Business-wise, the older Bob was always missing something each time I visited. When I was a socially awkward newbie biker back in 2011, he lacked patience and courtesy. I'm not sure what question I asked but I had to repeat myself a couple of times and I remembered feeling like an idiot afterwards. The next time I needed something later that year I went all the way Arnold's on 8th Ave because I thought the guys at Ferrara would be annoyed to see me. Other memorable events: In 2013 I needed my front bike tube changed and now that I was a bit more seasoned and confident, I went back to Ferrara's. Price for the tube and replacement was within range of what I expected but the turnaround was not-- like 1-2 days and I was impatient lol. Thanks to that experience, I learned how to replace a tube myself that day. In 2019 I needed a back spoke replaced and both wheels trued. They were friendly this time but there was another issue-- this time they lacked urgency. I wanted it done ASAP and was willing to pay more for it but I was informed alas that there were a bunch of jobs ahead of mine so it would be ready overnight at the soonest. That might've been believable but Bob and the other guy there weren't actually servicing any bikes and just chatting when I came in. The good thing that came from that experience? It took me around two hours and I got my hands dirty but I learned to replace spokes and true wheels myself later that day. IMO this isn't really a business so much as it is post-retirement social gig. And power to Bob! I could only dream of being in a well-enough economic position to do what he does. read more

I came here to get my bike assembled since I didn't have the correct tools. All they had to do was tighten the brakes and handle bar. The guy charged me $40 just to do two things. I didn't expect it to be that much since all the parts was attached. The guy was rude and wasn't friendly at all. I had no choice but to pay $40. read more

I am still mad with this cycle shop and here I am writing this review at 5 in the morning. I brought a brand new bike to the shop for basic tune up. The owner seems friendly, but the work he did was totally ridiculous. 1. The front brake was not tightened at all. I brought it back immediately and the owner tightened it. How can you miss the brake for a tune up? 2. A few low gears are not shifting smoothly. The chain is also rubbing on the front derailleur cage and making noise. The tail is too far inward and making the gears shifting poorly. The bike chain derailed in a few minutes and I brought it back again. The owner gave me a "Oh You again, stupid noob" face. It's not helping when another old guy there telling me to read a manual. So I left as I didn't want to be embarrassed for being new to cycling. I went back home and adjusted the cable tension after watching a few youtube videos and fixed the gear shifting issue. 3. Both of the pedals were not tightened. I rode it for less than 15 minutes and the right pedal broke. Half of the thread is damaged and the crankset is toasted. I checked the left pedal. It's loose as well. I didn't give him a time limit or make any request. I was nice and I even asked if he wanted me to pay first. I just don't understand how can he did his job so poorly. It's almost like the owner was trying to kill me for no reason. Seriously, WTF? If I know how to fix a bike, why would I spend my hard earned $40 for a tune up? Not to mention now I need to get a new crankset and probably need to spend at least $50 to get it repaired. My wife said I should bring the bike back and ask for refund, but I really don't feel like arguing with the old man. So, if you want some cheap parts and accessories, you may try this bike shop. I would stay very far away for repair/tuneup even it's in my neighborhood. I ll be back for another tune up when I need to commit suicide. read more

For my 100th review I've decided to give a redeeming one. I came in here on a BEAUTIFUL Saturday afternoon during Memorial Day weekend after attempting to get my bike tuned up at the very busy Bicycle Station in downtown Brooklyn. I called Ferrara's after being told my bike wouldn't be ready until Tuesday (due to high volume) at the Bicycle Station and the owner told me to bring it in and he'd have it out in 40 minutes. Sure enough he installed a new tube, two new tires, and adjusted my gears for me in no time. Charged me $20 (I previously bought the tires elsewhere) and I was ready to ride. Service was fine - he even let me know that I could have gotten the tires at his shop for the same price I got them on Amazon (which made me feel a little bad - I prefer to help out the little guys), but that I made a good choice when it came to the tires I got. I'd definitely recommend Ferrara's to others and next time my bike needs some adjusting I'll be happy to bring it back. read more

i love this neighborhood shop. I suggest patience, because there are Veteran's that are still working to help the neighborhood bicycle community. Too many questions and i confused myself, so i patiently wait for an employee to ask me a question and the problem is fixed much better and faster in return. Prices are matched or lower than Amazon. Today I have seen a shiny gold tandem bicycle. The man had a vintage Honda motorcycle at one point. The place is great and you may meet a lot of different good people. Went in looking for a used bike, or ideas on how to make my current bike work for me. There were two guys in the back watching a movie when I came in. They didnt see me at first, then Bob (Ferrara) got up to help me. I have a single-gear cruiser w a coaster brake, it is heavy and slow and doesnt stop very quickly (hurts my knees too). He doesn't sell used bikes anymore, so I asked about putting a handbrake on my bike. He said "Your bike already has a brake." as if he thought I was being nonsensical. I was disappointed in his lack of interest in helping me problem-solve. That's something I look for in a bike shop... ideas, options. I never got the brake since I wanted to think up other solutions or see some bikes first, so I can't speak to the quality of work. I did think it was annoying that he couldn't do anything until tomorrow. He even said "pick it up tomorrow" to someone for a tube change, though he was just watching a movie. Not the friendliest service I've seen. Apart from that, I came in for a minor adjustment on the seat and rear brakes. I probably should have checked on the work done. I had to come to this place sometimes for a flat. It's really the only place around Bensonhurst. I do feel though its been hit or miss with the owner. Sometimes, if its a small thing like a flat, its been very easy to fix. Other times, if there are other questions, problems, then there may be some hesitation. If you're in need of something small, come here. That's my suggestion. Also, I would like to add, I've never detected any sort of racism from the owner. I called the store on a Sunday morning looking to purchase an innertube for my mountain bike. I asked for the cost of it and the gentleman said $6. I then asked if they could change the innertube for me and he responded, "Yes." I asked if there was a charge for it and he said, "No. We can do it for you. All you need to do is buy the innertube and he can do that for you." I stopped by with my tire and told the gentlemen at the store that I called earlier inquiring about the innertube. He said that it can be picked up within the hour. I once again asked regarding the cost of the innertube and if there was any fee for changing it for me before I left. He said, "It'll be $6." I came back in 30 minutes to pick it up ready to give the $6 when he said the cost is now $12. Shocked, I asked what happened to just $6 he said earlier? To that, he said nothing but that he won't charge me tax; all 45 cents of it. Buyer Beware! I am not sure I will go back to this shop because of this experience. All I can say is that if you do decide to do business with this shop, make sure everything is in writing. read more

I was visiting my grandsons and one had a bike that was not working I took the bike to Ferraras bike store. They replaced the tubes and tires and adjusted the brakes the bike looked and worked like new. The price for all his was so inexpensive I asked if he made a mistake. I would recommend Ferraras for a such a good job even my grandson noticed.e read more

I brought my bike in for a tune up. When I walked in to pick it up, my bike was suspended high up on a wall by metal brackets that were clamped deep into the body. It looked like it was about to snap the bike in two. I didn't like the idea that it could have been scratching my bike up, but I remained patient. When he said, nothing's wrong with the clamps and brought my bike down, I saw that that not only was it scratched, the bar was deeply dented where the clamps were. I was furious to see how reckless they could be with a bike that was in otherwise mint condition. I regretted taking there so much. I always took good care of my bike, and there wasn't even a scratch on it until I brought it in to "improve" its condition. The tune up was a joke. And I couldn't talk to them about it because they dismissed me as if I knew nothing about how bikes need to be tuned up or handled. read more

I have been going to Ferrara's since the 70's this is an old time bike shop and has been in business for 80 years. I don't think they ever changed the prices either LOL very resonable. I have seen on many occassions Bob do repairs for nothing and fix bikes for kides that other bikes shops would not even bother with. Yesterday when I was there finding some old parts for a rebuild , an asain woman came in with an old beat up bike with the brake assembly haging in the breeze and Bob had her on the road in minuetes, when she asked how much ? Bob said no charge, have a nice ride. You have to luv this guy. He has advised helped and fixed my builds on every bike project I have done from custom , tandem, mountain, race and now my WWII bicycles. His knowledge base is amazing. He is one of the most generous people I know and takes better care of his cats than most people do there children. He is a talented wood worker,builder, designer, computer genius , and could fix anythink . I have see him do repairs in less time than it takes people to get there money out of there wallet. I love the old time Mom and Pop stores, they have character, history and a sensce of family in every one. read more

I called and went today to this bike shop after reading reviews. The gentleman was very pleasant and helpful. I needed a tune up on my bike. He assisted me right away and fixed the issues I had within 30 mins. He was very pleasant to deal with. My son has also used this shop in the past for repairs of his bike and also his jogging stroller. I am happy they are close enough since the one near me closed down. read more
