We indulged in the lemon poppy with a raspberry jam for one cake and chocolate with peanut butter frosting and strawberry for the second. The pricing was beyond reasonable. It's nice having a brick and mortar location to come get Fate Cake's cookies. When done to my personal likeness - EXTRA SOFT AND GOOEY*, it'll be nice to not have to drive all the way to Linworth for a sweet treat! *I should explain: I first stopped at HTH Market for Fate's cookies, as I saw on her IG she delivers there. My stop was not planned, but I was absolutely elated when I saw several of their cookes - soft and gooey, lined up on the side counter. They were so unbelievably soft, morsels of pure joy. Assuming that's the standard MO, I ordered some of her cookies for a pick-up date at the same farmers market. However, those cookies were not very gooey and soft, as my firsts. I was a bit bummed, but decided to not give up. Thus, this third FC encounter came to be. I haven't tried Marie's cupcakes, cakes or cheesecakes (freaking CCCs keep drawing me in - hook, line and sinker), but if their anything like her cookies, I don't doubt the quality. This is my little sister's experience with Fate Cakes: Let me start off by saying that I am a sweets connoisseur and I have visited many, many bakeries across the country on my frequent travels. I had yet to walk into a bakery and leave without making a single purchase, until today! Last wkend was my first (and last) time at Fate Cakes. Like anyone on a first time visit to a new establishment I had a few questions before deciding to place an order with Fate Cakes for my daughter's birthday. I asked the lady at the counter if they made birthday cakes and she told me, "NO! We do have cookies decorated like birthday cakes and there are a couple of toppers for the cookies." I thought this was an extremely strange response especially considering that there were cakes on display in the shop. I asked about the flavor of the slices of cake clearly on display in the case and her response was just dry and off-putting. I get that people have bad days so I just told myself that's the reason for the horrible customer service, dry responses and lies about if they make birthday cakes. I still decided to try a chocolate chip cookie and a brookie. After handing the lady my money, I asked her if she is the owner and she told me "NO" in a nasty tone. Then I asked myself; why would I want to spend my money, no matter the amount, in an establishment that treats people like this?! I told her that I decided that I didn't want anything and would like a refund. She gave me back my money and I left. I pulled Fate Cakes information back up and I called to see if the owner was available. The same lady that seemed like she was irritated by my presence in the shop was the one who answered the phone. She stated the owner wasn't available and that she was the "manager" in that same nasty tone she had while I was inquiring about the birthday cakes. At this point I had had enough of her nasty attitude and negative tone so I told her that I felt her customer service was unpleasant and that she wasn't at all helpful. Her disposition was still repulsive. I read the reviews listed here so I don't understand why I didn't receive the same 5 star service as everyone else. I've tried telling myself that it isn't because of my ethnicity but at this point, I'm actually sure that my race played a major part in my horrific experience at Fate Cakes. If not, then I wonder; what's the reason behind such terrible treatment when all I did was walk into a bakery and inquire about purchasing products?! I have NEVER had an experience remotely close to this and I frequently visit a lot of bakeries all over the country. These days businesses are not getting as much revenue due to the pandemic so one would think that top-notch customer service would be at the forefront of every business to make sure they are still making profits during these trying times, but apparently Fate Cakes didn't get that memo. I will not tolerate being disrespected and mistreated simply because of the color of my skin, especially not in the current state of this world. read more

Fate Cakes had an incredibly quick turnaround. They would be able to deliver the next day, so that was perfect. (Right before Valentine's Day, no less! Seriously impressive) Plus, I saw they had a deal on the website where you'd get free shipping ordering within a certain timeframe, so I went for it! Upon checkout, the free shipping deal didn't go through. I thought that was strange since I was definitely within the timeframe. So, I gave them a call (with no expectations - I was totally fine having to pay shipping anyways... at the very least, I just wanted to let them know that the deal wasn't working so they could take it down). The woman I spoke with was great. I showed her where the deal was written on the website, and she explained to me it was actually supposed to be taken off the website before that day, as the deal had expired. Poor customer service. Subpar cake. We went into Fate cakes to place an order a week before we needed the cake. We hadn't been here before and didn't have an image ready to hand over to order the cake right then. The owner was nice and explained for us to text all of the info to her business manager and to send them the image we wanted printed on the cake and we would get an invoice. Owner made it clear to pay it straight away since time was short. I texted info that day. We didn't get an invoice. So we called to check in and was told we'd get an invoice. Another day passed and we still didn't. So called again, and left a message that went unreturned. Then, went to store in person and finally had success placing the order. So all of this would have been mostly made up for in a quality product. But, unfortunately, that was not the case. While the cake was pretty and visually what we wanted, the cake itself was dry and the icing was dense and sugary--not the rich buttercream we were expecting. We've had better cakes from grocery stores. And we didn't have to work so hard to get them! read more

This is the second time I've ordered from Fate Cakes. I ordered a sample box for Easter dinner and everything was delicious, so when I needed birthday cupcakes I immediately thought of Fate Cakes. I ordered a dozen birthday cupcakes on Sunday May 3rd for the following Saturday May 9th. Due to weather the birthday celebration was moved to Thursday May 7th. Fate Cakes was easily able to move the pickup date up from Saturday May 9th to Wednesday May 6th as they're closed on Thursdays. I appreciated how easy and quickly Fate Cakes was able to change the pickup date. Pick up was easy at HTH Farmers Market. I appreciated the personal handwritten thank you note that came with the cupcakes. The cupcakes were amazing, and the birthday girl loved them. Shocking and disappointing. It was difficult to get a custom birthday cake ordered. Communication was difficult, the invoice had to be requested multiple times. Finally, ordered a custom birthday cake for $75... looked nice but tasted so so disappointing, like a Walmart cake or a gas station donut ... no one ate it.
