I had to have my front end replaced a while ago and decided on this place. It was my first time using them so I didn't know what to expect. I set up a drop off time and they looked at it the same day. Then they emailed me a great list of things that needed to be fixed, and things that should be replaced soon. Felsing is in my area and a trusted pal from the area recommended it so I inquired via email about oil change prices and appointment availability. Matt replied quickly with concrete information--he was also able to look up my car via license plate and confirm which oil was appropriate. Still via email (which I LOVE), Matt and I went back and forth about scheduling and he said he could get me in before work within that week. He also added my request for wipers. Each time something was added or changed, an estimate was provided and I had to approve it. This part is significant because price is always out and open--whenever I have a car expense, I ask my partner and dad to review and they thought Felsing was fair. Day of my appointment, it was evident I misunderstood what "before work" meant (car could be dropped off but the work not fully complete by the time I'd need to leave for work). A family business stands for nothing anymore. After just moving from Chicago, I was concerned, after trying a few other shops, that we would not find a neighborhood mechanic as thoughtful and as good as the one we had in Chicago. I thought we did but I was wrong. These guys pretend to be a family run operation from the neighborhood but they are just like every other shop. I stopped at Felsings after work today because I could not get the hood of my car open and asked if they could possibly assist. The team at Felsings went above and beyond! They were able to get my hood opened and worked on the latch for about 30 - 40 minutes until it opened as it should. Once they hood worked properly, I asked what I owed them and they said that it was nothing, I was so surprised. I did give them something for their time and effort and will most likely take my car for service in the future. I hit a curb, my tire blew out and thought my suspension was dead. They explained everything clearly and turns out I just needed new tires and an alignment. Was a customer for years. Took our car in ...asked for a tuneup. Told them NOT to run diagnostics...husband knew we needed a tuneup. Picked up the car...they plugged us in for diagnostics anyway...attempted to charge us Xtra $100. Husband said no. Young sales guy called owner who said to drop the $100 fee. Kid didn't like that. Amazing place. Very friendly. I had a nail stuck in my car tire. When I had gone to another mechanic near my house, they said that they would have to replace the entire tire costing me more than 100 dollars. I went to Felsing's to get a second opinion and they said they can patch it up ! I asked them to go ahead and patch the tire. The gentleman who was working on my car came back 10 minutes later stating that the nail had not even penetrated the tread and had got stuck there passively without damaging the tire. The only repair I've had done here was on a leaky tire, but they were prompt, courteous, and upfront (of course, it was just a tire)... I have also called and asked for advice about my ever-lit check engine light and was impressed with their response. The woman I talked to told me that they would be happy to look at it, a full diagnostic could cost up to (but no more than) $120 and take at least two hours, but that many people drive around with it on until the car starts squeaking or acting up. She assured me that while I should get it looked at in the next few weeks/months, it was not dangerous to drive, and driving it would not ruin the car. Again, straightforward, polite, and didn't go for the jugular when given the chance. I'd give more stars, but I haven't yet had any actual engine repair work done there. read more

These guys are great. After work I noticed my brake lights wouldn't turn off. My usual repair shop said "sorry we are too busy to get you in until next week". I called Felsing and even though they were a few minutes away from closing for the night the guy told me "I don't want your battery to be drained overnight. I'll be here for a bit longer. Bring it here and we will try to fix it tonight. If we can't I'll give you a ride home." They did end up having to give me a ride home but the car was ready first thing the next morning for a reasonable price. I was so thankful for their kindness in getting my car in so quickly under the circumstances. Everyone that I interacted with seemed nice. I'll now take my car there for future repairs. read more

I went to Felsing's thinking I needed new breaks and possibly an alignment. When I spoke with Pete that is exactly what I told them. Would have been easy for them to come back and say that is exactly what I needed. Instead they said the breaks were fine and the tires just needed to be rotated. They explained everything very clearly so I could understand, and their service was exceeding expectations. My husband took his car in after work late this afternoon because there was something in the tire. They not only fixed the tire quickly, but went above and beyond to get the key back to us before they closed when we accidentally missed their call. This saved us a huge hassle in the morning. I recently brought my vehicle into Felsings because it would not start. I received a call the next morning that the car was running and that they had only charged the battery. She stated that they weren't sure why the the car was running now, but gave me a list of recommended repairs, one being new struts and springs in the back of the car. I knew that a drained battery was not the cause as I had drained the battery myself trying to get it started, and knew that it was probably a fuel delivery problem. I asked the girl who called me what the total cost for new struts and springs on just the back would cost. She stated $1,400. I then asked her since the car was running what the total cost was that I had owed them. She stated $60 for the tow and $27 to recharge the battery, but that she wasn't sure if that was the total as the mechanic that worked on my car the day before wouldn't be in the shop until noon and that she wasn't sure if he had done any other diagnostics or work on the car. I immediately got dressed and went to pick up my car and paid the $87. My question is this. If the mechanic had turned in a detailed report of what he recommended for other repairs on the car,and that he only charged the battery? Why wouldn't he have included any details of other diagnostics that he had done along with the report that he had only charged the battery? About 2 weeks later i stopped at a convenience store, only to come out to the car and it wouldn't start again, but this time there were no lights working, the car wouldn't turn over, and it was apparent that there was no power supply. I opened the hood and immediately assessed the battery to find that the battery cables had never been secured to the battery posts tightly and that I could just lift the positive cable off the battery terminal. A quality mechanic for $27 would have cleaned the battery posts, charged the battery, re-secured the cables to the post double checking their tightness, and have quick sprayed the posts to prevent future corrosion. All at less than a $1 cost to the shop. By the way! After I was quoted the price for the struts and springs. I called my usual commercial mechanic and without telling him the price I was quoted for the struts and springs and asked for a Quote from him, he stated it would cost about $500-600. I told him what Felsings had quoted me and he stated that even if he put the very best high quality struts and springs on it wouldn't cost anymore than $800-900. The choice is yours!!!! read more
