They wanted to charge me $1200 as a fee to commandeer the buildings freight elevator because I needed carpeting. The carpeting to carpet my office cost $400. I found gray fox flooring and told them my problem in hopes that they would have a delivery service that would be able to bypass my landlord. They came up with a better idea. Carpet tiles that come in a box and not a big roll! Now they were able to bring the carpeting up without taking command of the elevator, and I was able to bypass my landlords crooked scheme to bilk me out of the elevator fee! Beware. I hired Purewal Contractors to do a complete renovation of my bathroom. I hired them back…read morein March, with a promise to start and complete the entire bathroom by the end of April 2022. They did not "finish" their work until the end of June 2022- a full TWO MONTHS later. Additionally they made a HUGE MISTAKE on the installation of my toilet and never offered to fix it. Let me explain from the very beginning.... At first, Singh and his brother were very nice. Everything was "no problem, no problem." They communicated clearly, sent texts back and forth to discuss material choices, and started their work in early April like they said. As time went on, they started to show up less and less. Singh started to ignore my messages and phone calls, and was very hard to get in touch with. The NUMBER ONE job of a contractor is to take measurements and make sure everything is done to a high standard. As a customer, you hire them to do the work you don't understand or can't do yourself. So, imagine my surprise when I got my first look at my new bathroom and the toilet was THE WRONG SIZE. They NEVER MEASURED the rough-in before installing the toilet. My bathroom has a 14 inch rough-in. But instead, they ordered a 12 inch rough-in toilet, brought it to my apartment, and STILL INSTALLED IT. The toilet has a huge gap behind the tank and the wall. After seeing it, I explained my frustration. As a contractor, you are supposed to take measurements and install the correct equipment. Not only did they not measure, they brought the wrong toilet, most likely noticed it was the wrong rough-in size, and STILL INSTALLED IT. Who does that? Then they told me they would not replace the toilet or order the correct one. I was SO ANGRY. I spent over $10,000 dollars on this bathroom, and now he put me in a position to have to buy another toilet, and hire someone ELSE to fix his mistake. They also ignored my phone calls and texts for over a week. I eventually had to have my husband call. I thought maybe they would respond quicker to a man. They called back right away. (hmmmm......) Additionally, the person who installed my shower doors made a big measurement mistake and drilled holes into my new tiles in the wrong place. They are "patched," but those kind of mistakes are unacceptable. He also ordered the wrong shower doors at first, even though I clearly send him the correct ones. So many delays after delays. They will claim there were supply issues, but never once were my materials "out of stock," "backordered," or "delayed." They just say that to buy time. So, beware. I believe they will tell you everything is perfect up front, but then they take on too many projects and spread themselves too thin. The work is not done on time, and is very careless. They also left my apartment very dirty, and didn't remove all their debris. I had to take out my old medicine cabinet myself and spent 3 days cleaning up their dust. Overall, the biggest complaint is the toilet and the time frame. If they would have replaced it and admitted they made a mistake, I would have been much happier. And if they would have completed their work on time- or within reason- I would have been happier. I do like the medicine cabinet and vanity area. That part was done well. Just beware. That's all.

Five Star Floors earn their name…read more They removed old flooring and installed new pre-finished bamboo flooring + molding in my entire condo over the course of two and a half days. They made sure I got the molding style I wanted, and they even patched up some unlevel concrete subfloor before install. On top of that, they really saved the day when the glue I purchased from Lowe's turned out to be expired -- they were quick to notify me and subsequently remedy the situation by recommending an alternative. They brought the new glue to the site the very next day, preventing the project from any delay. All the employees were very nice, did great quality work, and were always prompt (shoutout to Alberto and team). The owner Erick was also very friendly and helpful in answering all my questions throughout the entire process. Communicative, fast, good quality, and cost effective. Can't ask for much more.

Al (owner and worker) scraped the walls and plastered the entire place except for the bathroom and kitchen which were in good shape. He painted the entire apartment. He gutted and installed a new shower stall and re did the internet cable so it looked great. He did other stuff as well but those were the major pieces. My wife and I live 250 miles away in Washington DC so hiring a contractor for our project in Brooklyn was intimidating as many of the quotes we got were from contractors who were hostile or hard to work with. When we found Al we knew we hit gold. He did an amazing job on every front. And when he made a mistake, he took care of it at his cost. This only happened a couple of times when his guy broke the shower handle and they took off the picture hook molding by mistake. All gave us regular updates and moved the project along quickly. I can't say enough good about his attention to detail and his desire to look out for our well being. I am sad that he works so far from our home as I would hire him in a heart beat to do all the work we need on our 100 year old house. Often he would suggest better ways to get something done. Such as the plastering. They gave several coats of plaster and used a mesh so that these walls would last another 30 years if not more. He redid the shower stall when it did not look exactly perfect. He got the job done on time and within budget and with renovation there are always surprises. He just took care of them and was so friendly and communicative. He rocks! He lives his word and is totally trustworthy. I told Al my wife and I would give him references if he ever wanted them from us. When we first started to talk to him he gave me four folks to call and all had great things to say about him. He is not the cheapest and he is not the most expensive, he charges a fair price that made me feel great about paying him. Your friends may tell you to pay less or that it should not take so long. And I can tell you from experience the end result is the only metric for success in a project where you are taking apart a 70-80 year old apartment and bringing it up to speed. For example when they dug out the old shower he found leaky pipes. He could have ignored it and just did what we paid him for, but for another 600 dollars (which our building will pay for) he made sure it was fixed and saved us thousands of dollars down the road when another contractor/plumber would have to dig it all up and do it again. He always consulted with our super to make sure everything was done to the buildings specification. Al was at the job site doing the work most of the time. He is a skilled worker and not just a manager.
