I had two posts that were weak and needed to be replaced. I called two different fence repair companies and their estimates were expensive and since both sides of the fence are side yards with cemented walkways they would need to cut the concrete in order to replace the posts. I called Fence Dr. Herb, he came the next morning, explained how he would not cut the concrete, but reinforce the posts with steel brackets for long lasting strength and support at a lower cost. I wish I could write a better review, however after many issues with Herb and his crew I can not. All the fences they installed led to broken sprinkler lines, drip lines, damage to my yard lighting, and they hung the fence gate the wrong way (opened the opposite way we had asked for). This happened even after a conversation was had with the owner (Herb), prior to the start of the project and he ensured me that his team would be mindful of these things. So I bring the broken sprinkler line and gate to Herbs attention...he immediately gives excuses and does not want to at least hear what is going on. Same for the direction on how the gate opens. Herb only wanted to make excuses. Finally after some debate, he initially said he would come back and fix the issues to the sprinklers and fix the gate (so it would open the other way). He "gave me is word" that it would be fixed. Then I get a text message saying that he would not be fixing it. I'm disappointed, frustrated and let down, not to mention disrespected as I spent a lot of money on a new fence, which has led me to spending even more money to fix the issues they created. Our neighbor hired them to do the whole fence. While the fence looks nice, they left a ton of dirt in our rock bed and also filled our greens bin to the top with empty cement bags and McDonald's garbage. Now that we've had some windy conditions in the area I called 3x and left messages to return my call. Finally I received a return call from a lady who scheduled for the same day at 5:30pm for an estimate. They didn't show up. Since I did use Herb in the past, I thought I would give them a second chance, which I did. The lady scheduler once again set up an estimate time at 5pm, and they didn't show up again. We had portions of our fence replaced just a couple of years ago. With the recent heavy winds it came down with replaced sections as well. Herb came out to inspect, and then gave me a very fair estimate. He soon had the broken sections removed completely, and the very next day they returned, and we had four new sections up by the end of the day built with a very high quality wood, and in straight alignment. He even installed trimmed post tops to let the rain flow down more easily, and help prevent future wood rot; neither the other fence installer, nor the developer who built this house ever did that. It couldn't be built where the existing fence was ?? So they moved it in as foot. My yard is now a foot smaller the entire length of the yard. As others have noted in their reviews, Herb does NOT return phone calls or keep to his word of coming back if something is not right with his work. He built a new fence/gate for me but after a few weeks, the posts settled and the gate does not open and close smoothly anymore. Several phone calls left for him have been unanswered. When someone pays good money to have a project done, you expect the contractor to stand by his work. Not so with Herb - empty promises of coming back to fix any problems that arise. It is a shame since the initial work done seemed to be very well done. What needs to be fixed would probably take less than 1/2 hour but Herb does not seem to care leaving me no choice but to rate him poorly. Try Java Fence first. read more

First let me say that I went with another contractor, back in 2016, only because they were a referral from a trusted family member, and wish I would have used Fence Dr. instead. Herb promptly returned my message, and calls, and came out to view my property and assess our fencing needs quickly. He required no measuring tape, unlike all of the other contractors that I met with, and sent me a written bid within 24 hours. The measurements for our yard were spot on and his pricing beat the majority of competitors. My first mind told me to hire him for the job and I should have listened. I am now considering calling Herb, again, to fix the mess of a fence that is now in place. Reached out in order to try and get a quote. I received a quick response indicating to please text him so he would have my phone number and that he would likely be able to come out the next day to give me a proper quote. In addition I sent him two pictures so he could see the job. The next day I received a message back from him asking me to stop sending him picture messages over and over again, and that his phone kept trying to receive them and it kept failing. I explained that I had only sent two and they were from the day before. This was the last I heard from him. He could have simply written my number down and deleted the text thread and it would have resolved the issue. Very good work that Herb's son and the other young man did on there fence work. They re-fenced a 16' section that was old and beginning to fall apart. My neighbor and I used Herb to build a fence between our yards. He said it would take 3-4 days. It seemed, when he did show up, him and his boys were in such a hurry, that they kept forgetting what we asked for. They took such little care of the area around the new fence, that they had to spend 4 days uncovering and cleaning all the river rock they just piled dirt and mud on, rep;lace all the mulch they put dirt on, instead of just raking to the side, they paid for new plants they piled wood on, and paid a hefty price for staining brand new concrete from the new Redwood when it got wet..Even though we told him it was going to stain it, don't do it, he did it anyway.What was supposed to be a 4 day job, took almost 3 weeks. read more
