I'm an amateur social media associate (think iPhone camera, a small hand held tripod and a few good apps) that had to shoot a promotional video for my company's new product. The room is located in Downtown Los Angeles not too far from the fashion district or where the Convention Center/Staple Center lies. For the price of renting the room, I'm very happy with my experience. All the answers I needed was either on their website (like EVERY question) or in their e-mail. The owner of the room was also communicative and responsive, checking to make sure I was still confirmed for my reservation and answering a small questions. The room itself is what it is, a room with back drops, lighting, a small vanity with sink, a small mini fridge, etc. I brought what I needed and didn't need much. The map they provided of the room is exact to the actual layout, so I appreciate that. Don't expect a HUGE production space. It's in the name: The Room Downtown. It's perfect for more smaller shoots/videos and not for huge professional productions. Parking-wise, there was a $6.75 all day parking lot (went on a Saturday afternoon) that was a bit tight on space. There's also parking meters. There was a few places to eat around the area. I definitely would go here again if I had to shoot any more videos. read more

If you are filming here be warned about the sound. You can hear the traffic, and the acoustics reverb so even with a boom mic; it's a little difficult. It's not impossible, just make sure you bring your A game. For a photo shoot... the place is great, and the price is amazing. They have lights you can use ... etc. Annoying: We were on our last shot and all of a sudden there's some man's voice on the speaker warning you that you have 15 minutes left so you have to reshoot and then again at 10 minutes.... That was frustrating considering they take time to talk to you before during your rental time explaining some stuff and didn't mention the warning. There should be a bonus 15 minutes for any new room renters to cover the talking. But again ... 25 bucks; that's a bargain. C'est la vie. read more

We had an amazing experience. Big windows, great sealing lights! Plus we have been nicely surprised how much this room turns to be bigger than we thought. Due to its long shape, we could do full body without making the model stand too close to the green screen. Matt's small studio room has great lighting, has an easy to find location and very reasonably priced. Matt is great to work with! He helps his models feel relaxed and if necessary gives them tips for posing, movement and expression. Scheduling is also quick and easy online and saves time after the shoot as payment is automatically charged the night before. Please do not waste your time or money. Awful customer service. I work with and book studios all throughout LA, and never dealt with anyone more unprofessional. Upon booking them their calendar was extremely empty. As in there were several available slots day of the booking I chose, and about two weeks out. Morning of my booking, I had my makeup artist cancel on me last minute, and I was left scrambling trying to find another makeup artist. Is this their fault no. However, upon me letting them know the bad position I was in, and rechecking their calendar (still fully empty) I asked if I could reschedule for later in the day, they said no. I am also an entrepreneur, and recognize and respect there are cancellation policies, however I also know how to be compassionate, understanding and have great customer service skills. They had no respectful answer as to why they wouldn't choose to accommodate me and something out of my control, if the time and space was available. I completely would've understood if there were no other time slots and it was an inconvenience to them, but again it would've been so easy for them to just reschedule me. No, instead they not only didnt let me reschedule but they kept my money. It's not worth booking. There are several other studios in LA, that will accommodate you and appreciate your service. read more

Small but efficient. I shot here on a rainy day, and I was pleasantly surprised. This is just a simple, well appointed room, and if you know what you're doing, you can get decent to great results. It's not one of those places where the natural light or the room itself makes it super easy to get great photos. Speaking as a photographer, don't plan on using anything beyond a 50mm as you won't really have the space. Booking is easy and my experience with this owner's responsiveness was great. read more

This place is fantastic. It was literally exactly what I needed last friday when I had to film the most important audition of my career so far. I have no camera experience and every time I've tried to film myself it just looks off and is always dark or something. I was a little nervous about using a service like this but when I got there Matt was so patient and knowledgable and knew exactly what to say to put me at ease and get some seriously great footage. My agent was like, wow, what did you do?!? hahah! I think I'll come back here for headshot as I saw all the backgrounds they have. This place is just great. Easy and organized booking! I booked a two hour shoot for the first time and had forgotten to check in via text to Matt. Great cheap location for a photoshoot for small business or simple headshots. They have everything you need to light your subject as well as Black and White backdrops you can use at an additional price. Overall, you get what you pay for, doesn't have all the glitz and glam but it's a simple set up to get some quick photos in a central location. read more

Wonderful communication from Matthew, very professional and great to work with.

I wanted a small and more intimate studio as well as one convenient to downtown LA and this studio was it. Scheduling was easy online and Matt took my calls to answer my questions. However, I could have gotten all my answers by a more careful reading of the information available online. Matt was quite eager to get feedback on my experience The studio is equipped with an inexpensive lighting equipment; strobe, speedlight, and 3 continuous lights (fluorescent-like tubes about 3 ft long). I used the tubes for several two hour shoots. Although they were a little clumsy to use I found them quite quite useful. You can make the room quite dark with the heavy shades pulled down over the two large windows. (Unfortunately, you can't open the windows.) I used the studio during one of LA's few cold spells so the room was chilly and the concrete floor was cold. (But I made my model more comfortable by spreading my own backdrop on the floor and adding a yoga mat for her to stand or lay on.) I used and appreciated the versatile backdrop system. I will use this studio again. The parking lot next door has two entrances and rates: one for $20 all day and the other $5 (for 15 minutes written in small print)... but for $5 mire you can park much longer on the roof. However, the roof is only accessible up a very narrow and steep multi-level ramp. The first time I used this option the attendant was quite busy and didn't volunteer to drive my SUV up the ramp. It was a bit scary. Worse, after I parked on the roof there was no elevator and I couldn't use the stairs because I had a wagon full of photographic equipment. Going down the steep narrow ramp with the wagon surging forward was dangerous. Several times I had to steer the wagon into the wall to keep it from running over me or running away from me. Arriving at the bottom, the attendant apologized for not having me unload my stuff at the bottom and driving my vehicle up the ramp himself. The second time I used this studio and this parking lot I made sure the attendant dus it right. (There are several other parking lots within a block. read more
