The Pad Thai had no flavor and the Khao Soi tasted like it was from a can. Very disappointed experience and too pricey.

This was a delicious discovery yesterday, Thai fusion that really landed and delivered a great dinner for our first yellow-phase date night! We arrived at the restaurant, that provided limited and spaced-out dine-in, which was only one of a number of COVID-19 precautions we observed. We are grateful for those precautions, and the opportunity to dine-in and feel a little reminder of life prior to the pandemic. The food was brought to us, picnic-style, prepared for takeaway, but we plated up our chicken lettuce wraps, spring rolls, wontons, and dumplings and enjoyed the most chill dinner we recall this year. Our first time ordering, the food was terribly disappointing. I had Chix Pad Thai. The noodles were gummy, no flavor & overcooked or maybe had been sitting all day. The chicken was thin and tasteless. The Vegetable Fried Rice was mushy and greasy and it seemed like it too had been cooked this morning!! My husband also ordered the grilled steak. We had brunch at Fav Bistro and absolutely loved it! Located in Holladay, the restaurant is beautiful inside. The service is attentive and they make you feel so welcome. We were even lucky enough to meet the owners, Anny and Jeff! Hearing their philosophies on second chances, supporting growth of local businesses (competition is good!!) and promoting healthy living from their purified water on up to encouraging fermented foods and kombucha gave us huge amounts of respect for them. Not knowing what to expect at brunch at a Thai restaurant I was initially relieved to see the menu features American style entree's as well as many Asian influenced selections. Fortunately for us we were encouraged to try some of the Asian breakfasts and they were AMAZING! We started with their Thai Omelet. It is so so yummy, the batter is made from egg and coconut milk. It was filled with chicken and served with raw veggies on the side for that added crunch. There is THE MOST delicious sauce to pour over the top as well. We also shared the Joke, which is rice porridge and a hugely popular breakfast food in Asia. Not only was it so delicious and flavorful, it was also somehow comforting, if that makes sense. I can see why it's such a loved morning tradition. It has chicken, egg, ginger, green onion, carrot and cilantro. From the American side of the menu we shared the very unique Breakfast Salad. I never would have thought of having a salad for breakfast but it works! It has a mixed greens base topped with carrots, hash browns, bacon, tomato, poached egg and drizzled with a delicious dressing. The Gypsy Toast was not only beautiful but SO DELICIOUS! It's stuffed with mascarpone cream cheese and topped with yummy berries. The Thai Fried Egg was a surprise hit - underneath the egg we found a huge pile of rice and veggies!! We're talking broccoli, zucchini, carrots, mushrooms and red onions - a ton of them!! My new favorite thing ever is the Kow Gunn Mai and Ginger Sauce - chicken and the best garlic rice ever with an amazing sauce for the top. Holy. Yum. We can't wait to get back to try more deliciousness!! (I have my eyes on the Thai Coconut Pancakes with Chai butter ). Visiting our daughter in the area she suggested this restaurant for lunch . I'm no expert on Thai dishes but we all enjoyed our selections and the service was great considering we arrived right after they opened . Enjoyed the feel of the inside of the restaurant and the food was authentic and delicious. I had the Pad Thai but I had no use for the egg blanket over it but the flavors were my reward . Terrible service! I went for lunch. The food was delivered and no one ever returned to my table until I had to repeatedly try to wave down a server ( any server!) for a take home container. Food is decent, served hot, but the service was so bad that I will not return. They were not very busy (4 tables, 2 servers). read more

I love this place. I've lived just up the street for over a year and I'm so disappointed in myself that I've just barely discovered this gem! I believe that a Thai restaurant can be fairly judged on the quality of their yellow curry. A simple dish, but when it is done right it's a party for the taste buds! The yellow curry is to die for, and I hate to admit that I even ordered it for take out back to back days. I ate it on a Tuesday and loved it SO much I couldn't stop thinking about it. So I got more for dinner Wednesday! Great portion sizes, plenty to share with two people (or just one if you're a curry fiend like me!) Owner and chef Annie is awesome. Went on a busy Saturday night without reservations. Took about 15 minutes to get a table but it was well worth it. Ordered Pineapple curry, pad thai, and cashew stir fry. Everything was delicious. Nice size portions so we can have some leftovers at lunch today. Friendly, nice homemade touches like sauces, cookies, and teas that you can take home with you if you check out at the counter. We love Thai food, what we got tonight was pretty much inedible. Pad Thai with chicken, chicken was so dry even my dog wouldn't eat it. The noodles were overcooked and a stuck together heap. Chicken panang ordered one step above mild was so spicy my husband couldn't take more than a few bites, he normally orders spicy but this was over the top. If you are looking for a fun, unique brunch experience, look no further. Arrived on a whim as per my usual and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Thai fried egg brunch which was different and pretty delicious. They had a delicious semi-spicy sauce on the side (which I honestly could have used more of) which made the entire meal go from meh, to great. The fried egg had vegetables scrambled inside and sat on top of a bed of rice. I never thought of rice as a brunch food, but somehow it seemed to work. The seating and arrangement inside was comfortable, and service was friendly, but a bit slow considering not many customers were there. If you want slightly Americanized Thai food and overpriced small portions, go for it. A family favorite, it's a very well known restaurant in Holladay within the Salt Lake Vally it's 3.4 miles if you live in Millcreek area and we highly recommend that you try it! Try their red curry and unique pad Thai it's blanketed with egg over the top locking in amazing flavor! (It's not too sweet like other Thai restaurants prepare it dripping in sweet sauce, I don't like that version) Any dish can be made with Tofu, it is perfectly cooked and delicious! I love the tender chicken they give generous amount in each of their meals, we enjoy their fresh rice paper spring rolls they can be made with either avocado or shrimp! Fav bistro was absolutely delicious! Loved the service and how quickly our food was brought out. Thanks for the great recommendations, I can't wait to go back. Update: Came in for a quick lunch, big mistake. 15 minutes for a table another 10 for a server to greet us. The server wasn't pleasant to speak to. She seemed a little pre occupied and when I asked if she was alright, she said, it's just hot in here. It's quite humid inside. Sad that my experience has changed. Sadly overpriced and bland, flavorless food. We came for breakfast, myself and my boyfriend after church, and had their hash entrees. I had the garden hash which has half cooked veggies and cabbage, with soggy potato shavings. Or waitress came over four times correcting our order and stated my hash did in fact not come with eggs after previously coming back to our table asking how I would like my single egg cooked. She said they charged a dollar for each egg so I asked for one. Once the food came out I had three eggs on my plate which they charged an extra $9 for. That's $3 for each egg that I did not ask for. Service was poor and the food was even more disappointing. I do not recommend this place, at least for breakfast or lunch. read more

Quirky is probably an apt way to describe FAV Bistro. That can be both a good and a bad thing, depending on how you look at it. FAV Bistro is located in the newer building that used to house Cafe Normandie on Murray-Holladay Road. Owned by Annie Sooksri, who also runs Chabaar Beyond Thai, the Tea Rose Diner and the Siam Noodle Bar, FAV Bistro seems to be a sort of mishmash of American/Thai/pan-Asian dishes. While it can be charming to have an eclectic menu, restaurants that don't have a solid sense of gastronomic identity often manifest this with inferior food. I was very pleasantly surprised by the excellent execution of several dishes I ordered. The Hainan chicken and rice was surprisingly tender and delicious, as was the rice soup (jook). Service is a mess. There is poor coordination between the servers and most of the staff is inexperienced and somewhat clumsy in their customer service. My food was excruciatingly slow to arrive, then came all at once, without explanation or apology. There is a sizeable private parking lot behind the restaurant. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. While I would advise against bringing a large party to dine at FAV Bistro, it merits a visit, if you have the patience to wait for your food. read more

This review is based solely on dessert. LIKES: A group of us came here after having dinner at another restaurant. They have a unique selection of desserts, some of which look pretty amazing. I enjoyed the passion fruit sugar cookie. It had a nice texture and the icing tasted great. Our favorite thing was the cinnamon roll. Nuke it for 45 seconds and it is delectable! The woman at the counter was very friendly as was our waitress who saw what I ordered and complimented me on it. We then had a great conversation about Thailand. DISLIKES: The passion fruit sugar cookie just tasted like a standard sugar cookie. I would've loved more passion fruit flavor, especially if it was slightly tart.
