This is a small mom and pop shop (actually I think it might be a pop and son shop), and they are super friendly. There's an old dude who doesn't do much, but is always cute and nice. Then there's the middle aged guy who is also very nice, and he's the one who does the repairs. They do auto glass and windows and probably anything else glass related. I went in to get a new windshield and they did it in about 3 hours. And when a piece of the plastic caulkish stuff that goes in between the glass and the car started coming up, I went back in and they were super sorry and fixed it in like 5 minutes. I recently returned home from a family reunion to find a bullet had made its way through the rear window of my 1990 truck, shattering it before ultimately coming to rest in the back seat. I was shocked when the police officer who I filed a report with matter-of-factly told me that the bullet probably came from Detroit - more than a half mile south of my home. He hypothesized that someone had decided to shoot their 45-caliber handgun into the air. "What comes up must come down," he said. Nice, I thought. Even better was the fact that my insurance company would not cover this. I called around to several glass shops in the area. The model of my truck is not common in these parts, and compounded by its age, I was told by all shops that a special order would have to be made which would ultimately end up costing more than a decent fraction of the value of my truck. I was fortunate enough to channel my inner hillbilly and find a suitable rear window at a junk yard in Detroit. Side note: I 'spose I've finally earned my Detroit pass after driving to a junk yard with a bullet hole in my window. Being the complete criminal scam that car insurance is, my company would not cover it so I was in the game for the cheapest, quickest fix I could find. When I told the guys at Ferndale City Glass that I'd found a replacement window, they told me to bring it in and they'd install it for $65. The bottom of the replacement junk yard window was rusted out and they were actually able to salvage certain parts from the original window to make it all work better than new - in less than an hour. I was beyond impressed. So all said and done, my surprise lesson in trajectory and gravity only ended up costing me about $165 rather than more than $300 which is what I was expecting based on quotes I had received. This a great family owned business which has been in the area for more than half a century. They know what they are doing. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs glass repair done in the Ferndale area. read more

They don't replace windshields anymore. I called to get a quote for mine, and the owner informed me that since his arms are "messed up", they stopped doing windshield repairs or replacements. They still do side and rear windows, though. I would have added this as a 'tip' instead of a review, but apparently tips are now only for restaurants and bars. That said, as a non-customer, they get 4 stars for a prompt, informative answer over the phone while still sounding friendly and personable. read more

The window in our side door shattered at 7 pm and we weren't sure what to do. After calling two big glass companies the next day who told us it would be two weeks, we found this company. He knew exactly what we needed and was there within a couple hours. He was efficient, affordable, knowledgable and friendly! Would definitely use him again in the future. read more

I have gone to Ferndale City Glass many times for our small business. I really like to use this business because the people are very friendly and fast. Also I have found that their prices are very good in comparison to other shops. The owner is a very lovely gentleman who I believe has his son-in-law working for him. I have been going to Ferndale Glass for years. From simple custom-cut pane glass (broken window in Ferndale) to tempered glass (broken window in Pleasant Ridge) to huge custom made 300 square foot sealed tempered units, including installation (current house in Bloomfield), these guys know it all and do it all. Always knowledgeable, always nice, and the kind of people that make you feel good about spending your money with them. Finally, their service, including installation, is top-notch. Spending extra time end effort to make sure a large install got done on time. Ferndale glass couldn't be any better! read more

I received a few quotes with varying prices and couldn't decide, therefore I also did a Google search of reviews of the various places to help me make my decision of where to take my vehicle. GP, which is 45 mins away from my home, and an hour in traffic from my work, quoted me a flat rate with parts and labor included, which was $20 more than a shop in my neighborhood. The removal and install was fast, and the gentleman was very professional. My bill was actually $20 more than the flat rate quoted. Therefore, I ended up paying $40 more than I would have paid had I gone to a local shop, 1hour 45 mins driving, and a 1/4 tank of gas. Pricey lesson learned. However, I'm grateful that my windshield is fixed before winter. I recommend this location for folks who live in the area. It's clean with a comfortable waiting room. Also, if you're low in cash, make sure you know that "flat rate" doesn't mean the same to everyone. Use the Project tool to receive quotes, etc, but do extra homework and know exactly how much a service will cost you in exact pricing, considering your travel (gas) expenses, and time when comparing.

They said they would look at it and get it fixed up. I dropped it off on a Monday morning and on Friday they were calling me telling me the car was still missing a piece but they wanted me to pick it up anyway (yeah I'm not picking up an incomplete car just to fit their time quotas). They suddenly had the back ordered part it was missing a few minutes later and were able to complete it so I went and picked it up that Friday. The alignment was still off from first driving it away but I decided to have my dealership fix it when i went in for an oil change a few weeks later figuring they'd do a better job anyway. At the dealer I was told that my car still had a bent axel arm from the accident, something that them running an alignment immediately told them. So my question is did Minsers completely miss the $1700 of damage this was or did they find it and decide it wasn't important enough to fix (I'm not sure which is worse). I then called my insurance company and they told me I had to take my car back to Minsers despite my objections. I took the car back the day after the dealer found the damage and was told they would get it fixed up. After I had dropped it off I got a call from them informing me there were allegedly scratches on my wheel insinuating I had further damaged the vehicle not related to the accident. I'm not sure what was going on with that or what they were trying to pull but I obviously had not damaged my vehicle and the call ended with that. I got my car back today and it appears to be fixed and driving like new again which I appreciate (and expect). I looked at all of my wheels and there are no scratches to be found which is interesting to me as there we're supposed "fresh" scratches on a wheel. All in all yes my car is now fixed after bringing it to them twice. They seemed to use genuine GM parts which is also a positive. Although I felt as if they were trying to take advantage of me and possibly scam me due to me being a young woman and not knowledgeable about cars. The owner is very nice and even had my car cleaned up for me when I came to pick it up. I would recommend this place to anyone.

When I got home, I was finally able to take it in, and was told that I had a cracked wheel. The next day at work, I was griping to a couple friends about how much this was likely to cost and they both suggested that I go to a junkyard. I had always heard about junkyards, but had never been to one. When I checked the yellow pages, I was happy to see that there was one so close to me and decided to go check it out. Boy, am I glad I did! Price at Discount Tire - $155; price at Ryan's Junkyard - $85, plus a $10 rebate for giving them the cracked wheel. It was a pretty cool experience, too. It is in the ghetto (8 Mile & Wyoming) but if you don't mind that its a definite gold mine. All the people are super friendly and helpful - and trilingual. They've got a whole yard plus a couple warehouses of scrapped cars and salvaged parts, so you can find pretty much anything you need at a good price. Now that I know where this is, and am familiar with how it works, I will definitely go here whenever I need anything in the future.

It was a bit slow between the first phone call and me takingit in, but I think that's due to the dealership taking a long time to get the glass. It kept cracking after the new mirror was installed! It took 3 tries before they could figure out it was a screw that was slightly proud of the frame. They repaired that mirror 3 times, AND repaired the frame, and only charged me what they had originally estimated when they picked the door up on day 1. I'm amazed and very happy to get this kind of excellent service. Professional, quality workmanship, skilled, polite, honest,... I couldn't ask for anything more.
