Recently, the Mr. and I, along with our friends S and M, spent the day in Hood River. We had a wonderful time exploring the Fruit Loop and enjoying everything the area has to offer. When hunger struck we went in hunt for a location for lunch. The first place we tried was full, so we were looking for an alternative. The Saw Tooth Roadhouse looked like a local kind of place and after checking it out, we noted it had a variety of menu options. The Mr, S, and M all opted for sandwiches and I chose the mini 'old school pie'. Everyone else had a beer but I decided on a Mexican Coke. My pizza was anything but mini. It was big enough to feed two. It was tasty and included pepperoni, Italian sausage, and fresh mushrooms. I almost got the Italian Grinder which is what the Mr. had. He let me have a bite and it was good. M got the French dip and S the turkey bacon cheddar sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was friendly. read more

We ordered an appetizer--Spinach and Artichoke Dip with homestyle breadsticks. It was REALLY good! Then we ordered a large half White Pizza and half Old School, both were SUPER good! We all love our food experience. * Suggestions: firstly, It's a bit dark in the restaurant, and the outside seating was closed for the day around 4:00 pm. Secondly, not a fan of plants on the window sill, with extra large plates that were nasty looking. That said, the decor of the place is fun, our boys really liked the Bigfoot theme. * I WOULD recommend this restaurant, it's worth the drive from The Dalles, OR. Thank you, y'all! read more

Initially we were sure what to make of this place. It felt like we may be ignored. That service would take forever. But we found our way to the patio, the server on top of things and the pizza coming out about as fast as it could. No frills restaurant along the Hood River Fruit Loop, Saw Tooth Roadhouse has been serving up surprisingly good pizzas, hearty sandwiches and killer nachos for years. It's perfect for families and adults, tourists and locals. The pizza has a good crust, chewy with char, not too thick which is what I prefer. Several varieties to choose from but we always do a classic pepperoni. If pizza isn't what you are craving, the sandwiches are delicious and filling! My favorite is the Italian Grinder, or what I call a sub, with extra vinegar and hot peppers. For BBQ lovers, get the pulled pork sandwich, so messy but delicious. Start with an order of nachos with all sorts of goodness piled high on Juanitas chips, made locally in Hood River. Inside has a bar area and tables for inside dining. They serve cocktails in addition to beer, hard cider and wine. We like sitting outdoors on the patio in the warmer weather, a perfect break in the afternoon between vineyards while out wine and cider tasting. The service is warm and welcoming. They had a rough time during Covid and I'm so happy to see that they are still serving hearty food with a smile. Definitely stop by while in the area for good, unpretentious eats! read more

Excellent order of breadsticks for our starter. Huge portion and covered with cheese. I take that back. Absolutely laden with mozzarella cheese. Heavy to lift. There was so much to eat in the way of breadsticks that neither of us made a respectable dent in our delicious pizzas. We sat in the family-friendly room and were well taken care of by the super polite bartender. He didn't miss a beat. The dining room has a rustic feel to it and had interesting historic photos of the timber industry on the walls. The location is right next door to a mill. Glad we stopped here. We ordered half the Hula Pizza (Canadian bacon and pineapple) and half the 1976 Pizza. Both are delicious! There's a separate bar too. Our waiter is attentive and great. There's an outdoor dining area that is probably open in warmer weather. In all, a great casual dining experience! read more

I normally drive by here a couple of times a week. I was worried they might not survive the covid19 shutdowns but they have. And that's a good thing. I can tell you when you drive up and they're open the smells of cooking food will start your mouth watering. We started with the classic nachos and they are not only delicious but it is a huge plate. We followed up with a french dip, a rueben, a pulled pork and a mr crunchy. All were really good, large portions. The only let down was the blackberry aujus. What we got wasn't what was expected, but the mr crunchy sandwich was good on it's own so no harm no foul. Living in Portland we have to plan a road trip to eat here, but we're thinking of one in the near future because we want to try the pizzas which smelled amazing! read more

Were it not for Yelp reviews, we would have whizzed right by Sawtooth Roadhouse yesterday on our trip to Hood River. Just as we had whizzed by it many times before. But after doing Yelp homework in advance of this trip, this time we planned to stop in for lunch at Sawtooth. Now we know what we've been missing all those times before! This is a great little place. A perfect location for a casual lunch or dinner during or after visits to Fruit Loop farms or local wineries. WHY WE'RE FANS: Pride of ownership shines here, from the sparkling clean interior (even in the loo), to the cool outdoor seating but especially in the warm welcome, super friendly and efficient service and the great food. It's important to set your expectations though. This is a Roadhouse with a working sawmill across the parking lot (see photo). The infrastructure is old, but in great repair and fully accessible from paved parking lot (woohoo), through level in entries at bar and dining room, and loo too. MENU / FOOD/ LIBATIONS: As one would expect in a Roadhouse, the menu is casual. While not the case in all Roadhouse establishments, the food here is really delicious and everything is scratch made. We were hoping they'd have the Thai Peanut soup we'd heard about on the daily specials menu. Not available on our visit, so we shared a really good Hitchhiker Pizza. Tender, thin crust, topped with artichoke hearts, big sweet cloves of roasted garlic, fresh spinach, kalamata olives, sun-dried tomatoes and cheese. We recommend it! (Next time we might ask the chef to cook the crust a little crispier for us, but that's simply personal preference.) At $12 for a small pizza that easily fed two for lunch, this was a bargain. There were lots of other good options on the menu to choose from that included soup, salad, sandwiches, a plethora of pizzas and pasta (including lasagna and mac n cheese) in options for omnivores and vegetarians. (And here's a tip - save room for the desserts because we hear they are delectable.) As one would also expect in a Roadhouse, there is a full service bar. A nice surprise here is that the short list of wines by glass and bottle were mostly local wineries and inexpensive too (roughly $7 and $24 respectively). Long beer list. SEATING OPTIONS offered in three areas: the bar / lounge for those 21 and older, an all ages dining room called "family dining" as I recall on the entrance, and outdoors both under a canopy on a deck and on a sunny lawn. For Roadhouse ambiance, we'd recommend the bar. But the family dining area was pretty cute too with wall art that fits the area including antique skis, saw blades, and sleds. If you're looking for a quieter experience, the family dining room or outdoor dining areas will be the ticket. This is an "all people are welcome here", kind of place. LIVE MUSIC with no cover on some nights. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION: Just off Highway 35, on the east side of Highway, roughly between Draper Girls Farm (to the south) and the turnoff to Rasmussen Farms (to the north). Only about 10 miles from downton Hood River (north) and about 6 miles from downtown Parkdale (south). It's a little hard to see the white building as you drive up or down Hiway 35, but you can't miss the big red lettered RESTAURANT. If all else fails, look for the sawmill and you'll see Sawtooth Roadhouse across the lot. read more

My wife and I were on the "Fruit Loop" looking for a place for lunch and stumbled on "Saw Tooth." When we arrived, we were a little worried because we were the only ones there and, being noon, you would expect the biggest crowd. We decided to go for it and we're glad we did because we were rewarded with one of the best pizzas we've had. We chatted with the owner for a bit and learned that COVID, as with other places, has been especially hard for business. It lays just off of Highway 35 on the east side of the road, if you are not paying attention you might go right by the place, which would be tragic because the Saw Tooth Roadhouse is a real gem of a place. It is a restaurant and a bar, a classic combination and one that suits the joint in this neck of the woods. The menu is pretty diverse but they seem to take particular pride in being a maker of fine pizzas. Pride well founded I may add, because we bought 13 pizzas for our racing team dinner and they were all ranging from good to excellent by the 20 or so people we fed. For those that are inclined they even sell a gluten free pizza, in small size only, which was rated as good by those that know. What I like about the place is the atmosphere, you feel like you are at a logging camp and the people around you are lumberjacks (and they're okay, they sleep all night and they work all day). The bar has a full set of Lotto games in an attached room and it all feels so very bar-like. On the other side of the wall sits the restaurant, very quaint and well appointed. In the right season there is tons of outdoor seating and a fire pit, unfortunately when we were there it was not that season. Service is top notch; really nice people making sure you have exactly what you need. If you're running the Fruit Loop or trying to bypass nasty weather in the Gorge by heading out 26 and up 35 past the ice zones this is a great place to stop for a break. Stopped here on the way home from Mt. Hood. Grabbed a couple of pizzas to go and they were sooo good! Loved the chicken ranch! Wished we could've enjoyed the pizza in their outdoor area as it looked really inviting but we were in a rush. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Government Camp. read more

I must say, this is the BEST PIZZA I EVER HAD! I take everyone who comes from out of town to Saw Tooth to taste their delicious Pizza. I love all of them! The ingredients on the pizza always taste fresh, the slices are big and it is delicious. There are things that could be improved like the salads, they lack freshness and appeal to them, The last time I went, I ordered the Caesar salad and I was disappointed. BUT the pizza is delicious, the nachos are pretty good as well and the breadsticks are very good as well. Not sure if they make their own ranch dressing but it is DELICIOUS! I wish they wouldn't charge extra for it but I do love it and it is worth the extra charge. What I really enjoy about this place is how amazingly nice the service is! Every time I go, they always greet us with a smile and make us feel very welcomed! I would recommend this place to anyone who loves pizza. read more

If I only cared about good pizza I would rate higher...but for $90, I expect good service instead of the waitress acting put out by our party of 6. We were coming down the mountain and wanted some good pizza. We have been here before and thought it was pretty good- so why not? we ordered 2 specialty pizzas that were expensive but good. Husband and I had a couple beers. Each of my children requested their own little order of ranch. We were shocked we saw we were charged $1.50 for each order of ranch (1.50x5 ) even after ordering the big pizzas. I also noticed we were charged full price for beer though it was happy hour. I brought it to the server's attention and also voiced my dissatisfaction about the ranch. She took a $1 off of each beer but disregarded everything else I said. More of an annoyance than anything. We are from Portland and have lots of choices. I will think twice next time. read more

My husband and I went here on a whim while doing the "fruit loop" drive in Hood River and Parkdale. We have been there 2-3 times now and it's great every time. I have to eat gluten free and they have the BEST GF pizza I have ever had. I am also extremely sensitive & have never gotten sick from cross contamination. My hysband loves their sandwiches, ribs, etc... And they have a great beer selection, even GF, I think--I haven't ordered it but I think I saw it on the menu. Best part is the owner. He is friendly, hard working, and remembers his customers. He really appreciates your business. The decor is a little dated, but the service, charm, and superb food more than make up for it. Its close to my home in Mt Hood and is under new management so I thought I would check it out this weekend. Pleasantly surprised. The new owners turned around the poor service from previous ownership and have changed up the menu. Pizza to go is affordable and tasty, they have a few beers on tap, including the local Cloud Cap, and you can get the beer to go, a plus. They also have salads, sandwiches, typical appetizers, a bar separate from the main restaurant, all in all a nice clean place. All in all affordable and good food, nice family atmosphere. read more

Came in with on Sunday afternoon a large group of 20 with no notice and the staff kicked ass!! The food was amazing, I had the French dip, one of the best au jus ever! Also tasted one of the artichoke topped pizzas, also spectacular! They served us as quickly as they could, kept the drinks coming and were incredibly accommodating. The covered outside seating provided plenty of space for our large group and had another good sized sitting area further back that was quite cozy and gave even more room to spread out. I chose this place ahead of time as we were motorcycle riding on the fruit loop and wanted a spot to stop and Lunch and the reviews were stellar and said there was outdoor seating. This went beyond my expectations and will definitely be a place we will visit again. I apologize for not giving notice of our stop in ahead of time, not that they needed it tho. The great pizza here is what will bring me back. You can build your own pizza, but I was happy they had a few veggie specials. The pesto pizza definitely hit the spot. There are two sections to this place: a bar and a "family" area. When I was day-tripping in the area, the bar was full and lively, but we wanted the peace and quiet the family area afforded. (Swerves) We landed at this spot right off the side of highway bordered by an immense row of lumber that indicated this is DEFINITELY lumber country. We were the first to walk in for lunch, and the bartender made us some beer suggestions. We timidly ordered our sandwiches, wondering if this is a deleted scene from deliverance: the gay bashing part. We could not have been more wrong. First, the bartender (turns out owner) was beyond friendly, and when my husband added that we were on our honeymoon, the owner bought us EACH a fudge brownie (old-school JIF goodness, like mom used to make). His beer recommendation was also on-the-money. But the sandwiches! The sandwiches are everything. Soooo freakin good! I had the meatloaf sandwich, my husband the meatball. Both were toasted on the outside of the bun, and were downright yummy on the inside. If you make a drive past this place, make sure to stop for lunch. What a great surprise! read more

4 stars for takeout pizza, 3 overall. Pizza is really good... I love the goodfella and the chicken BBQ in particular. The service is pretty variable. 2 of the last 3 pizzas we ordered they got wrong, but since we had a few beers at home before eating our takeout pizza we enjoyed it anyway. Very annoying that they got it wrong but that is how I was introduced to the chicken pizza which now is among my favorites... So go figure. It's a good super informal place to have a casual dinner out. Most of the business appears to be in the bar so the dining room is never crowded. They have good local wine and beers, and the full bar as well. Service can be a little spotty at times, and it's definitely a down home atmosphere. I stopped by the Saw Tooth as part of a motorcycle rally/tour for a late lunch. The restaurant is set back from the road a bit and you have to anticipate the turn or else you will drive right by (from the south). The business is divided between a bar and the restaurant. I typically enjoy places like this and was looking forward to eating. The menu is heavily slanted towards pizza. Other reviews here describe the great pizza. I thought that would be a bit heavy and decided to try the carnitas tacos. I was not disappointed. The pork was tasty and the texture was good. The mango salsa was very good and complimented the pork. I even enjoyed the black beans! My only suggestion would be to figure out how to make the corn tortillas a little more tender. They were not bad, but I have had better. Over all, the meal was superb. The atmosphere is a bit divey - that's not a knock. I enjoy this style of restaurant. Parking was ample and there looked to be an outdoor seating area available when the weather cooperates. The owner was very friendly and thanked me for stopping by. Had beer and pizza at this unassuming roadhouse this evening. Nice crowd, ice motorcycling on the tube and ice cold IRA delivered in hardly anytime. Lovely. The pizza ordered showed up piping hot and was delicious. We ate what we could and took a go box for tomorrow's trip to Montana. Excellent service rounded out a not to be missed pizza experience. I was on the Fruit Loop tour with two of my girlfriends, and the Sawtooth happened to be at the halfway point on our journey. When we got there, we were a bit weary because it's right in front of a big logging operation and the exterior leaves a bit to be desired. We walked in for our late lunch and were greeted by a friendly, tall guy named Jay. He was a delight and gave us the royal treatment. He's the kind of waiter you hope for when you're in the middle of nowhere; he joked with us, was attentive, and made us feel right at home. The pizza is really good. We got the White and the Hitch Hiker pies. The house salad is also delicious. The only regret I have is that we didn't sit in the bar. The staff was fun loving and did a good job and it would have been fun to talk with them more. Jay warmly invited us to come see him again and I truly hope we get to do that. read more

This was a really fun little place! We pulled in on our way to a vineyard, not knowing what to expect. But Saw Tooth Roadhouse was a pleasant surprise. It wasn't very crowded so service was really fast, and Doug was friendly and chatted with us about the area. The restaurant was really cute, with interesting art, photos, etc. on the walls. Lots of stuff about big foot :) The outside was actually the loveliest outdoor seating area I've ever seen, with colorful lawn chairs, lawn games, a patio strung with lights, big shady trees, and bohemian-looking curtain type things blowing in the breeze. A beautiful glacial stream runs right by it. The whole setup was very familiar and inviting. The food was good too, even though it was pretty basic stuff. None of us had pizza so we can't speak to that, but my pulled pork sandwich was tasty and warm, no complaints here. Overall, the whole experience was really pleasant and inviting. If I lived in the area, I'd visit Saw Tooth Roadhouse frequently. read more
