My family and I have been customers of Fazio's for more than 35 years and I can honestly say I'll never return after our dinner tonight because of management. Our waiter wasn't the problem, the food wasn't an issue, but the lady manager was a huge problem. We had a party of 10, made reservations at 530 and were seated shortly after arriving. Our waiter did a good job with our needs considering it was prom night so they were busy, let me stress that I've been on this restaurant when it was much more busy with a large party and didn't have this kind of issue. Around 7pm we finished with dessert, waiter went to get the checks...7:42p he came back with our checks, we all immediately gave him our payments, at 8pm my friends with a child with them went to ask what was taking so long. After that the manager lady came and lectured my whole table like we were bad little children for asking why it was taking so long. She didn't apologize in the least and blamed us for paying with cards instead of combining our checks into one. My family are patient, kind people and were treated very badly by a place in which we have always been loyal. I won't return and I doubt my family will either. Don't waste your time, pick a restaurant that will actually value you as a customer. read more

I've never been to Fazios, but the other 3 people had. They told me it would be a nice dinner. We had Reservations were at 7pm. We did have to wait about 15 minutes though, as they were packed and it was A Friday night. Very nice place to enjoy fine dinning. First you get pimiento cheese and crackers and some butter, a piece of cantaloupe and Everything we ordered was great. We had a verity of food but the lasagne I ordered with my shrimp was kind of a disappointment. I thought It would be layered with a bunch of cheese and it was Like eating a noodle with meat sauce. But the taste was outstanding. Salads were good, but ask for dressing on the side. Mine had way To much!!! They also bring out a big loaf of garlic bread that was great! Our server was Dustin and he was excellent! If you go, ask for him. He will no disappoint you! This is a great place to go, enjoy company with and there was no pressure To rush. Fazio's is charging for water, which should be free. I've noticed extra charges on thee bill, not including the "tip" that they like to include, which is usually around $10. Don't pay attention to all the nay-sayers. They are obviously out of towners with a stuck up palate. I got married at Fazios 33 years ago. To this day, their food and atmosphere is still the best and most friendly one could ever want. Sure, the steaks and pasta is great, but their pizza pies are totally unique and something to die for. Where is Gordon Ramsey? My husband and I relocated from Philadelphia, PA which is known for its amazing Italian restaurants in South Philadelphia such as Ralph's.This past weekend, after waiting to dine for about two years, we entered the front door of Fazio's eagerly anticipating the superior dining experience that quite a few locals have lauded it to be... and sadly, it was not even close. The waiting area was crowded with people angling to be away from the cheap swinging front door; vying to capture the attention of the hostess. The restaurant was founded around 1934. We suspect that the decor was updated in the 1970s and has not been renovated-forty + years later. The paneling is dated and the decor is anything but Italian in nature. Having the privilege of spending time in Rome and Florence, Italy, I found that true Italian decor does not resemble the decor found at Fazio's. The drop ceiling tiles were either dirty (like the ceiling vents), water-stained, or were brand new which was in stark contrast to the old ceiling tile. The waiter did not bring us Italian bread which is usually the norm at most; if not at all Italian restaurants; rather, we had to request bread be brought to us. The butter came in hard packets; not in a nice serving dish at room temperature. The cheese whatever-it-was paste(?) that we suspected one can apply to bread was presented in a cheap plastic dish and suspiciously resembled Cheese Whiz. We both ordered New England Clam Chowder which we love. The sous chef or the head chef had to be unaware that the top to the back pepper dispenser was off as both our soup and our main entrees were heavily laden with pepper. I mentioned this to our waiter, but he offered no remedy nor regret. We both ordered veal and my husband suspected that his was frozen and then warmed up via microwave. My entree was a tad crunchy; both nowhere near past veal dishes we have consumed out of state and out of the country. Our meal was on par with the Olive Garden yet the service at the Olive Garden was not anywhere as rushed or distant as it is at Fazio's. At least the staff at most Olive Gardens engage you. I think that the present owners foolishly depend upon the past reputation of Fazio's and choose to ignore the areas where it is crying for attention. The income that the restaurant must bring in should easily cover the cost of remodeling the decor and the menu. Although many locals affirm a loyalty to Fazio's due to its past reputation, their claims that it is a fantastic dining experience is indicative that either there are no other Italian restaurants in Charleston; that they have never dined outside of Charleston; or even outside of the state. Fazio's can be great, but right now, it could greatly benefit by either having Gordon Ramsey coming in or the owners visit fine Italian eating establishments such as Ralph's and invest some cash in this local venue that is treasured by many. To those who left positive reviews on yelp and/or Facebook obviously have never visited a REAL Italian restaurant or they are paid employees of Fazio's. I would like them to visit Ralph's (or a fine dining establishment like it) and then respond to my review and to the other negative reviews which are numerous. read more

We hosted our rehearsal dinner at Fazios on March 9, 2018. With a large group, over 50 people, we had a difficult time finding a place in Charleston that could accommodate such a large group, while offering an intimate/private space to allow for speeches and toasts. My husband and I were also planning this event from afar, as we currently live in DC. We toured the space while visiting family for Christmas, and quickly realized it was the best fit for our size of group. Marsha was wonderful to work with - she was very responsive, and helpful, especially since we were planning it from afar. On the night of the rehearsal dinner, everyone was extremely impressed with the professionalism and attentiveness of the entire wait staff. Again, we were a large group - so we were expecting some delays in getting our courses, but that was not the case. Marsha ensured she had enough wait staff to more than accommodate us, which in return allowed for impeccable service. I truly can't express how amazed the entire group was with the service, but also the food! Ohhh the food - every dish was delicious and our guests were raving it for the entire weekend. The private room was SO perfect for our dinner - it provided the intimacy and privacy we wanted, and allowed for a most memorable dinner filled with lots of laughs, great speeches, and delicious food and drink. read more

Don't waste your money on this restaurant! My in-laws, 2 daughters and I went to dinner here recently, and let's just say I was completely unimpressed. While the food was good, the service was severely lacking. When we first entered the restraint the hostess was carrying on a conversation with a friend, which she continued to carry on while completely ignoring us. After five minutes of waiting while the hostess continued to talk to her friend a server finally came and sat us. They sat the five of us at a four top table, so I was crowded on one side of the table with one of my daughters who is in a highchair, so there was no room! The service started out decent, our server was for a while fairly attentive. However, when the Governor arrived our service went from decent to nonexistent. We did not see our server for over a half an hour, and had to flag her down to get the check. While my father-in-law was waiting on the check my mother-in-law and I took the children out to the waiting area so as not to disturb other diners. The hostess made some very rude, and snide comments, both out loud, and whispered to coworkers. Because my daughter had "touched" an end table that was in the lobby, and had climbed onto a chair to sit on it. I can no believe how completely offensive this woman was! Also later when my mother-in-law called the restaurant to talk to the lady about her behavior she told my mother-in-law that her mother had taught her not to touch things. Now my daughter is only 18 months old, and as such is still prone to bumping into things. I saw her bump into the table, quit on accident, which caused some beaded fringe on a lamp on the table to sway. It didn't do any damage to the table or the lamp. When she did reach out to touch it, I told her not to touch, so my daughter proceeded to go over to a chair and climb on it. She then sat down on the chair the proper way once she was up. The lady at the front made a comment about all the adults allowing her to climb on the furniture...if you don't want people sitting on the chairs, then don't have them in the lobby! After my mother-in-law confronted her she gave a VERY insincere apology and hung up on her! That lady should be fired strait away for treating a guest in such a manor! If Fazios wishes to stay in business they should do something about their costumer service, because I can't see to many people continuing to go to that restaurant with such poor service. I WOULD NOT recommend this establishment to anyone, ever, in fact my recommendation is to stay as far away as possible! I don't think that anyone should be insulted by the employees of any restaurant, and Fazios is not exempt from that! read more

We ate here last night for the first time in several years. The food was OK, nothing specific to complain about, but the prices are ridiculous. $23 for about a cup and a half of pasta and 4 thumb sized pieces of grilled chicken. Come on. My son got a small pizza, 8 inches, it was $15.00 and looked like a frozen pizza. He also had 2 glasses of milk, at $3.50 a pop. Yes, $7.00 FOR MILK. The most ridiculous thing is the added on tip. We had 13 people total, divided into 5 checks, we were all charged $15.99 -$22.99 on top of our meal for a tip. Don't get me wrong, our server was good, and I know we had a decent size party, but over $100 for a tip for an hour long meal with one visit after dinner was served to check on refills? I think that's a bit much. Our bill alone was $89.56 for 2 plates of pasta, a small pizza and our drinks (iced teas and milk). I'm sorry, but that is absurd in Charleston, WV, especially when the food is no more special than The Olive Garden. Go if you want to pay double the worth of a dinner, or if you just want to name drop that you went to Fazios, but I won't be back. We could eat an OK pasta dinner somewhere else for half the price. read more

We were passing through and found the meal adequate. What was interesting was we when we sat down we were brought a basket of bread and two bottles of water--neither of which we asked for. When the check came we'd been charged for both. When questioned the waiter responded he'd brought a larger basket of bread than normal. DON'T GO THERE IF YOU'RE NOT WHITE. we were the only non white people, the only people with no waiter, no water, and no nothing after 30 minutes of waiting!!!!! people who were seated after us had their orders in. What has happened to Fazio's. It was a family favorite, but not anymore. We have friends who drove a couple of hours from their home and chose to eat at Fazio's because we had bragged on it through the years. Not a pretty sight! Poor service---tasteless food and an overall thumbs down! My family and I agree we ate there after our friends and I was in agreement with them! I used to like Fazio's when Mrs. Fazio and her daughter ran it. Prices were reasonable and the food was good. Now the food is seriously over priced, It is very noisy there, and the food is not nearly as good as it used to be. Food was great totally offended by owner. Went with a party of 35 yes I said 35 they put us In a room. Then told us to share a meal when it specifically says 2.50 on the menus the up charge for us would be 14.95. I asked specifically would the 2 kids with me be charged the up charge to share a pizza. The answer was yes . The owner said they were a family business and they had to make money for all there employees since we had a room that usually cost 200 and didn't pay for it. Funny we called 3 weeks ago wanting to pay for the room and it was booked that is where they seated us. As small business owner myself I try and do all I can for my customers. I have been dining at Fazio's for about 30 years now and I must say it has grown on me. When I first ate there, I couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about, as the locals raved about it and I considered the Italian dishes rather pedestrian. However, it is good and, if nothing else, consistent. The blackened filet is the best steak in Charleston, bar none - I've tried 'em all. The Italian fare is tasty, if not outstanding, and it is always well prepared. Service is generally excellent, and I like take-out too - they package it well. I should note that the homemade italian sausage (patties) appetizer is excellent and is not to be missed. Although it is the best Italian in Charleston, Fazio's simply doesn't compare to Muriel's in Fairmont or Rocco's in Ceredo - not in the same league. read more

Since I hadn't been to Charleston for 7 years, I was especially excited to meet my family at Fazio's. The food was great, as always, but the service was disappointing. First, the waiter forgot to ask my mother what she wanted to drink. Second, he forgot to bring my cousin his beer. Third, I was literally still eating off my plate when he asked if I was done and tried to take it from me. Similarly, he removed the bread basket from the table before asking if we were done. In general, the waiter was less than friendly and quite frankly a bit rude and rushed is through dinner. Since we were a party of 7, gratuity was already included. Otherwise, I would have tipped less for the service difficulties we experienced. Unfortunately, I won't be so excited to come back to Fazio's the next time I visit. read more

Tried this place last night after hearing so many good things about it. I had the pesto pasta with chicken... It was good, but not great. My fiancé had the spaghetti and meatballs. It wasn't anything worth paying $16 for... It lacked spice and good flavor. We were disappointed with our service, and our meal was overpriced for what quality we had. The salad that came with our food was great though! Overall, I know this is a staple in Charleston, but we were disappointed. I was looking for something more authentic and this place just didn't hit the mark. read more

The food is good, but the service we had tonight was absolutely terrible. Our waiter was a bit of a jerk, and aside from taking our order and bringing us our food, we only saw him once during the meal. We probably sat there for 15 or 20 minutes until we were finally saw him and we were able to ask for the check and a to-go box. Even then, when he came back, all he had was the box and no check. We lived in Charleston for 30 years but moved to NC over a year ago. We miss the excellent food at Fazio's. Our favorite dish had become Nell's Special, with eggplant, red pepper strips, mushrooms, penne pasta, and delicious meat sauce, topped with mozzarella. The steaks and seafood also were superb. I thought Fazio's was a great Italian restaurant. Growing up in northern West Virginia, I have experienced a great deal of amazing Italian food (from my family as well as in restaurants), and I feel that Fazio's is one of the best around. It is authentic Italian cuisine. I had the veal parmigiana and it was potentially the best I've had. I went with a large group and several members of our party got Filet Mignon, and claimed it to be some of the best they'd ever had. I would definitely recommend Fazio's to anyone in Charleston looking for great food! read more
