We recently purchased a play set from Fence Works. We are thrilled to have partnered with them because of their knowledge, price, and selection. We shopped around for play sets before deciding on Fence Works. I had the pleasure to work with Susan. It was obvious from our first conversation that she (along with other members of the team) are knowledgeable about play sets. I asked her 30+ questions during my first visit and she was able to answer them thoroughly. We were equally impressed with the selection and that our kiddo could "test" the different play sets. Rolled in to Fenceworks one Saturday afternoon with my daughter in tow to look at hoops and swing sets. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming, they were very gracious and let my daughter climb all over everything and even jump on the trampoline. It had been raining and my daughter sat in a puddle on one of the slides and they even got her a towel to clean herself up. Great service all around. Chose the 60" Hoopworks hoop and just had it recently installed. Could not have gone better, they had to take out an old, falling over hoop and it was done neatly, cleanly, and on time. I had been researching trampolines for a while, and had spoken to Sandy from fenceworks on the phone. He was accommodating and understanding, giving me plenty of time and attention. Then I went to fenceworks. Lindsey was great, answered every question, had tons of information, and tailored the trampoline for my family's needs opposed to what was most expensive. I brought my kids along and they had a blast "trying out" the trampolines...which was really helpful. They arranged a very reasonable, quick installation date, the installers were wonderful (even though I couldn't be home AND they set up in the rain!) and we all LOVE the trampoline!! My kids use it every day, it was worth every penny and I would definitely go back to fenceworks when I need something else. read more

A complete mess! The crew of 3 completely decimated our lawn in the process of putting up our fence. They threw the wood for the fence all over the lawn, stomped on it and destroyed the grass. All our mulch was dragged all over the lawn, creating a huge mess. It completely blows my mind how careless this was done and how much work and money will involve in fixing this giant mess. I want discuss what happened with your process so I can take further steps to make my company better. We have been doing this for 49 years and every year we get better and better , but I understand not every job is perfect hence why I would like to know what happened. If your goal was just to write a bad review well then that doesn't accomplish anything. Regardless, if you don't want to give your name and contact information than that's cool and I wish you well. update: Yelp did not notify us of this review until months later. It was filtered and flagged by Yelp, and the name on the account changed a day after we sent a private message, we have no way to verify this review. My response: 1. I updated my email, not the name on my account. You trying to discredit a review is what I have come to expect from reading your reviews and from my experience with FW. 2. My goal is simply to let other people know that dealing with your back office can be a problem, not to write a bad review that doesn't accomplish anything (your words). 2. You did the work last spring, I posted June 1 and heard from you in Jan/Feb, 8 months later. In terms of verifying the review, really? I wrote my review of FW services based on my experience with Fencework's back office. That you missed it for 8 months seems odd to me based on my experience with Yelp. My experience is that they notify me of all reviews and sometimes take them down but that I have always seen them all so I think you missed it. But, have it your way and try to discredit me. 4. The contract with FW is in my husband's name, not mine and we have different last names, which is why you haven't been able to match the names. So, as I said earlier, I have no interest in discussing with you 8 months after the fact. I had a very positive experience working with Fenceworks. The quote they gave me was in line with quotes I got from a couple other companies. Sandy was very patient and helped me decide on a fence and the installation was scheduled as he said it would be. The fence was installed yesterday. There were a few issues but I was very impressed with the way it was handled. The crew came back first thing this morning and the issues were resolved. I LOVE my new fence! read more

Tried calling again for help but they simply refuse. Read the response to my review from the store owner and you'll see exactly why you shouldn't buy anything here. Instead of trying to help us and resolve the issue, he simply says we're negative and angry customers. Very professional . Installed a great fence years ago when "the guy on 41" was still in control. Now, the second generation has no clue how to service customers. Phone calls go unreturned, promises are not kept. A production manager who lies and is all too willing to walk away from business. My advice is to look elsewhere. Plenty of high quality places to choose from. Needed just a simple new fence on one side of our Chicago lot. Appointment for an estimate was easy. With neighbors splitting the cost (a price which I felt was right on the money for the work) we all scheduled a time. They called the day before to confirm and arrived when they said they would. We are thrilled!! We were in need of a dog run and large fence to enclose our yard and we got more than we bargained for! From start to finish we had an amazing experience. I purchased an in ground basketball hoop that was installed a few years ago. We are very happy with the hoop and it has held up great thru the crazy Chicago weather. We needed a new pad around the big bolts on the ground. Susan Peterman is amazing and found me the original manufacturer of the pad. She went out of her way to help us get what we need! Vincent and his crew came on the scheduled date and did a splendid job in installing the fence. They showed amazing attention to detail and displayed ownership of the task at hand. Vincentte came out to install the fence and was incredibly professional and hardworking--He worked from 9-7:30 to finish a job we were originally told would require a second day. We were so thrilled to be able to let our dog out in the backyard earlier than expected. Fenceworks is not only extremely professional and informative but they also have fantastic customer service along with a ton more.. They helped us choose the perfect fence for our backyard and gave us a lot of helpful insight on choosing the right play set for my child. They told us what was important to have and which fence was right for us. i completely trusted their guidance, and all summer long my daughter was as happy as could be. They also instructed us on the proper protocol for building a fence around your neighbors, the proper height for the fence to get, and the entire permitting process. We recently had the chance to remove an extremely old and rusted swingset that was left over from the previous owner and it was because of that I was on my search for a new swingset for my son's upcoming birthday. I had shopped around and even looked at the Rainbow (extremely overrated and expensive!) and found their service to be cold and for the most part inflexible. My wife did an extensive search and told me about Fenceworks and upon our first visit, we had a great experience. The salesman was not pushy, allowed us to look around at playsets and even provided us with the necessary information for us to go home and think about it. The next day I went back with one train of thought on what I wanted and through talking with the family, came up with another solution altogether that really fit our needs well. Admittedly, I am stubborn, but what was suggested not only made sense, but was perfect. We had a bit of time crunch, but being as we were going to get something custom ordered, we fully expected to have to wait until after out son's b-day. To my surprise, I received a call on Monday of this week that it was in and they would be able to install on Friday, July 8th. The install team was punctual, well mannered and extremely diligent in both installing and cleaning up. My son could not have been more excited and I could not be happier with the end result. We will enjoy the tower and swingset for years to come and I would highly recommend Fenceworks! read more

I went in to these guys looking for missing parts for a set my neighbor gave me. He suggested going to "The Guy On 41" because they sold him the set. Big mistake. We were greeted quickly by a sales woman out in the display area. It was oddly reminiscent of a used car lot pitch. The sale person's smiley demeanor vanished when I told her I was looking for parts to repair one of their older sets. She informed me that they had dropped the manufacturer of my set. She told me I could ask inside if I wanted and walked away. After we looked around a bit we went inside. As we walked inside, the woman from the lot said to the woman at the counter "those are the guys". The woman at the counter (Owner?) repeated they had dropped the manufacturer of my set and couldn't sell me parts from another manufacturer sighting liability issues. I said, I understood if the manufactures wanted to limit their sales to full sets but couldn't see any liability issues. She told me she represented the manufacture and was sure I could find something elsewhere or online that I could make work. I told her I was sure I could build an entire set and I just thought because they had sold the original set I would check there first. She thanked me and invited me to "Be gone" "Go now, we don't need your attitude here..Be gone with you" No problem. I'm gone and I won't be back. I have no desire to be up sold or B***S*** ed about liabilities. I simply stopped in to save time or get information. How about simply saying "Sorry we don't carry that line any more but here's their contact information" But then why bother if there's no sale to be made. I have three preschoolers. I'll be sure to let all their friends parents know if they go to the "The Guy On 41" they can expect the service to be directly proportionate to the size of the check they're willing to write. They originally installed my fence which had problems with the posts and gates. Gates where a major issue. I gave them the courtesy upon replacement and found them to be typically rude and most expensive of three bids. ACTION Fence did the replacement work very promptly and they were a good value. I would not recommend Fenceworks. read more

They made me wait 3 weeks to come out to my house and when they arrived late, the salesman would not do an estimate for my 19 year and said "you can make another appointment so I don't have to deal with a kid". The owners is a bully - BUYER BEWARE!!!! Instead of responding to a complaint about their work and customer service, Fenceworks chooses to go on the attack and claim their were "bill payment issues." They actually lied in their response about us not paying their bill. It was paid in full within 10 days of completing their work and just a few days after receiving their bill. They did not deny immediately cashing our check, us not hearing from them for several weeks after they did, them not coming out when they said they would be coming to do the work, emailing us a lien notice just a day or two after we received the bill despite my efforts to reach out to them several times via email and phone (leaving messages each time). When I posted a bad review on another site they went on full attack and accused me of our credit card being denied - I think it was an effort to shame us - LOL. The denial was a result of our credit card company assuming fraud when they charged our card. Talk about a joke of a company. Can't even tell you how many people commented to me afterwards about what an insane response they had and how crazy they look. read more

Very disappointed in the process with this company. Lovely fence, in fact - beautiful. BUT their installation team put it in a different location that originally agreed upon with the guy who did the estimate. The guy who did the estimate made a drawing, indicating that the fence would be 5 feet from the house, all along the east line of the property. His drawing was inserted into my contract with the company and I signed off. When the installation team arrived, they used the plat of survey and determined that the fence had to be moved in by eight inches along that whole line and THEY DIDN'T TELL ME. I understand why they had to put the fence where they did, I understand that they were following the property line and this is their obligation. My complaint is not that they followed the plat of survey. My complaint is that they didn't communicate with me about the change - until AFTER the fence was installed, AFTER I noticed it, and AFTER I complained. To date, I've only received an explanation of how a plat of survey works and why they put the fence where they did. I have not received an apology for not communicating with me about this in advance. My shock and frustration could have been prevented at two different junctures: 1) the installation guy could have used the plat of survey himself and never written "five feet" on the contract, or 2) when the installation team arrived and noticed the discrepancy between the "five feet" drawing in the contract and the actual plat of survey, they could have halted construction and consulted with me and warned me about the discrepancy. I would have expected this basic level of communication. So, just to be clear, I'm not arguing that the fence should have been illegally installed or over the property line - not at all - I'm just arguing that I should have been WARNED IN ADVANCE that they couldn't follow the original drawing in the contract - as soon as they discovered that the "five feet" measurement couldn't be honored, and BEFORE they built a fence. This was a major investment for my family and I'm so disappointed with the process & communication style of this company. read more

Fenceworks was the first place we looked when searching for swing-equipment for our children, and it should have been the last. When we first began searching we didn't really know what we were getting into. Lindsey was extremely helpful in explaining the differences between their offering, and what was also out on the market. After leaving, we searched a few other stores, including American Sale, but could find nothing near the quality of product that Fenceworks offered. Being a locally owned family-store, the level of intimacy with Fenceworks was un-matched by any of the other competitors. We also purchased the installation option, and were extremely pleased with the finished product--the installers did a great job! I cannot speak for their fences, but if you are in the market for playground equipment then I highly recommend you stop in and see Fenceworks. It is probably wise to go to their store rather than just calling in, as you won't quite understand their level of service until you see them in-person. read more
