place. It is a very large place and I noticed how clean everything was and how efficient all the workers were at getting the food out. One after the other, food was coming out like an assembly line and the food looked good, too. But the assembly line apparently stopped, no orders were coming out, and we waited about 20 or 25 minutes. At least we had our drinks because it is a counter service type establishment. We noticed stacks and stacks of 'to go' orders were being placed in the counter area. After nearly 35 or 40 minutes we get our food. Some guy had ordered a 'football teams' worth amount of food. So, although it was not the restaurant's fault, it was frustrating the timing that our order was f course put in right after the guy that ordered 20 dishes. I get my bagel to try to eat quickly, since now we are in a little bit of a rush. And the bagel couldn't have been more complicated to eat. I just wanted a complete lox bagel but it was a deconstructed bagel where I had to put the thing together. I would have enjoyed the meal a little better had my bagel been properly served, like for example, the way Flour Moon serves their bagels to customers. I don't know if we will be back because I rarely visit the Northshore, this was a special occasion. I guess if I do come back, I would like to try one or two of the desserts from the case. Those looked really good.

The most concerning issue was that the waitress brought my child a cup of milk that was clearly spoiled. The milk had large curdled clumps, a watery separation, a thick and slimy texture, and a strong sour smell. I kindly asked her to take it back and did not even request a replacement. Her only response was being visibly annoyed and offended by me asking that. Bear in mind that this came after several other issues with this server. We waited about 10 minutes for silverware, during which time my child ate most of his meal with his hands and my food became cold. During all that time, she was waking past us bringing other people silverware and replenishing their drinks, and engaging in casual chat with customers. Three items we ordered were never brought out, and I had to ask for each one separately and repeatedly. When I asked about the French fries she never brought out, she gave me dismissive response that they were included in our meal, and then visually inspected our plates to confirm they were not there. She then brought out a plate of cold, dry fries and placed it on the table without saying a word. The entire experience felt surreal! If owners are reading this, we visited on Saturday, 1/10/26 and were seated in the booth area. I do want to note that the tall girl at the front desk was incredibly kind, and I truly appreciated her for how sweet she was. Our negative experience was solely related to the girl who served us.
