This is my go to to introduce people to boba for less "traditional" flavors, namely they have more smoothie and slush options than other places. Mochi donut heaven! If you have never indulged in a mochi donut, you are missing out one of life's greatest treasures. A mochi donut is a hybrid of a traditional American donut and Japanese mochi. It is slightly crispy on the outside and oh so chewy on the inside. The first time that my husband and I had a mochi donut was in Hawaii, and we were super impressed and surprised to find it here in Texas! We visited Fat Straws just because we were in the area and wanted to get some boba, not expecting to find mochi donuts. We didn't expect that it would taste as amazing as the ones that we had in Hawaii but were pleasantly surprised. Fat Straws was just as good, if not better! The price is also incredibly reasonable, at $2.50 a piece. My favorite is the matcha flavor. On this most recent visit, we also tried the king cake flavor that they had in honor of Mardi Gras. Not only was it beautiful and looked just like a king cake, the flavor was also on point-- oh chewy mochi king cake heaven! The boba here is also worthy of trying. It's pretty basic but the boba is a perfect chewy consistency and the prices are very reasonable for boba ($3.50-$4). If you're in the area, definitely give this place a try! read more

Hands down the best bubble tea joint in dfw. The first place around here that did not use nasty powders for their fruit smoothies and slushes. A nice little place for young people to hang out. If you like sitting outside, there are a couple of small round tables at the entrance. The interior is not big. So you see people just come by, order their drinks, and off they go. The decor is very simple with only a few medium-size pictures on the walls. As to their drinks, the menu is right above the cashier. There are five major categories: frappes/shakes, smoothies, slushes, teas, and milk tea infusions. I think the most popular category is the milk teas, especially for teenagers (and old people like me too). I've been here a few times. Today I ventured to try the tea of the day with boba of course, but with less sugar. It was passion fruit tea. It was just so-so. The tea taste was quite weak to me. I think it would be better to have more sugar when I think about it. But I did like the boba as always. I also tried the boba milk tea before. It was a bit plain and not as creamy compared to what I had at other places. They do have some seasonal drinks, like watermelon cooler. It looks very tasty in the promotional poster pasted on the window in the front. The serving staff at the counter are quite friendly and courteous. Look like they enjoy what they do. Went again today. It's been a long time since we went. I got a mocha frappe and she got a milk tea. Totally forgot how good fat straws is. We've been going to tapioca express (now out of business) across the street. Fat straws (FS) definitely is the best around relatively speaking in terms of price, service and taste. If you compare it to places outside Dallas, it's probably a different discussion. I still love the fun chalkboard that they leave up with the drink of the day. It gives FS the personal character. If you're curious the mocha frappe is like a frappacino with lots of chocolate syrup. It's pretty good if you like chocolate. SIDESTORY Oh and when i came on sunday an rather creepy old man stopped by with his dog. He talks rather loudly as the ladies at the counter greet him. He said he's just browsing. I have been going here since high school and it's always been my favorite boba place. The boba is always perfect! Soft and chewy and grabs the flavor perfectly. I always get the classic milk tea, but the flavor is always a hit or miss. Sometimes it's perfect and sometimes it tastes a little watered downed. But overall the drink, boba, and customer service is always on point. But be warned, the place is fairly small and does tend to get crowded. There are a few small tables really close to each other, so no room for privacy. Parking is pretty annoying as well. But the drinks are worth it! read more

I went here to pick up a dozen mochi donuts and a gallon of Thai Tea for a small get together that we had attended. The mochi donut flavors included blueberry, passionfruit, oreo, strawberry, chocolate, and fruity pebbles. With the gallon of thai tea came two big cups of boba as well as a bunch of FAT STRAWS for the boba. The mochi donuts are really good. They are unique in texture, as the outside has a very mild crisp but the inside has the chewy rice flour texture. It is so good! It wasn't available in the order that I had got from this location, but I've tried the matcha and black sesame flavors and those two are super delicious. Thai tea was really delicious as well. Not too strong, and not too sweet either! At $20 a gallon, this is such a good deal to have, especially to share at a get-together, or if you just want some milk tea at home. A gallon can easily provide 10 cups of tea (or more). The shop is located in the West side of Plano, somewhat near Willow Bend. The store is kind of small; when I visited (during COVID-19), only pick up is available but even then the space seems a little tight to hang out and have some treats. The staff is nice here. I did find it a little funny that there was inappropriate (i.e., age 18+) music playing in the background LOL. Not that it bothered me, but I wasn't expecting it from Fat Straws, which gives out a cute and bright brand feeling. I wish I can get behind the hype. It's a very cutely designed cafe, the service is genial, and the whole appeal is very "Gram-worthy," much like its next door neighbor, Wow Donuts. So I was expecting some fusion of flavor, and what I received was perfumed water. Guave is a pretty subtle flavor anyhow, but the ginger and lychee? I expected SOMEthing to shine... I might give them a pass since this was one of their more creative flavors (and therefore, not everyone will like it). But my boyfriend got a boba tea staple: mango green tea. And that too was pretty bland. Both of us hate wasting food, but we had to toss our drinks out because the taste of disappointment overcame our dedication to waste not, want not. All in all, high hopes were met with crushing letdown. Go to the Carrollton area for all of your boba tea needs (e.g: ShareTea, Gong Cha, Kung Fu Tea, etc). Loved this place! The staff was very friendly. They answered all the questions we had and even gave us some samples to try. I got the passion fruit smoothie and it was ok. It tasted really fruity and I just wasn't that big of a fan of the flavor. I also tried the strawberry banana smoothie which was really good.
