A month ago my friend and I were just checking out Ferndale town and popping into every store on Main Street. Ferndale meat was one of them. We were intrigued by the store front how everything was a flashback in time. From the taxidermy to the meat lockers. A lady in the front popped up with excitement and said we could check out the meat in the back. We were like.... Hell yea and got to take selfies! I came in today and the same lady greeted me and asked what I was looking for. I said red meat, but not sure which. She came around the front case and showed me all the good stuff. I walked out with about 6lbs of New York steak. She sliced them for me and asked if I wanted them seasoned. I was like.., excuse me? I've never ever been asked that. Of course I said YES!!! I'm glad it wasn't my sandwich but it literally made me so uncomfortable seeing that I almost left before I had to pay. We are staying in town and have access to a BBQ. We knew we wanted something from Ferndale Meats. We were treated as soon as we walked in. My wife stated we wanted some rib eyes. After confirming the amount and how thick of a cut we wanted, we were asked if we wanted the meat seasoned. YES PLEASE !! The girl grabbed the meat and took it back to be cut. We were "helped" by the not-so-helpful employee behind the counter that was glued to her phone and had little to no knowledge of their products. We asked how their sausage was prepared and her response was "the seasoning is really yellow... I don't really know what it is honestly... but it's SO good!" ... Uhh, ok? Nice friendly old school meat market that we saw on Triple D. We stopped in on the way out of Eureka and grabbed some Italian Sausage, and Oops #19 and also saw some hot dogs in the case and bought a pack of those as well. So far we have cooked the Italian sausages and they were the best that I have ever had. They are absolutely no comparison to store bought like Johnsons or New York and even better then the ones I recently purchased from the Italian Deli out here in the Bay. I really love the way this place looks. It is all old-fashioned and authentic, and I'm pretty sure thats the way it looked when it was first built. The meat locker is a real-deal meat locker with cows hanging from hooks. All local, grass-fed beef and most of it is bought from 4-H kids from the area so I though that was pretty cool. I've only had the sandwiches ( I recommend the mortadella) but I am excited to try their cuts of meat to see how it compares to grass-fed at the Co-op. read more

We stopped for sandwiches at about 3:30 on a Friday afternoon. Wow. This hit the spot. The sandwiches are made to order. It isn't fancy - just basics but the ingredients are so GOOD. This isn't a regular run of the mill deli. This is a real meat shop. The pastrami had a slight smokey flavor - yum. The cheese was wonderful too. I'm sure it must have been local. Make sure you have plenty of napkins. The only thing to watch for is the mustard. It is good but unless you're a huge mustard fan ask for it to be on the light side.
