For Christ sakes, they have a seasonal pumpkin spice milk tea. #whitegirlfavorite Fat Straws brings back very fond memories from high school (10+ years ago). It used to be the only place in West Plano, but now there are so many boba places. But I still like really like Fat Straws and it appeals to both Asians and non-Asians. The milk teas are pretty good, as the tea is strong and the boba is chewy and above average. I'm a big fan of both the Jasmine Milk Tea and the Thai Milk Tea. There are tons of substitutes for the milk (Oat Milk, Almond Milk, other vegan/healthnut/white folk substitutes that I don't care for). I used to always get the mango slushie with mango jelly. It's pretty good although I don't believe they use real fruit. The mochi doughnuts are unique and pretty good, although somewhat expensive ($2.50 for a doughnut). I am a fan of the black sesame, cookies and cream, and fruity pebbles doughnuts. Stay away from the matcha - it lacks flavor. If you are in West Plano, this is the place to be. But if you want the gold standard of boba, go to Onezo on Park. Drive west down park for approximately 10 minutes, and right before you hit 121, it will be on your left. read more

While Fat Straws is neither my favorite boba shop or my go to, I do love coming here for their... mochi donuts!!! Thank you, Fat Straws, for bringing mochi donuts to Dallas. While it's only available on select days, I definitely recommend driving out for them (it's worth). If you go in the morning, they have more flavors but they start to run out the later it gets. I went around 7 PM on a Saturday night and was able to get a matcha, black sesame and a strawberry. The strawberry was just okay, but the black sesame and matcha were absolutely amazing!!! Korean food post krave bobaaaaa! Chose the Mango chamoy slush with tajin. Came with a Tamarindo Coated straw. Server was very nice and smiled a lot, offered to let me try the teas if I needed to before choosing. Didn't take him up on the offer since it was late. He asked if I liked spicy stuff and made my drink extra spicy which was nice. A bit of a sodium overdose so if you're prone to acid reflux I wouldn't suggest it. Fat Straws has some of the BEST MOCHI DONUTS I've had in my life (no kidding)! If you're an avid boba tea drinker, I would say skip their milktea selection (they're too watery and too sweet in my opinion). Do get their slushes tho! Those are realllyyyy good! By far the best boba tea in DFW. The boba are soft but don't fall apart. The consistency is perfect. The white peach is a great option - they freshly brew the tea so it's not from a powder like some places. The liquid jade tea is great too. Mochi donuts. Period. I wish I had a gotten a dozen! The donut was soft, airy, and chewy all the same time. My sister and I have both had the famous mochi donuts from NYC and we both agreed that this one was far more delicious. I also got the taro milk tea with boba and lychee. Some days I think it could be cooked a bit longer to achieve that really soft gummy texture, but it's really not that big of a deal. It was quite the struggle to spell my order out to the cashier. I ordered the matcha milk tea with grass jelly and oat milk substitute ($6.44 including add ons), but the lady kept on repeating if I wanted boba with my drink. It was a loud, busy place (social distancing neither enforced nor feasible) and we had masks on, but the only thing separating our faces was a clear divider, and I felt like I was practically yelling out my order. When I finally said thank you and left the register, my drink had already been made! There was definitely a solid matcha flavor in the drink, but the grass jelly was inconveniently cut in giant slabs, making it difficult to enjoy tea and jelly simultaneously. I had to actively cut all the jelly with my straw to be able to sip it. Overall with the unremarkable customer service and drinks, this place doesn't even make it in my top 10 places for bubble tea, but it was very busy when I was there, so they must be doing something right--maybe the boba. read more

This is probably my favorite bubble tea joint in Dallas---especially with the best "bubbles." Whenever I'm in the coffee mood, my favs are (if slush: viet frapp, if iced coffee: viet coffee, and if i'm in the mood for something sweeter: mocha frapp) WITH BUBBLES. Whenever I'm in the mood for fruity drinks: I love their peach and green apple slushies WITH BUBBLES. Been a loyal customer at Fat straws for 17 years now. We make the extra 15 minute drive because we have always appreciated the quality drinks and customer service. Recently, we noticed that they have been inconsistent with the amount of boba that they give. However, what's upsetting is that their one scoop of boba is very little. I can hand count the boba. Since they've been inconsistent/ not giving the amount of boba they used to just a couple of months ago, we left a comment on our online order saying "please give enough boba." The picture below is a side by side comparison of their one scoop. How does one have a semi- decent amount and the other doesn't? The cost of everything is going up and if we are going to be paying for boba, we would rather pay for consistent quality. OG boba!! been a customer here for over a decade and it never gets old. consistency and temperature of the drinks is always perfectly balanced, which i gotta appreciate because the wrong concentrations of any one ingredient can really throw things off. and although the menu may not state it explicitly, you can customize sugar and ice levels!! service is also excellent, with orders being ready in as short a time as a few seconds. within a mile radius of so many restaurants, fat straws is convenient to stop by after meals. its bustling location does sometimes make for crowded parking and seating, but lines move fast and people are in and out every few min. the amt of times i sit in vs. take to-go is probably 50/50. will be coming here till i die! read more

One thing that's awesome about this place is that you can actually try the mile tea before you buy it, which I'm so glad I did. We also got two mochi donuts/chewy puffs in the coffee and cookies n' cream flavors, and they were phenomenal and we keep coming back for them. I first tried Fat Straws a few years ago after hearing nothing but glowing reviews from friends. Truthfully I wasn't terribly impressed even back then. With so much competition for boba shops in DFW, I never felt the need to give it a second try until today. I got an ad for their current drink special: Tropical Pineapple and Blueberry Pomegranate tea for $1.99. Awesome! At that price how could I resist? I ended up ordering the Blueberry Pomegranate tea... Oh, boy. Let's just say it was bitterly disappointing. Emphasis on "bitterly". The tea was so bitter, I couldn't taste even a hint of fruit. Seriously, the "blueberry pomegranate" part of the drink was nonexistent. I hate wasting drinks, but after forcing myself to have a few sips this one is going straight to the trash. I did try their mochi donuts as well. The taste of these were much better overall! I do think they felt a little under baked, but since this is my first time trying mochi donuts I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that the texture is normal. Regarding COVID precautions in the store itself: to their credit, there are signs to stand six feet apart in line. There are also face shields between the cashier and the order area. Unfortunately, the place where you wait to pick up your order can get crowded fast. It's not a big area, so social distancing kind of falls apart when there's multiple customers waiting and they have to brush right past you to get their order. If you do plan on ordering here, you're much safer just calling and requesting curbside pickup. read more

I'm ashamed to admit that at first I did not care for the pearls, but that was not because of quality. I was a foolish high schooler who didn't know interesting texture when it entered my mouth. I got on the bubble tea train after living in China and now see the true value in tapioca. This place has been around for a very long time and the quality has not changed. I was pretty excited to try out Fat Straws because it wasn't a boba chain that I have been to. Hailing from DC/VA, where Kung Fu Tea has taken over (like many other cities), I was curious to see how Fat Straws held up. I figured I would order the "safe" choice, which is Taro milk tea with bubbles. I was kind of disappointed in the taste because it didn't taste like real taro and more on the artificial side. That is my number one boba tea turn-off, so I was a little bummed. I love their taro milk tea. it has some sweet flavor that I don't know how to describe - it's simply good. I didn't really like the original milk tea that much though. it was too bland. I like more deep flavor in my milk tea. my brother got the jasmine milk tea and that was good. I will probably get taro and jasmine next time!! Had the classic milk tea with boba. Possibly the worst bubble tea I've had in my life. The tea was quite watered down and had a weird chocolatey flavor. Couldn't really taste any real tea in the drink. The tapioca was pretty good, but not enough to redeem the drink. My wife had the taro milk tea and said it left a sour aftertaste. They remind you of a baby teether ring back in the early 90's because if the way they were shaped. But let me tell you, one bite and it nothing like them other than looks. Lol. These little glutinous balls connected together to form a ring is actually a good concept. They are a little chewy but not tough. A good chewy, like mochi.
