This place has been around for years, but it is their mochi donuts that has greatly renewed my love for them. They may seem boring compared to the fancy over-the-top ones next door, but these had me at first bite. The fluffiness and chew formed into a ring of adorable little balls... wow. Love, LoVe, LOVE FAT STRAWS!!! This is our Bubble Tea spot-of-choice even though there isn't one in our burb. It's just a quick 30 minute drive over to the Plano store on Park! We love the (seasonal only ) Cucumber Mint Tea that is so refreshing. When they do have it, try it with 1/2 lychee jelly instead of boba! But the Thai Milk Tea with half boba and 1/3 sugar is our year-round fave! The mochi donuts took me a minute to even try, but when I did I was like "OK, they're good..." After about the third time eating them I realized that I'm HOOKED, and now they are my favorite donuts! It's the texture, size and lightness of them that makes them so damn enjoyable! read more

Stopped by here after I passed it while driving and I'm glad I did. The staff was so friendly, and they have so many different flavors than I've seen in the past at other stores. The have a rewards program you can sign up for, indoor and outdoor seating, and well as all different flavors of jelly. I got the taro tea in large with bubbles and it was a good amount of sweetness. Not overly sweet or under sweetened. They had a pumpkin spice flavor for the holiday and I wish they had samples for me to try before choosing a new flavor! The boba was light and not sticky and tasted fresh. The other thing I liked was they didn't load the cup with Ice. Other places do that and when it melts the taste is diluted out. I thought it was a bit overpriced though since the donut is really small. I would still recommend trying the mochi donut though! There are a lot of flavors to choose from. Fat Straws offers a wide selection of drinks with boba (they call them bubbles), different types of jelly, or nothing at all. There's two sizes you can get: 16oz or 24oz in teas, slushes, frappes, and even shakes. No matter which drink you end up chosing, you're not going to be spending too much as the prices are real low. I would definitely recommend the Taro or Honeydew Milk if you're wanting to try something different. They have awesome original milk tea as well for those not feeling adventurous. My personal favorite is the Vietnamese Frappe. If you order the boba or jelly they will give you a lot. Try the mango jelly if you haven't already! This location is a bit cramped and it's usually busy so be prepared to take your drink on the go. With all these froyo places sprouting up everywhere it's good to see that there are still a couple of boba places. In Fat Straws' case they are the best in DFW. FYI, Free WiFi :) read more

It's always weird having white people make you bubble tea. Not to be racist or anything but I am accustomed to having my bubble tea made by Asians since...it's an Asian drink. Haha, but it doesn't make a difference. We in amurica. I like the Jasmine Tea here. It's nice and refreshing. The Thai Tea gets watered down way too quickly...I don't know if it's because they put way too much ice or what but after 2 minutes of having my drink it tastes like Thai Tea flavored water. Taro slush is good, though. The "bubbles" (boba, tapioca, pearls, whatever you call them) are consistently soft and chewy. This place is always infested with high school kids. read more

Some of the best bubble tea I have had in a long time. I stopped by with a small group last week for a quick pick me up. I ordered their Thai Iced Tea with bubbles, which was amazing. The tea was so creamy and sweet (but not overwhelmingly so). And the bubbles were the best part! Incredibly soft, some of the best I have had in quite a while. Even though it was crowded, the service was pretty quick. We got our tea in just a few short minutes. The interior is a little small and there isn't much space to sit down. Since we were taking our tea to go anyway, we didn't notice much of a problem with this. Loved the tea and will be back soon! read more

I haven't been to this place in a LONG TIME. And when I say LONG I mean, I forgot how the inside even looked. I was thirsty and my other favorite bubble tea place closed early. First off, parking here is a nightmare always busy. But it's a little strip mall with food everywhere (good place to hang out) I got good parking tho front row lol, good timing. The place was PACKED inside & out with high school kids in groups. It was so packed one kid stepped on my foot (I was wearing flip flops) without even acknowledging me. It was so packed I wasnt sure what to get so I played it safe. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS? I like sweet drinks. The staff was nice. There was a group of boy who claimed their order was wrong and they accommodated all them with no questions. The cashier guy was cute but he seemed a little agitated (I was too - TOO packed with loud teens). Fat Straws serves the best bubbletea in Plano. I love the Thai tea milkshake, although the "classic," normal pearl milk tea is fine too. I've sampled their Vietnamese coffee, banana milk (pretty much a simple banana milkshake), mango slush, and many other drinks as well. Every drink I've had was solid, and the tapioca balls are always just right. Be warned, however, that they do not have the full array of milk tea drinks you might expect from a more traditional Taiwanese bubbletea shop like Tapioca House, Boba Latte, or Champion Snack. Unfortunately, Fat Straws is not a particularly great place to hang out. Ye olde Escapé off Coit and Park had established itself as THE place to simply grab a tea and sit down comfortably, even in large groups, and even offering teas that are not as good as Fat Straws'. But unless Fat Straws moves or makes some big changes, it won't ever be able to establish itself as that. Seating inside is extremely limited, and the store's acoustics are just too noisy. It's always loud inside, even when there are only a few people sitting down. Don't expect to have the space or atmosphere for getting work done here. However, sitting outside can be quite nice when the weather is good. It's especially great at night on a dry, warm, summer evening in Plano. Accordingly, competition is fierce for the limited outdoor spots, probably except when it's blazing hot during the summer daytime. tl;dr: If you just want to grab a drink and go, Fat Straws is probably perfect for you. Still, if you like more particular milk tea flavors, Fat Straws might not be the best place. If you're looking for a place to sit down, Fat Straws might be okay if it's not crowded. It's still loud though. Your best bet with Fat Straws is to pick up a nice drink on a warm summer evening with the sun already down and just sit outside. Too bad it closes at ten. read more

This is a staple snack place of West Plano. If you've never been to Fat Straws, do you really live on the West Side? I always get the tea of the day as it's cheaper and usually pretty good. You can ask for half sugar, half bubbles, half ice, honey and a bunch of other things to customize your drink. My complaints are that their tea is pretty pricey compared to other bubble tea shops in the area, and they don't have a reward program for frequent customers. But if you're willing to pay $3-5 for a cup of bubble tea, this place is definitely good. Update- they have started a reward program! If you frequent this shop, definitely become a member. I tried out Fat Straws the other daily primarily because of the good reviews I saw on Yelp. I'd never had bubble tea and was looking for a good first experience. The main problem with bubble tea shops is that you have to know what you're doing when you go into the shop. After looking at the shop's menu online, I looked up yelp reviews to get some idea of how to order a drink and how to know what I would and wouldn't like. There still weren't instructions on yelp, so I decided to order what others had mentioned tasted good and avoid drinks that were listed as too sweet. My fellow yelpers were right - the choconana with bubbles was delicious and a good first experience. For those who are like me and have no idea what to do when they walk into a bubble tea shop: 1. Pick a tea or smoothie combination that sounds yummy. 2. Decide if you do or don't want "bubbles" (large tapioca pearls) or "jelly" (small gelatin shapes) in your tea. 3. If you do want bubbles or jelly, you can also tell them how much you'd like (more or less). The average amount is about 1/4 of your drink - while drinking, that feels like an awful lot. 4. Wait for your drink to be prepared. 5. Drink carefully - you don't want to choke on a bubble! read more

Fat Straws is the yardstick by which I measure all other bubble teas. Big menu with all the typical bubble drinks (e.g. pearl milk tea) as well as a spate of more creative ones, especially around the holidays. This was where I first had a wonderful, fresh cranberry smoothie with pearls; I never quite forgot it for a couple of years, even after leaving the Dallas area. Recently I found a bubble tea place in my new home town that made me a similar drink, though it wasn't quite as good as Fat Straws' version. There is a drink for everyone here: tea, smoothies, slushes, juice and coffee drinks, with and without pearls. It really doesn't get any better. Try something today. read more

Fat Straws' boba is excellent! Chewy and just the right amount of sweetness from the syrup to pair well with your tea. I enjoy that they have different daily teas that you can try when you go to one of the locations in the metroplex; it definitely helps me pick out what to try if I'm feeling like something new. The variety of teas at Fat Straws is also great; you'll definitely be able to find something you like. My friend recommended this place while I was in town and we decided to come here. The interior is cute and clean, but small. There is limited seating. Service was friendly and easy. Just order at the counter and they'll make your drink. MANGO PEACH- mangos and peaches This drink was overly sweet. It didn't taste like it was all fruit. It tasted like artificial flavoring was added to it. I love peaches, but it just tasted strange. STRAWBERRY BANANA- strawberries and banana This drink was tart. There was just too much strawberries and they weren't sweet. It was more of a slushie than a smoothie. There wasn't enough bananas to thicken it up. It's more of a place where you pick up the drinks and leave. Service: They were nice to us, and friendly when we walked in. There was diversity in their employment (another good sign) as you typically see Asians making Asian drinks. Drinks: The drink was alright, I really enjoy the boba though. it's a nice subtle sweet. Whereas most boba places; you can't really taste the boba, but here its a nice sweet to suck on. I would recommend the Jasmine Milk tea, or the Taro milk tea. There was a discussion in one of my discord servers about Fat Straws. When I came across this one while in Plano, I had to stop. The staff was so helpful and patient with me as this was my first visit and experience with both bubble tea and mochi donuts. I explained that I do not like overly sweet drinks and wasn't sure what to order. Per one of the recommendations, I went with the milk tea with tapioca boba. Delicious!! Coconut milk was also recommended and I will try it next time. I LOVE donuts and wasn't sure if I would care for the mochi donuts as much. But I bought each flavor of the mochi donuts to try with the family and coworkers. The favorites were coffee, chocolate, fruity pebbles, and, to my surprise, my favorite was black sesame. I almost didn't get one of the black sesame and sure glad I did. To be honest, none of the donuts were a disappointment. They were chewy and sweet but not over sweet which I really enjoyed. (I felt less guilty trying them all). I found I like them better than traditional donuts. Not as heavy or sweet. I cannot wait to go back again. I've given this place too many tries and it has unfortunately never worked out. I've been to multiple locations as well and they are consistently inconsistently bad (Did that make sense?Let me explain). I've tried 3 different bubble teas. The first one I ever had was their original, also pre-made and who knows how long it had been sitting. On that day, the tea was dilute, the boba was overcooked and had absolutely no flavor. The next one I tried was their Darjeeling tea with boba, switching up the category. This time, the tea left a very dry, tea leaf like taste in your mouth. As for the boba, some were perfectly cooked, but then others were undercooked, amazingly. Finally, I got their honeydew milk tea with boba. This could've been the worst one yet, and I didn't even think it could get worse. I'm fine with a fake honeydew syrup, since I'd never had a real fruit honeydew milk tea before. However, this milk tea was EXTREMELY dense. It felt like I was drinking sugar, honeydew syrup, very little water, and no tea taste at all. Absolutely disgusting that I threw away most of it. I cannot even remember how the boba tasted because of how poorly this drink was pre-made. They have taken my money for the last time. Service was good. read more

So this morning we decided to finally try fat straws after weeks of pushing it off (ordered through Uber Eats). And today, I DO NOT regret the decision! My mango peach smoothie is freaking DELICIOUS. It tastes the way I had image it, but 10 times better that what I had previously (since I had the same smoothie from a different company when I lived in Houston). My boss loves her Moca Coffee.
