The store has been here near 40 years. My friend Dena who lives across the street from Bob's...I mean Jd's always calls it Bob's, so be patient with me. This store first came to my attention when it was in the news a lot, after the Price-rite chain came to town. But that is ancient history now. Anyway, after a short visit with my friend, I hobbled across the street to...Jd's. Yes, very friendly people there, and helpful. There was not a large selection of fresh produce, but what there was looked fresh and the prices were very compatible with my shopping experiences earlier this week. I bought a beautiful apple for 54¢. Dena always brags on their meats. There were some very nice cuts of beef, some sausages, some pork chops, wings, also some salads. I'm not a big beef eater, so I asked if they had ground pork. The woman said we can grind it for you. I said I'd like a pound. It was nicely wrapped in white butcher paper. The freezer section had a lot of frozen meats, things that had been prepared into patties and meatballs, all ready to take home to your freezer. On my way to the checkout, I spied a bag of dry large lima beans, so I grabbed that, too. I've been making a lot of soups lately. On the downside, the store is small and parking is street only. The upside there is that they do deliver, citywide, I think. And there is a website. The big plus for me was the ground pork I bought there. When I got home, I unwrapped it in order to divide into two half-pound containers for freezing. Beautiful. I have never seen such lean and good looking ground pork. At $3.82 for my package, it might have been a few cents more than the fatty ground pork I used to buy. I'll definitely go back to Jd's for that. The thick Sicilian crust had the perfect chew: light and airy inside with a crisp, golden bottom. Every bite was loaded with the bold salty toppings, bringing a savory, slight spice/pickled kick that paired perfectly with the oils and melted cheese. The toppings reached edge to edge, creating a pizza that was hearty, flavorful, and impossible to put down. Please pencil in a visit to The Deli on a Wednesday to grab one of their pizzas. I do recommend ordering ahead to claim your dough. This version reads like a Yelp review and really highlights the texture and flavor of a loaded Sicilian pie.

This market in Clarence is probably my favorite of all. They have awesome prepared foods, including the delectable LT's Subs. They carry Charlie The Butcher sliced roast beef in the deli. Pitas from Pete's Lebanese Bakery. Sweet Jenny's ice cream pints. Ithaca Milk & amazing cream top yogurt. Talk about some hometown favorites! When they have sales, they have REALLY good prices. When things aren't on sale, they tend to be a bit more pricey than one particular grocery competitor. But investigate because you can find some great deals. I found managers special pork Italian sausage for less than half the original price. As an Italian, I stocked up! Bake it for 30 minutes, turning half way through, at 375. Freeze and save for your next pot of sauce! So good! I love Dash's!!
