People who know me, know that I'm not big on food truck events. Don't like the crowds, don't like standing in line, don't like all the pets that are brought along. But Big Blue BBQ advertised Octopus Tacos ... so I had to try. It's only a short walk from my home so I trekked over there just as they opened ... I was the first customer. Ordered my Octo-Tacos and then had to wait ... apparently the food inspector got there just as I placed my order and several employees had to vacate the truck so she could do her job. This is a good thing! And, apparently they passed and I got my tacos. Now, they were very tasty. The first taco was a little chewy (probably because it may have overcooked while everyone was outside the truck). The second one was more tender and really, really good. So if you're interested and tacos and octopus ... this is a good choice. Then I tried some quick made ice cream that I ate on my way home. Also very tasty... Nice Cream ... made to order. read more

By far one of my favorite summer festivals in Reno! There are always a ton of vendors with quick bites, decent pricing and smiling faces. I love that you just bring your own chair or blanket and relax by the river. There is a ton of parking and a ton of places to sit down as well. Always laid back and filled with families, couples and groups of friends conversing in the best nature. Definitely a great mid week pick me up. read more

This a great event that happens every Wednesday during the summer from 5-830pm. I hear that feed the camel got it's name bc Wednesday is also known as "hump day"... so humps.. plus food trucks.. ya dig? This is good for those of us who like to sample different fares but don't want to fight the crowds from Foodtruck Fridays. The only downer was that there are only two porta potties on the farthest corner of the arts center parking lot. There is a large grassy area in front of the McKinley arts center where you can plop down a blanket or some beach chairs, kickback and hangout. I tried quite a lot tonight but these are the dishes that stuck out for me- The queso birria taco from the pink taco truck. Meat and cheese in a pink fried tortilla with onions, cilantro and dipping sauce. It's packed with flavor. The pig wings from slaters wing a ding truck were Meaty and delicious! The fried Nashville chicken sandwich from big blue Q of Tahoe. Winner! Winner! Chicken dinner! This is huge! The picture does not do it justice at all. Crunchy, flavorful and crazy good;) Looking forward to seeing which trucks will be there next week! read more

First time going to Feed the Camel, and it was shockingly not so bad. Everything just flowed smoothly. It was a beautiful day, such perfect weather at the time. Not to hot, not to cold. We arrived 20 mins before every thing opened, got a spot in the parking lot of the Mckinley Art and Culture Center. Brought our own picnic table and chairs. And also brought our own cooler of drinks. You can bring our dog if you like. All of the food trucks that were there, all accept card. However, some of the trucks had technical difficulties with their card reader. So I recommend bringing cash, just in case. The trucks we tried and our rating of 5 stars - Slater's Ding-A-Wing (Lemon Garlic Parmesan Wings and Fries): 5 stars - Rivera's Mexican Food (Birria Fries): 3 Stars - Nola Sliders (Crawfish Sliders): 5 stars - Crepes & Craft (Build your own crepe; Nutella, Strawberries, Chopped Reese's, whipped cream; powdered sugar and chocolate syrup on top): 4 Stars - Grindz Coffee (Iced Matcha Latte): 5 Stars Overall I'd go back to feed the camel and try the other food trucks. Feed the Camel is a low-key food truck event that takes place on Wednesdays during the summer from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. It's much more relaxed than Food Truck Fridays with fewer food trucks and fewer people, which is why I like it more. It takes place at McKinley Arts and Culture Center which has a nice and large shady grassy area on which you can enjoy your food (bring a picnic blanket!). It's dog friendly and you can take your pooch on a pleasant walk along the Truckee river across the street after you eat if you wish. Parking is kind of a hassle - the lot was full when we arrived but we were lucky to find a spot on an adjacent street. And you can expect to pay more for food truck fare but it's worth it for the ambience here. We enjoyed crawfish sliders from Nola Sliders which were small but mighty delicious! read more

Wednesday's are so boring and this Food Truck Event helps shake your week up a little! There were about 15 food trucks there with a nice assortment of foods to choose from. This week we chose Daddy's tacos, 775 eats, nice cream and I also had a delicious mango margarita from one of the stands at the entrance. Everything we had was delicious and we loved the location. A smaller more manageable food truck event. May thru September on Wednesday nights Feed is held in the well shaded grassy area of McKinley Park. Runs 5-8 pm. There's street parking every where except along Riverside Drive. You will get towed. On the north side of the building, there's a large parking lot. About ten to twelve trucks park under the Keystone overpass. The variety is nice, but the generator noise is very loud. I prefer this venue over the Friday night food trucks in Idlewild Park just diagonally across the river. This venue doesn't draw a huge crowd and you are allowed to bring your pup. So great midweek outing to eat, take a stroll and just kick back at. read more

This is such a fun event. My wife and I went for the first time and loved alll the options. So many trucks with vegetarian and/or vegan options. We had way more to choose from than we expected. It's not HUGE so it's overwhelming. Tip: Bring chairs or a picnic blanket for the law ! We forgot so we just took our foods Togo and ate at home. But we will be back this summer FOR SURE!! read more

Luckily. This isn't an ACTUAL camel. There is no spitting. No gross grunting sounds or fur-covered strange bending body parts. It's just a family friendly way to get some "food truck" dining on. Have you been to Friday nights at Idlewild? Crazy. This...not so crazy. Less people here means no 45 minute lines. The grass in front of the McKinley Arts Center is a great place to just kick back and enjoy the beauty that is Reno. The trucks are under the bridge, troll style...but instead of eating your goats...they are available to offer you tasty food! When I was there it was EBE (Electric Blue Elephant) that was getting my attention. Such good stuff. Had the Masala Bowl. So good. They also had the greatest gelato place, Bibo's. Smee's Alaskan Fish Bar was there too. Parking is just fine with some on site parking as well as plentiful parking on the streets too. The river path is close by if you want to take a nice stroll before or after your meal. Just remember. This is only on Hump Day (Wednesday) for the nicer part of the year. So don't go down there in the middle of winter on a Saturday thinking you are gonna check out those humps those lovely Foodtruck lumps. read more

Bella and I went to opening night Feed The Camel last night! It's been a couple of years since I've been and I was immediately reminded that this is my favorite food truck event by far! Though Bella was a bit disappointed she couldn't ride or feed a camel though LOL I love the smaller community of food trucks - still gives a nice choice and selection without all the craze of too many! A very family-friendly environment on Hump Day throughout the summer, down by the river at McKinley Arts Center! We started with the Wings from Slaters Ding-a-Wings for Bella! Her favorite!! I was happy to find Aloha Shack truck in the hood YAY I had their keto-yum cheese shelled pork tacos... OMG amazing!!! It was such a beautiful evening to sit, enjoy our food and just people watch! As we were ready to leave, we wanted dessert of some kind... it was a toss between Donut Daddy's, Mix Cupcakes or Hawaiian Ice - We decided on Java Ship and absolutely loved them! I had the Double Cream Hawaiian with Coconut Cream and n'ice cream (mmmm) and Bella had the Blue Raspberry Hawaiian Ice. Perfect ending on a warm evening! We were happy Foodies! I would say it was an overall win and we can't wait to go again and try the other amazing food trucks! read more

Less is more speaks volumes here! It's basically Food Truck Friday without all the hustle bustle of a massive crowd. The selection is much smaller but the crowd and lines are much more manageable. The atmosphere is perfect being right on the river walk next to the art center so plenty of grass for you to lounge about. They also welcome your furry friends here which is a huge bonus for me since I love to bring my dog places that are pet friendly. There are a good dozen food trucks/tents to choose from with little lines if any at all. When we went the weather wasn't the greatest, definitely jacket weather if you're sensitive to cold and there was still a good 80-100 people sprawled out on the grass a couple hours into the event. I imagine it's a good but busier with better weather but I can still see the stark contrast of the madness that is Fridays versus the more relaxed Wednesday crowd. I took my wife to this event and she had a blast and is excited for next week! We visited Still Rollin and the Battle Born food trucks which are easily two of my favorites. I grabbed the buffalo mac roll from Still Rollin' truck which if you haven't had it yet you should remedy that! Autumn got the tri tip nachos from Battle Born and I have always kept this truck and that item in particular in high regard. The folks here do tri tip right and I feel like they put more tri tip on this item than they do anything else which is no complaint by any means! We of course indulged in a couple margaritas from Mr. Margarita, again, fantastic people doing fantastic things! I usually get a couple of them and they don't skimp on the booze, that's usually enough to get a nice little buzz that you can share off within the hour. To round out the venture we went to The Lazy Sundae and got their award winning ice cream nachos per recommendation of the guys at Mr. Margarita. I'm not a huge ice cream nut but holy cow were these amazing!!! The ice cream is probably some of the best ice cream I've ever had....EVER! And the cinnamon sugar chips could have gone easily overboard but they were appropriately adorned and not too sweet. If you're not afraid of some extra calories to polish off your meal this is the best way to go! All in all we had loads of fun and I cannot wait to go back. This will be an easy outing for Wednesday's with nothing going on! read more

I have to say I think this food truck event is probably one of the best, if not the best in town. It's a pretty low key and mellow style food truck event. It's in a smaller park, McKinley Arts, and the trucks all set up under the Keystone Bridge, which I can say I actually don't love, because of the noise level of the generators, and the smell. That would be my only deduction on stars. I love that this event is just low key. You're not going to be waiting in hour long lines to get your food. Typically there are only one or two people ahead of you in line, which is great. There's a huge park to set up a spot to sit and eat, or you could walk across the street and set up on the river. There's plenty trucks to choose from, both from dinner, dessert, and drinks. If you're looking for a low key evening, you just don't want to cook dinner, for sure check this out! read more

Food Truck Friday 2.0! (or 1/2, depending on how you look at it...) So yeah - if you've ever been to FTF @ Idewild Park, you probably felt a bit overwhelmed by the crowds and selection of food trucks. It's tough to commit to just one when there are so many options, and who wants to stand in a line for 30 minutes - TWICE - just to get a variety of food? Feed the Camel to the rescue! It's a MUCH more laid-back vibe, parking is a breeze, virtually no lines to wait in, and plenty of grass space to stretch out and relax. Sure, there is no music, and yeah, the selection is smaller, but that makes it so much easier to choose! Grab a buffalo mac egg roll from Still Rollin and then some loaded tots at Bam Dog... or a few tacos at Espinoza's and a slice of pizza from Fire on the Mountain... a drink from Mr. Margarita and a corn dog from Stix & Strips... the possibilities are endless and so very accessible, and without the slew of angry hungry grubbers, you can take your time and chat with the truck owners. That's just an extra cherry on top. The trucks rotate out, so every week is different. This is an EXCELLENT alternative to the craziness of Food Truck Friday, and such a great way to spend your Hump Day! read more

Dang, I went the whole summer without doing this! Good thing I got the last one of the season. This sort of event is always a lot of fun, as it really shows off the small but growing food truck scene present in our city. It's a great chance to showcase what they've got and get exposure. It is especially nice to have gatherings like this since it seems we rarely see the trucks just around town during the week, and I love the opportunity to browse the selections and grab some various random things to munch on. If you've experienced Food Truck Fridays, then you know the drill. A bunch of trucks parked together, you choose the ones that strike your fancy, and spend the rest of your time hanging out and enjoying yourselves. Feed the Camel, occurring on Hump Days throughout the summer, is a much smaller-scale affair hosted down by the river at the McKinley Arts Center. The trucks are parked under and around the Keystone Bridge, and attendees can grab their food and drinks then find a table or nice grassy spot on the lawn. It's a nice way to break up the week, and let some other trucks who may not be at the Friday festivities show their stuff, too. There tend to be far fewer people at this event than Food Truck Fridays, so parking access is easier, the lines are shorter, and the entire atmosphere is way more laid back and chill. Occasionally there will be music or other activities here, as well. Such as tonight, with Archie from the baseball team entertaining the kids. The selections run the gamut of variety. From hot dogs to brisket sandwiches, vegan to hot wings, tacos to corn dogs. Even with only about a dozen trucks and stalls present, you get a really good range to choose from. I ended up with some Latin-Asian fusion rice balls from a new truck, a great chorizo hot dog from Bam Dogs, washed it down with slushy drink from the Mr. Margarita, and topped it off with a scoop of gelato from Bibos. It was certainly an eclectic evening, and browsing through the menus at each place is half the fun. Prices range from a few bucks and go upwards from there depending on what you get and how much of it. Most all places take cards, but bringing cash just makes things way faster and easier all around. If you haven't been this year, put it on your calendar for next summer. Everyone should definitely come and check it out for themselves. Food and fun, can't argue with that. read more

This is a nice neighborhood food truck event. Saying that, there is not much going on besides the food trucks. It's also really loud in the food truck area with the generators so hard to chat while hanging out there. The grass area is nice and if you simply want a quick food truck meal and a chance to catch up with friends, it's a good spot. Opening night for this event. This is a great alternative the Friday night food trucks at idle wild park. It's never very crowded and plenty of grass seating and even a few picnic tables. Also dog friendly! There is always different food trucks and if you find "feed the camel" on Facebook you'll see what trucks will be there ahead. This week we enjoyed tri tip sand which and tri-tip nachos at battleborn food truck and then ice cream nachos at the ice cream truck! Went to our first Feed the Camel event and would go back. There was a nice collection of food trucks and the large lawn area in front of the art center was a beautiful setting to sit and eat. There was also great options for a picnic across the street by the river. The only issue was that all the food trucks were clustered very close together under the bridge. By the time you got the trucks, their generators and all the hungry people under there it became really claustrophobic inducing. Very loud, crowded and hot- making it so you had to yell to be heard. This was too bad as I would have liked to spend some more time looking at my options and perhaps mingling with the food truck purveyors and fellow Camel Feeders a bit more, however I felt like I had to get in, get my food and get out. Perhaps the trucks & booths can be rearranged so that those with generators can line the street and the booths (bakery, drinks, etc) can stay under the bridge. None the less it's a great event and we will be back! Just pack your patience for the food procurement part is the event. read more

Love love love this food truck event! It happens during the summer on Wednesday's making the crowds minimal, unlike Fridays at Idlewild park. It's also right across the street from the Truckee river, so beautiful. It's a great way to try supper popular food trucks without the massive lines. Hope it comes back in 2018 read more
