He seemed really reasonable (we had quite a chat), especially with the advice he was giving to someone who had never skated in her life. It wasn't about selling her $200 worth of gear that she would hate in 5 minutes. He tried to see what she wanted to do, and talked her through natural learning steps to get there. I think a lot of shops don't care. They just want to sell gear. It's kind of like one of those corny movies with the get-rich-quick team and the soul skaters/surfers who just care about the ride. This dude cares about the ride. Getting there is half the fun, correct? Parking is abundant off the main road, 2 hours at a time, which is better than most towns around here.

The goalie staff there were awesome and actually knew what they were talking about. One of the goalie experts helped fit me properly for pads instead of letting me wander around looking like a confused Transformer. They had an unreal selection of gear -- I think I tried on every helmet in the building before finally finding one that fit my head without making me feel like I was being compressed into a submarine hatch. Ended up getting a chest protector for an amazing price, knee pads, helmet, and skates. They baked and sharpened the skates right there too, which made the whole process ridiculously easy. Honestly, for goalie gear this place is dangerous. You walk in needing one thing and suddenly you're convincing yourself that spending hundreds of dollars on equipment designed specifically to get hit by frozen rubber is somehow financially responsible. Great staff, huge selection, and probably one of the best places around if you're a goalie trying to get properly fitted without guessing your way through it.

Called around to a few stores to see if they had our size. Luckily 5 Stride had our sizes. Yay. We quickly hopped on CitiBikes and rode over. We did not have an appointment but were lucky enough to be serviced immediately with 0 wait time. We tried a few brands before deciding to on our purchase. We took FOREVER to decide brand and color of wheels and laces. Paco (staff) was patient and helpful in making sure we got everything we asked for.
