It smelled musty, and the mustiness immediately made my brain hyper-alert. I got undressed and thought to myself, only 30mins, so no long-suffering. Damn, was I wrong! When I opened the paper-thin sheet, I wanted to vomit! It smelled like a fabric that'd been washed and dried beyond its capacity giving it a disgusting chemical-like smell. My shoulders were tight, and the massage was supposed to be a last-minute fix-me-up, so I got on the bed and threw the stinky blanket over me only halfway up my back, so the stench was not close to my face. The lady up front then comes in the room to give me the massage. Immediately it was a no, especially when she pulled the blanket all the way up to my neck, which is when I snatched it down and said it stank, which she ignored.10 minutes in, another lady comes in to take over even though lady #1 didn't inform me that the swap was going to happen. So boom, I am lying there just trying to let go and let God so that the experience wouldn't be more traumatic than it needed to be. The 2nd lady tried to upsell me by suggesting more time, but I kindly declined. She was better at massaging compared to the 1st one. Unfortunately not enough for me to leave the place pleased but a bit better. In all honesty, I don't know who these 5stars people are, but it was NOT it for me. Those 30mins spent there will be a core memory for a while until something else takes its place in the memory bank. At the price of $45 plus a tip for 30mins, I would've expected something better than what I got, but that's on me, and I learned a valuable lesson. Tl; Dr? Don't go for a full-body massage. If you are, carry your own towel/blanket and don't have high expectations. The area for the foot massages looked alright, so maybe opt for that. Check out their Google reviews. It was then I decided that this might be good for me and looked up classes in my area. I came across Lisa Russell Healing Arts and decided to enroll in her Tai Chi class. The class is offered in a room at the Pearl River United Methodist Church and is one hour in length. Lisa is a wonderful instructor with a calming presence and encourages each student to work at their own pace. Lisa explains the philosophy behind Tai Chi and how it will benefit each individual. Today (6/17) was my first class and it will definitely not be my last. There were 10 students in today's class which were apparently the same age as me. Some first timers and the rest more experienced. Today's class is every Monday at 9:30am but there are others on different weekdays at other locations and at other times. Low impact and high reward. Makes sense to me!
