Why as for a tip for service when the only table service and people bus their own tables? The only service was the food was dropped off at the table. We ordered at the bar and took our drinks to the table. It has good music and a lot of patio seating, but nothing that made it a place I'd find interesting to go to. The food had crisp veggies and seemed fresh. The Miso bowl and the Peanut Sauce bowl both had nicely cooked veggies and flavors, but not awe inspiring flavors. We used to visit this place all the time on visits to PDX. We finally returned to the their brunch menu, and it didn't disappoint. My wife got their Breakfast Burrito ($12), a massive one that is loaded with tofu scramble, black beans, red peppers, and breakfast potatoes. The taste I had was delicious. I got their Benny on a Biscuit ($15), which comes with Yo Egg and tofurky ham on two English muffins, and wonderfully seasoned breakfast potatoes. With a group, it was convenient to order and pay at the bar then they bring the food out to your table. I enjoyed my vegan eggs benny and it was so fun to try these special vegan eggys. Everything that my friends ordered looked delicious too and I've always enjoyed the sandos I've had when I've come later. With my brekki, I got the rosemary lemonade and that was a real delight. This is a solid local bar that serves exclusively vegan food. They offer two great outdoor seating options, and have abundant indoor seating as well. Ordering was a little chaotic, you have to get the attention of the person behind the bar. I tried their watermelon marg slushy, which was delicious. I've discovered vegan eggs benedicts..used to be my favorite brunch before going vegan. I don't know what magic was used to create this delicious eggs benedict that is vegan. It looks like eggs bennie, and when you cut into the poached egg, a river of yellow ran out. It tastes just like the eggs benedict that I loved in my former life. I got a beyond burger and it was delicious but, I will say I wanted some fries which they do not have so that did disappoint. Their chips are good but ...sniffle... I appreciated the pickle until I took a bite and my pickle was floppy and not crunchy so it just seemed old and disappointing. My friend gave me a bite of her chili which is served over Fritos and that IS where it is at! Freaking delicious. I get having to go to the bar and order but, as an ADA person, I also am not a huge fan of having to stand in a line to order. It is awkward, especially trying to balance my cane with one hand and my drink, the standing number for my order, my wallet etc etc.... get back to my table... I tend to shy away from bars for food for this reason and prefer to just go to a restaurant. I have been hanging out with a friend who likes to go to bars for food and I love trying new places. I wished I had opted for the Mexican Coke versus their gun because the Coke from the tap was not great and tasted watered down. I genuinely do not drink a huge amount and am highly allergic to hops so I appreciate it when bars have their soda game on point and definitely notice when they don't. When we sat down after we had ordered our food, a person came in and said that they had been waiting for an hour for their food. We started panicking a bit because we wanted to make sure that we got to our movie on time. Thankfully, our food came out much faster than that. I will say that is one convenience of ordering upfront is that when you are done eating, you are done. More than a dive bar but less than a pub, but either way the Bye n Bye has been so consistently good over the years that I often forget how welcoming the vibes are here. The tap list is solid, the cocktails are always interesting and well mixed, and the wine is ...ok. Good mix of N/A options too. As for the food, well, even if you're not vegan, it's a flavor-filled menu. Personally I'm a fan of the peanut broccoli bowl, a nice heaping portion of rice, broccoli and tofu, super filling and rich tasting. The service is well above average for a counter-service joint, and the clean, mod but still tasty decor strikes a nice balance of updated yet still funky -- super casual but none of that faux rustic crap. There's a big outdoor seating area up front where the parking lot used to be, but it's not that cool -- the better designed one is out back, and fully covered. Order food and drink at the bar counter. Two thumbs up for a very chill Alberta Street mainstay. read more

I used to frequent this place ~7 years ago or and and loved this spot. How sorrowful I am to find myself in realization to the down fall that's since occurred. I went there the other night and started off strong with a rude and ill charismatic bartender. This should have been taken as a stark warning for the continued disappointment to come. It was the pretzel bites that set my praises for this restaurant aside. OH. My god. The cheese was frogging gross. I'm not too sensitive to the peculiar uniqueness of vegan cheese, but dang. It's like they processed a bunch of random foods together and hoped for the best. The atmosphere is trendy and cozy, but not particularly welcoming--the kind of place that looks inviting but doesn't necessarily make you feel at home. I ordered the mac & cheese and pretzels as an appetizer. As someone who is dairy-free, it was amazing to have an entire menu I could choose from without worrying about getting sick! The food was solid and reasonably priced, which I really appreciated. However, the service was lacking. The staff wasn't friendly or attentive--we had to ask where to sit, where to find the menu, and just generally felt like we were figuring things out on our own. A little more guidance and warmth from the staff would have made a big difference. The crowd was definitely interesting--different from my usual scene, but not necessarily in a bad way. That said, next time I'd probably just do pick-up to enjoy the food without the awkwardness of the in-person experience. read more

Do I have to say Bye and Bye? Can I say, HELLO and "can I stay for just a bit longer?" Because I absolutely love this all-vegan bar. We came here with the intention of a late dinner, but after seeing all the beers and ciders on tap, we decided to make it a night. Our server was super nice to let me try their ciders before committing, and my pint was only about $6 which is a great deal compared to other major cities. There were lots of ample seating both indoors and out. We were worried about crowds so we were able to find a corner to ourselves indoors while still having a wide open space to breathe in the fresh air from outside. You order everything at the bar and they bring out the food to your table. We started with their Pretzel Knots ($6) with mustard and a homemade cashew cheese sauce for dipping. When these were fresh and hot, they were amazing. A bit on the saltier side but you could shake it off. For our mains, we ordered their Peanut Broccoli Bowl ($12) and Weeping Tiger Sandwich ($11). OMG the bowl was bomb - nutritional yeast baked tofu with a generous helping of veggies and rice. The sauce was fire too. As for our sandwich, the sriracha and miso mayo blended all the veggies and tofu together really well. Only thing we wish was for the bread to have been toasted, but it was still delicious. Seating inside and out. Garlic edamame was super flavorful. Could have eaten a Vat of that. Two entrees...bbq tofu with Brussels and rice. Man that bbq sauce was amazing. Brussels were good but not great, they needed more seasoning. The tofu and broccoli with peanut sauce and rice was a solid meal. Sriracha helped that dish along. I'd easily order both again. We got a side of tempeh and that was the star. Adding Sriracha elevated it! We also ordered the Oreo dream cake. Ohhh so good. Cake was not dry and the buttercream was amazing.
