We rented the Olympic Studio 1 The water pool, and the experience was a bit disappointing this time. The water was supposed to be warmed to around 89-90°F, but it was only in the 60s -- the model was very cold, and it definitely affected the photo shoot. I would recommend two days prior if you booked this studio to confirm that the water is actually being heated up because I would imagine it takes at least 24 hours. The staff has always been very nice, and helpful and I've have used different studios mostly without any issues. However, this was the first time there was no one on-site to assist or troubleshoot. During my scout visit the day before, I was told someone would be available, but unfortunately, there wasn't. We likely wouldn't have had enough time to heat the water even if we'd known how to operate the system ourselves. read more

I had a horrible experience at the Brooklyn location of Scott Street. I wasn't gonna rent the studio today here but they had a new set up and I wanted to check it out. I have emailed management about the issue and they were able to help me with today's shoot. You're still a great place for a quick shoot or no budget productions. I am not a fan of the no contact/no employee system. They just got going up. That could lead for a lot of theft and damage stuff without being fixed. But definitely need to have someone on staff at all times. That aside, I love the upgrades with this particular location. Astoria has always been my favorite place to shoot. read more

Not sure why some of the recent reviews have negative experiences but four star rating.. The studio went from decent to worse. The self automating business structure they implemented just made the studio experience go extremely south. The equipment are at best beat up but working to basically nonfunctional on the other end. Softboxes and parabolic are in horrible conditions. The stages DEFINITELY do NOT reflect the studio photo gallery. A good example is Olympic 2 and 3 if you have a chance to scout it. Look at the photo they have uploaded for the stage and see it in person. It's night and day. There's no one on site so if you have a problem, you are gonna be troubleshooting with a representative on the phone. I honestly don't see how this company is still standing read more

These studios can be easy to use but equipment is sometimes broken or not working the way it should & whoever handles bookings is very very rude. I don't mind paying extra for paper or booking an extra hour but the person who does the phone calls & texting is an asshole. Check peerspace for better business in the area for your shoots. read more

The studio is always top tier. But today I had a bad experience with a folding table in the studio. The black folding table held my camera and MacBook. The black folding table collapsed and my camera fell off and hit the ground. Luckily I caught my MacBook before it hit the ground. The table legs had tape on them which means it was broken and someone did a poor job trying to repair it. The table being in a studio is very irresponsible and almost cost me thousands of dollars. read more

I've always used and loved this studio. Things changed during the pandemic, and not really for the better. They've gone to a self-access model, and I think the place is little the poorer for it. Whereas everything always worked perfectly in the past, I had two extension cords that didn't work in my studio and, though I requested and got immediate help via, text, I can't help thinking things were slightly better maintained before. The biggest problem, however, is that the studio was easily in the high 90's as all the air was off when we arrived, and their system barely made a dent in the heat in the two hours we shot. It's bad enough to be that uncomfortable, but it is unforgivable to rent a photo studio where the talent is dripping in sweat for the whole shoots. I'd really like to get compensated for the time it's going to take in post to handle the soaking clothing and droplets of face sweat. It's totally unacceptable. read more

UPDATE: We enjoyed our first experience so much, we booked another photo session for a fashion editorial a few days ago. When we arrived there were a few hiccups that needed immediate attention; thankfully, they were resolved before our shoot began! The site manager authorized a full refund, which we were not expecting, but eternally grateful for it! And we truly appreciated their utmost attention to our needs! Travis who was onsite, did a stellar job keeping us up to date on the progress of resolving said issues! Needless to say, we will continue to use FD Photo Studio for many of our upcoming editorial shoots in 2022 and beyond! Today I had a photoshoot at Loft 4 in LA. Things started to go wrong for me beginning with the model going to the Hill studio. But have no fear because Aaron was here ! The studio that I used comes across as beat up and because of this, overpriced. The most of the chairs and the cabinets were scuffed up. Then there was a tall wooden stool that is on the verge of collapsing and is very unsafe to use. Also the strobes worked but the remotes made them fire sporadically. So I decided to use my own system because of this. Lastly the trash was not emptied after the previous user so I found it partially filled. The directions were very clear, and the cost was up to par. I wish there was a dressing room for us to have used since there were several different types of photos that we took, but it worked out. The receptionist, Maria, at Art 1 LA location was very attentive! We had to change the date of our video shoot several times due to COVID-19 "safer at home" order. After the government moved to phased 2 reopening, I was relieved that we could finalize the date, BUT, riots were happening in Downtown area and could still get cancelled last minute. After triple confirmations, Maria was so kind and quick in all the email responses, it did ease my mind a lot since there were crew members involved. The Art1 location is spacious and the crew could set up easily. Plenty of outlets, clean environment, and most importantly bathroom down the hall. There are roof top parking lots near the studio, and free parking on certain street area on Sundays. I would definitely do business with FDstudio again! Although I loved seeing the end product of my photoshoots, I was utterly upset with the treatment and conditions of FD Photo Studio. I have done multiple photoshoots at their Studio B (at their 8th location) and Art 4 ( at their Santee Street location). When booking the studios, you are told online that they have proper air conditioning and studio lighting equipment in each studio. My models and I were disappointed at every occasion we visited. Upon arrival, there is literally no way to get into the buildings unless you relentlessly call for someone to come downstairs and open the door that's on the first floor. If it's your first time here, good luck getting in because basically nobody answers the phones. After my first photoshoot, I specifically called after booking and prior to showing up to the studios to make sure air conditioning was on and the studio was insulated because models will be wearing certain clothing and showing up with makeup on, yet none of that happened on any occasion. During my first shoot at Studio B, once I was heading out, the worker asked if I needed the remote for the lights that were in the studio... which was completely inconsiderate and pointless because I was already leaving. The second time I booked Studio B, we had an issue with the insulation once again and I had asked the employees for assistance with the air conditioning and they provided a small portable one which didn't even keep the whole studio cold or in suitable working condition. I am honestly disappointed with this studio yet I returned a third time as well to Studio B and it was okay to work in but only the A/C working did not do the job. During my visit to their Santee location, I had issues getting into the building because their phone system outside was not connecting to the employee inside who needed to buzz us in, and after multiple phone calls to their phone number, I finally got buzzed in. Once we got to the studio, there was still the prior party inside cleaning and going into my booking time. I honestly do not mind giving a minute or two away understandably, BUT when I hold shoots with FD Photo studio, the employees stop in multiple times and harass us to wrap things up. Why others don't get the same treatment... I don't know. I was back at FD Studios last weekend and out of nowhere, loud music started blaring in Studio B without warning and we were unable to turn it off or change it. This particularly stood out to me because I was never given the option to play my own music during a shoot. In regards to why I finally am speaking out about this issue is because of the treatment I've received from their management and employees literally today. I booked a studio with them for an upcoming weekend and I was sent an email saying that I needed to pay a 'refundable $525 deposit' to the studio to book with them because my clients did not wear masks in hallways. First of all, if masks being worn were an issue, their irresponsible employees could have reminded us to wear one as a courtesy but nobody said anything to us. Aside from this, I never make a mess in any studios that I book, I never have damaged any of their property, or have given anyone reason to feel uneasy toward trusting me or my clients on their property. I take their course of action as a major sign of disrespect and that is why I decided to pinpoint every reason why I will NOT be giving them my business any longer, and I will be taking back my recommendations that I had given to my friends from booking here and referring them elsewhere. Aside from asking for this ridiculus 'deposit', they mentioned in their email that I would have to pay a higher rate for the booking as opposed to the regular weekend rate that I have been paying all along. All in all, I will gladly take my clients elseware and give my money and time to businesses that appreciate me, and not one that are trying to hurt me. I have said this in every review I have ever written and I will say it here as well, customer service/treatment is something I value much higher than anything and at this studio, I did not get what I expected. I went to a rooftop event back in June, and to my luck, I won 4 free studio hours! Although I've been to FD Studios several times, This session was my first solo photography session. I gathered my sister and nephew, my cousin and her son for some "Mommy and me" Christmas photos in their Art 2 room. Upon arrival, I was greeted and checked in. Jason escorted us to the room, and told me to give him a shout if needed. The room was clean, and ready to be worked in! I shot my session, placed everything back where I found it, and simply checked out! I love the staff at FD Studios, they're friendly and helpful.
