She rescued a dog from an abusive situation and ensured it was safely rehomed. Even 2 years later, she continued to support with food, toys, and supplies. That kind of follow-through is rare and truly shows how much she cares beyond just the initial rescue. She also took the time to guide me through caring for bottle baby kittens, which is no easy task. She didn't just give advice, she provided hands-on support and supplies, making sure the kittens had the best chance possible. The amount she takes on is no small feat, yet she continues to show up for animals and the community every single day. I had a very disappointing experience working with Michele through this organization. Communication was extremely difficult--messages were often ignored, and when I did receive a response, it felt like I had to repeatedly explain the same information without it being acknowledged. When I was finally able to secure a vet appointment through her, I was told by the veterinary office that payment would be handled at the time of pickup. However, Michele later called me and spoke in a raised, confrontational tone, insisting that this was not how she operates and that I could simply pick up my cat and "forget it." The interaction felt unprofessional and unnecessarily hostile. When I did in fact pay through Venmo she gave me attitude and said how I had told her it would be through Zelle followed by the very professional response of, "whatever." I understand that volunteers may be dealing with personal challenges, and Michele mentioned that her cat was very ill. While that is truly unfortunate and deserving of empathy, it does not justify speaking to others in a disrespectful or aggressive manner--especially when they are reaching out in good faith to help care for a feral cat family. Organizations like this do important work, and clear, respectful communication is essential. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling discouraged and unsupported. We didn't know who to turn to when our feline population exploded like a never-ending, out-of-control cat factory in our backyard! All we wanted to do was to feed the ferals so they don't get hungry but they multiplied like crazy! We reached out to a few different groups for help and guidance, but Michele from the Feral Cat Foundation was the first and only one to consistently reply and answer our endless list of questions. When we met, she showed up packed like a cat-whisperer MacGyver, complete with cat traps, food, pads, covers, and bowls. She patiently walked us through how to use the equipment and, more importantly, how to care for our furry little guests post-surgery. The spay and neuter process was incredibly smooth. We'd let her know in the morning that we had a cat ready, and she took care of all the logistics. All we had to do was drop the kitty off at the hospital, make our donation and pick them up in the afternoon. Dealing with feral cats can be pretty nerve-wracking, but Michele's compassionate approach and clear explanations really helped with this whole ordeal. From going out of her way to personally feed/ spay and neuter, 100s of strays , to helping cats and kittens find their forever homes, she has only worked wonders. I am writing to give praises to Michele Salzberg with the Feral Cat Foundation whom we met through the Petco , Union City. We found ourselves dealing with many stray/feral cats in our neighborhood in the Lakes district of Fremont. After bringing in a stray to Fremont Tri city shelter and realizing they were of no immediate help, When contacting Michele, she immediately gave us information and assistance in TNR for these cats. This process went smoothly by trapping them & having the ability to bring them in right away to the vet hospital she works with. The cost was considerably lower than what i had researched . We were able to get spay/neuter,, shots, de worm, flea meds etc all in one visit. One of the older males I brought in had a very bad foot injury which she assisted in paying for his medical procedures and also helped with lending me a cage and meds and supplies for its rehab after the neuter surgery & foot mending. The older male cat along with the other 6 cats are happy and healthy and are being fed by us and living in our neighborhood. If it wasn't for Michele's assistance, I know we would have had many more stray/ feral cats being born here. I have seen how Michele has made this her life's mission, to care for the stray/feral cats in our community and to help people with the ridiculous costs that vet hospitals now charge clients for spay and neuter procedures. There is a kitty angel here on earth and her name is Michele. She has been key in helping me get the feral cat population under control in my neighborhood, and additionally in neighborhoods of many of my friends. Thanks to her foundation, we have fixed dozens of cats! She works tirelessly to help people and these precious animals. I have called her numerous times when I saw a cat or kittens in need, injured, etc. She always comes to their aid, and often after being up all night doing her own rescue work which includes feeding numerous colonies. Although kind people volunteer now and then, it is never enough to keep up with the high demand. She is basically a solo act. I have no words to express my gratitude. Absolutely never have i experienced such a discrimination. We were the only latinos today trying to adopt. It was inside petco in Livermore. PETCO should really consider what organization they let for these adoption events. I will be contacting Petco and telling them my experience today. Main owner of the organizer of the feral cat foundation would not I repeat WOULD NOT let us adopt a cat from them because I made a comment about OUR NEIGHBOR having an indoor and outdoor cat. And that cat comes inside our home all the time. After that comment I made she completely become offensive and stated how much their kittens are. I assure her money isn't the problem. She then proceeded to tell each and every lady there to NOT LET US ADOPT. Told us go to the shelter they are cheaper. Absolutely absurd. They also trap, spay/neuter, and release feral adult cats that appear too wild to be pets. They provide a great service for the community to help control the wild cat population. Horrible Horrible customer service by their rep today at the Livermore Petco. She was giving out a lot of information to an older couple when I arrived, When I started to inquire about the cats she said that they are a $150 ready to go, But when I asked if they are indoor outdoor cats she was dramatically offended and told me I should talk to another group. I asked her why she felt like that and told her as far as I ever knew in my own experience, my parents grandparents and so on have always used cats to help with pest control around the house. The lady literally scoffed at me and said cats can easily be eaten by a dog a raccoon a hawk get ran over..Et cetera. These people are helping feral cats in the east bay by capturing feral cats or kittens, spaying and neutering, and finding homes when possible. They also foster and socialize those waiting for homes, as well as regularly feed the ferals that they are not able to domesticate. We got our little guy Jerome (pictured above) from this organization. He was diagnosed with a heart murmer and they arranged for an ultrasound and fund-raising to pay for it. They are doing a big service to the community by helping to eliminate overpopulation and helping the homeless kitties. read more

I am so thankful for organizations such as this but I would use another one if I were you. I was connected with a foster volunteer, Michelle, and we had numerous text conversations and phone before I actually met the cat. Things went well and I was ready to adopt. I set up an appointment with my vet for 2 days later and Michelle offered to meet me at the vet. I woke up the morning of the appointment to a message from her that she had had a late night and didn't feel well and that I needed to reschedule. I am still working from home and had to move things around to make the appointment so I texted her that I really needed to do it that day and asked her to just drop the cat off. No response. A little later I offered to come pick up the cat. No response. I then had to last minute cancel the appointment and make one for the next day. I texted her to let her know that. No response. I'm an adult and was broken hearted but I could deal. I would hate if this were to happen to a family with a child who had already fallen in love, it would be heartbreaking. My biggest issue is the lack of a response. If there was an issue then I at least deserved some communication. When this issue was brought up to another foster volunteer in the organization it didn't seem to be a concern, just "Michelle does things how she wants." Huge lack of respect from this organization. I was just in the Pet store in San Ramon and my son wanted to hold a kitten. He is six. He went up to the old lady with the short blond hair and asked her politely if he could hold a cat. Her response, "We only let people hold cats who are going to adopt one. Are you going to adopt one?" Really! To a six year old boy. As a non-profit shouldn't you being doing everything you can to solicit donations and helping to advance your cause. Instead you disappointed a six year old boy and his father. Incidently, we are huge supporters of animal rescue operations and often give a few dollars when we visit the various events. Big mistake today Feral Cat Foundation. I am all for what this foundation represents and does for feral cats but the customer service I just received what horrible. The lady who I spoke to wouldn't listen or let me say anything before she jumped down my throat telling me that they have no volunteers in my area and how she won't send someone to me. I asked her why she was being so rude to me and she said she's been yelled at the past 8 calls she's received. I ended up telling her I would be trying to figure this out on my own and writing them a bad review. She then decided to call me back because she didn't want the review. Funny thing about the second call is she didn't change her tone, fast talking, or tried to even let me speak. So yes, I'm writing my review. I have dealt with this group on a number of different occasions. They are a great bunch of caring people. They go above & beyond to help. I have called many group, most don't even bother to return the calls, one did but said they were too busy. FCF has ALWAYS come through, how anyone could not give them all 5 stars is beyond me. They do what they do because they care, where others have failed. They do this for the love of the cats & kittens. This review is long overdue! Feral Cat Foundation is outstanding. I became involved with them about 2 1/2 years ago when my son and I found and trapped a feral cat. Not knowing what to do, after trapping him, we called a number we found for Feral Cat. Katy responded, met us and took the cat to the vet the next day to get him tested for feline leukemia and to have him neutered. Unfortunately he was not by any means human friendly. He was released back to his colony. After I caught him, I started to feed and trap ferals in the colony. Feral Cat fixed them and released them or found them homes if they were adoptable. Katy was and still is available for any cat needs (advice etc). I encourage everyone to adopt from and donate to FCF! The kittens/cats are cared for by their foster parents.The foster parents know the cat's personalities, likes/dislikes etc., and can provide a wealth of information about the cat.The cats have been thoroughly examined by a vet, have been spayed/neutered and have shots. I adopted an adorable kitten from FCF in January 2009 as a friend for my 3 year old cat. Kaylie was happy, healthy, and immediately bonded with my older cat. They are buddies -- sleep togther, play together, and groom each other. A few months later, I became involved in another group that is closer to my work (Community Concer for Cats) because of the number of cats abandoned at my work which is near the Shelter.
