When I travel through Salt Lake I actually schedule my flight so I can eat at Sara Thai Kitchen. Ohhhh mama. The Tom Yum is to die for. Deep flavor and just enough heat to make me get a good wave of heat from the tip of my toes to the top of my lip. Yup. And the presentation is lovely - a small chaffing dish with a fire under it so it's always bubbling hot. Also, do not pass up the lollipop chicken. Every time I'm in Salt Lake City I visit Sara Thai. Not sure why I didn't leave a review in the past. Very friendly staff greater me and always make me feel like I'm a regular even though I'm only in town once a year. It is a small shop that is well lite. I was here for dinner and ordered the chicken satay to start and Pad se eww for main course. The satay order is 4 large pieces of chicken covered in peanut sauce. I have been peeping out all the Chinese and Vietnamese joints while I'm SLC. Today, we decided to go Thai. This joint is just down the road from our Airbnb which is so nice! With such a high rating, we had to come check it out. The venue is bright and beautifully decorated. I love the splashes of Thailand through their decor. For a smaller venue, they had a good amount of seating. And it was so vibrant from the big windows. I love bright spaces. There was only one server working today so it did take a minute for her to get to us. Of course I did check out the online menu to see that they had. We started off with the crab dumplings and fried tofu. For lunch I got Rad Na with tofu. The crab dumplings and fried tofu came out first. They were both fried to perfection. The crab dumplings were creamy and savory in the middle with the perfect crunchy exterior. I did dip it in the same sauce for the fried tofu. I love the sweet and savory combo. The fried tofu was crispy on the outside and so soft in the middle. Little triangles of goodness! They were both prepared perfectly! My Rad Na looked fantastic! You can see how fresh the gai lan is. There was a good amount of tofu. It came out pipping hot! I can tell it came straight from the wok! The gravy was savory. I added some chili oil to it and it was perfection! The noodles had a slight char to them and you can taste the smokiness from the char. Every bite of this dish was so tasty! As full as I was, I finished my plate. I can see why they have such a high ranking. Service wasn't all the best but man did they push out good food! From start to finish, everything was great! I'm happy I got to check this joint out during my stay here. I don't know if I'll be back anytime soon but if I do visit SLC again, it will be a must to have a meal here! read more

I had a great dinner here last night with a couple friends. We came at 6:30pm and it wasn't very busy. We shared the Papaya Salad, Khao Soi Chicken, Massaman Curry, Pad Kee Mao with Chicken and Mango Sticky Rice. Everything was delicious and so flavorful, but my favorites were definitely the Massaman Curry and Khao Soi. I would have liked a bit more kick to the Papaya Salad. We arrived to a full house on a Friday night, so we got seated at a high top table in the corner. We were immediately greeted with smiles and warmth and the space is nice and bright! Service was extremely friendly albeit a bit slow, which is understandable considering how packed they were. We started off with Thai iced tea and crab dumplings - which were stuffed with deliciousness and came equipped with a tangy dipping sauce. The outside was flaky and had a nice crunch to it. Next, we ordered the green curry and shrimp Tom Kha. The green curry was my favorite dish of the evening, with an excellent spice to it. The Tom Kha didn't come with shrimp even though I payed extra for it. Tom Kha is my dying meal so I usually have high expectations, and would rate this one as enjoyable, yet lacking in its usual potent flavor. Sara Thai took a reservation for our large party of 16 on a Friday night with about 90 minutes notice before arrival. When we arrived, they really rolled out the red carpet for our group. They essentially reconfigured a section of the restaurant so we could sit together. The ordering process was super easy, the food came out promptly, and everything tasted fresh, authentic, and delicious. Love that this is a Thai owned small business with a Thai mom cooking in the kitchen. Honestly, only being in town for a day or two, we weren't expecting authentic Thai food in the middle of Salt Lake City. The food, atmosphere, and service were A+. read more

My review is more a 4.5 but since I can't give half stars, I put 5! My reasoning is because the kal soh was my husband's favorite in all of Utah so far! It was absolutely delicious and the meat was so well done the fried rice we had was also perfected wok hey and flavor. My point five comes from the dry meats: the pork in our fried rice and the beef in our curry. The green curry was kind of bland and too runny and overwhelmed by vegetables that were too largely inserted. The chicken dish we had was perfection- tender chicken and my kids all loved the sauce that came with it. And the pad Thai was different than what we're used to but still so good- I love that it had a lot of bean sprouts and the tofu was crisp to perfection. Service was excellent and friendly and dining room was spacious and comfortable while being clean. The shell pendant lights are interesting, but the cushioned seating was plenty comfortable though ambiance wise it's not got the feel of too fancy or over the top. Parts of our experience were good. Our server was responsive and handled an uncomfortable moment politely. The food, for most of our table, was fine. One of our party of 4 enjoyed her yellow curry, the rest thought the food was fine. HOWEVER- One person in our party found a hair in their food, and unfortunately it was the individual who gets the most sick by hair. Our server came over promptly and removed the dish, no fuss, handled well. Then the chef came out to our table. She explained that when a complaint like this comes in, the kitchen searches for the hair themselves to determine whether customers are "being truthful or just trying to get free food." She said they hadn't found any hair, implying, clearly, that we had fabricated the complaint. After we affirmed that there was, in fact, a hair, she went on to say that no one in their kitchen had hair that matched the description, and that it wasn't possible. Luckily, they happened to accuse the nicest person in the party, who did stick to his guns but did not escalate things. A few things worth noting: - No one at our table asked for free food. - The dish wasn't eaten. The person who received it was nauseated by what they'd found and couldn't continue eating. - When we insisted the hair was there, the chef did not back down. She maintained his position. - He declined to have the dish remade, because at that point, after being accused of lying, the person was too put off to eat. The item was taken off the bill. But a discount doesn't undo being called a liar in public at your own dinner table by the person running the kitchen (coincidentally, during a special occasion). Hair in food happens. It's gross, but it's a known risk in any restaurant. But calling customers liars as a policy - because this was presented to us as standard practice - and treating customers as suspects when they report it. That's poor management, business, customer service, etc in any industry and it reflects how this restaurant views the people it serves. In a city with so many dining options, we won't be back for sure. If you go there and you find food, make sure you take a photo or pull the hair out to show them. read more
