I have mixed feelings about Aranya Thai. My friends and I thought the food was Justin a little above average and on the pricey side. The papaya salad alone was $15 and we all were a bit underwhelmed by it. However, I liked my Chicken Pad Thai and the chicken was very well cooked. The service wasn't anything to write home about. The place itself was nice and clean. For the most part, food was underwhelming. Curry puffs didn't have much flavor but with the cucumber pickles they gave, it was delicious. Chicken fried rice was terrible. The chicken was overcooked, absolutely dry and flavorless. As if they just over boiled it with no seasonings and mixed it in with the rice after. We took one bite of that chicken and literally left the rest. We jst ate the rice part. The beef garlic stir fry was alright, beef was tender but the sauce was too watery. There was stil enough flavor to finish the meal so its not as bad as the chicken fried rice. And their peanut sauce taste like ones they sell in the bottle. Charged $3 for it and other than tasting it, didn't touch the rest. All in all, the quality of the chicken meat is what really ruined it for us. This was a gathering of a few friends and they wanted something good. Based on reviews I suggested this restaurant. So glad I did. Everyone raved about their food and said this was a great place. I had the Spicy Basil (Pad Gra Prow) with beef as my protein choice. Oh my goodness! One bite and my eyes went wide with astonishment with the flavor! Same with my wife when she tasted it. I don't remember what everyone else ordered, of course Pad Thai was in there and my friend sitting across from me devoured it. If you are traveling east on 800 South, look for it on the right hand side. The building is right up against 800 South and the sign on the building is easy to miss. There are spaces for about three cars to park on the road. If you can see a Taco Time sign, you can turn right there into the parking lot and it isn't just for Taco Time but you can park there for Aranya. The wife is the cook, the husband the host. We had a table that included the Thai pillowed benches and they were comfortable. Absolutely will return here to try her other dishes. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Solid 4 1/2 stars Located off of 800 S and right before you hit State Street. Aranya is inside of an old bones building that may look a bit sketchy from the outside, but transforms into a quaint and comfortable dining experience once you step through the front door. Parking is available on the street or in back of the building (4 spots). We were acknowledged and motioned to sit where we would like. The gentleman who helped us was patient and answered all our questions. We ordered Crispy Spring Rolls, Tom Yum Soup, Kao Soi, Crab Fried Rice, and Mango Sticky Rice. The food came out fairly quickly. The spring rolls were piping hot and fried perfectly. The accompanying sauce was delicious. I sampled the Tom Yum Soup which indeed had a sweet and sour flavor and my friend enjoyed it very much. My Kao Soi was a curry noodle dish with two drumsticks, a crispy noodle accompaniment, and topped with pickled cabbage, onion, and shallots. With a lime and cilantro garnish. The curry flavor in this dish bursts of freshness and depth. The chicken was fall off the bone tender. I was expecting the Crab Fried Rice to have imitation crab. To my delight there was real crab throughout the dish. Topped with an airy fried egg this dish was easily a favorite, but my Kao Soi will have me returning to try other items on the menu. read more

Best Thai in downtown SLC hands down. You can taste the difference in quality and freshness and I love that they don't skimp on quality. The first thing I noticed was that their rice was actually good rice, not the cheap grainy stuff you usually get at most Thai places. The rice was perfectly cooked, high quality grain which may seem like a small detail but it makes a huge difference. We for cream cheese wontons, the massyman and pad see ew, all of which were very well done, perfect spice level for medium, and incredibly flavorful. We also bought some of their house chili oil because it's a home made recipe and they sell it if you want it! My husband and I were both very satisfied and impressed and will certainly be coming back whenever we're downtown and in the mood for Thai. read more

Being from Seattle--where we have some of the best Thai food--I can confidently say that Aranya Thai holds its own! Comfortable place to enjoy a quiet and delicious meal. I loved the soft seating area with pillows. The service was attentive but also didn't hover, which I appreciated. Drunken noodles, pineapple curry, chicken satay, and curry puffs all had outstanding flavors. The noodles were on "wetter" side and the veggies were slightly crisp, which I enjoyed. The curry puff outside was perfectly flaky. I got a 3/5 spice level, which wasn't too spicy and I could likely do 4/5. What I didn't like- both the pineapple curry and drunken noodles itemized their ingredients on the menu, and onions were omitted. Great, we thought- as haters of onions. However, the dishes included tons of onions which we needed to pick out. If the menu listed ingredients correctly, this could have been avoided. Got 3 dishes. Would rate 4.5 if I could. All three had great flavors and the vegetables were cooked to give the best contrast in texture. Maybe she didn't believe a couple southeastern kids living in Utah could handle spicy. She did she come back next time and ask for whatever spice level we want so game on. Pad Kee Mao was as good as any I've had in Southern California. Noodles were cooked perfectly and the shrimp wasn't over cooked like most places. As mentioned, vegetables were cooked just right so it gave a great contrast to the noodles and shrimp. Water Fall Steak (Num Nua Tok) had great flavors as well. I would've been great if it was spicier as said before. Wish I had asked for some lime to give it a little extra pop but it went great with the sticky rice. Would definitely recommend this. It's basically the equivalent to "Crying Tiger Beef" at other places. Panang Curry (Chicken) was probably the #3 dish out of the bunch. Again, wish it was spicier but the right flavors were there. However that wet chili went well with it. As far as drinks goes, the Thai Iced Tea was not too sweet! Friend got the Thai Coffee Iced Tea and said it was good as well. I ordered the Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) via Doordash. There was a great promo special so I decided to give them a try. So glad I did because it was delicious! It is hard to see in the photo, but there was a decent amount of shrimp! They are under all the noodles. I hate when I choose shrimp as the main protein and I get two pieces.
