Valentines dinner never felt so special. For an occasional like this, my date and I ordered more dishes than normal and some were a first for us. First, was the Poor Man's Noodle. What an incredible dish. The slight spice and abundant flavor in every bite makes me want to go back just for that. The Panang Curry was tasty and well done but it did have a slightly overpowering taste - we deemed this to be from the fish sauce. Still recommend, but not quite as smooth as other Panang Curry we have frequented. The Khao Ka Moo and Yum Woon Sen provided some variety in the typical Thai Dishes and they were phenomenal as I attempted to broaden my Thai cuisine palate. New location. First time visiting this one, seems that they changed their menu and have added on new dishes. Garlic butter shrimp was delicious. It was crispy and in the bowl there is some sauce that compliments the shrimp. I got the Kao soi short beef ribs as my entree. It was different from the chicken one I had a few years ago but still delicious. It's very creamy and full of different flavors. My sister and her family had just finished up snow boarding and skiing at Brighton, so it was the perfect place to meet them, before all the restaurants started closing. There were lots of options I hadn't heard of before so having someone explain them was great. The meats in all our dishes are incredibly tender. Their ramen is very flavorful and very fresh. Highly recommend it. We shared two dishes and both were excellent. The price is on the high side but not so much so that it isn't worth coming. Wow. By far some of the best flavor depth, quality, value of any Thai restaurant on either coast. I was in town on a work trip, and went twice!!! Service was quick and attentive both nights I went. They remembered my order too. The owner was very sweet, and came out to say hello the second time. The Kao Soi short rib is truly spectacular. Best I have ever had. A level 4 spice was perfect. Kin SEN it was inSANE how your food took me by surprise on my recent visit to SLC for a bach party (don't ask why we chose SLC lol). My impression on the lack of diversity in Utah had me questioning if any authentic Asian restaurants existed in this city. And not 10 minutes from our Airbnb around the Mt Olympus area was this hidden gem. The first item that caught my eye was the Boat Noodles, which even in Houston is a rare option I've only seen available at maybe 2 restaurants. And then oxtail was an option for protein??? We picked up the huge order to go since we had just flown in that night and they close at 9pm. The first taste of the noodles (after a quick reheating) had me thinking this is probably better than what I've had in Houston. But then a bite into one of the two large pieces of oxtail and we had a clear winner. The oxtail was stewed perfectly tender, and paired so well with the flavorful broth. When food makes you salivate as you type up a review about it, it deserves a full 5 stars. During this day, I was really craving hainan chicken. After some research, I discovered there is a Thai version of hainan chicken. It is called Khao Man Kai. I drove an hour to Kin Sen to try it. Though very very similar to hainan chicken, I did not taste as much ginger/garlic infused flavors in the rice and chicken. However, it was still pretty good. What I really liked was the yum woon sen. It was my first time trying it and now I'm a fan. Now, I will always try to look for it at any Thai restaurant I go to. The pad thai was fine. I did NOT like the papaya salad. It was WWWAAAAYYY too sweet. This salad alone dinged a star off of my review. It did not taste like a traditional papaya salad at all. Practically just sugar and water was used as the dressing. The roti dessert was fine, but I can tell they used old ice cream. From the scoop of ice cream I was given, I could clearly see freeze burn marks all on it. The meal kicked off on a low note with some of the worst spicy dumplings I've ever had in my life. They are served in a shallow bowl submerged in a cold and spicy broth. I got the Thai boat noodles with brisket and my hubby got the Khao so i. The bowls were huge and full of noodles, tender meat, veggies and thick, flavorful broth. Ask for some spices to kick up the heat. The brisket in my soup was so tender and flavorful, literally melting in my mouth. The broth was dark and heady and full of flavor and spice.
