I'm rebranding AJ bikes as a magic shop. Really. They did a phenomenal transformation on a bike I was given. A little history ........ I spent my 20's road biking through the mountains in Colorado and working as a bike messenger in both Denver and NYC. I've always preferred slick quick "pizza cutter" style bikes and worked/commuted on a fixed gear. Fast forward 20 relatively bike less years to the midst of a pandemic making mass transport impossible and I was given a mountain bike. It was a very kind gesture, but nothing I'd ever choose in a million years and extremely uncomfortable to ride. I was bracing myself for the unfortunate condescension that sometimes comes from repair shops, but Adrian and Jose talked to me about my biking history and preferences in terms of comfort and maneuverability. Within an afternoon they lovingly (and jokingly) transformed my clunker into something that's simply a pleasure to ride. I've built plenty of my own bikes in my life and am 100% comfortable endorsing not only their technical skill, but their attentive and thoughtful suggestions. Beyond that, I had the pleasure of watching their interactions with customers from all ages, races, and sexual orientations during the time I waited (yes they finished a total custom overhaul while i waited!), and EVERYONE was treated with the same honesty, good humor and respect. This is one of those unassuming down home places you wander into once by chance and end up being a customer for life. Prices are VERY reasonable, service is quick, and these guys are just the type of people you prefer to give business to ....... even if there's another place closer. Thanks AJ ! read more

To begin, they are the shop open latest in the area so I had time to go after work (Very convenient)! I got there 20 min before closing and not once did they make me feel rushed or not valued. So happy they are close by! They fixed my Trek which was in horrendous shape last summer, and they continue to give me excellent service each time I stop by to inflate a tire or buy something I need. It's a small shop so their inventory is limited but they are polite, reasonable and so much nicer than the bike guys with big attitudes that I once went to in Williamsburg. This is a big plus for the neighborhood. They will be getting all my business. read more

While this shop may be versed on how to fix bikes, they fall far beyond measure on customer service. When people decide to own businesses in my neighborhood to gain wealth off of us at the very least I'd expect to be respected and valued as a potential customer. Sadly Jose's attitude was appalling, as he failed to deliver what he promised, to have my bike ready at 11am and offering not an apology but rather a disrespectful tone and commentary of "listen it's not ready and either you're gonna wait for it or not"...I'd say NOT. Learn how to respect people, own your mistakes and value my dollar or go somewhere else! I've been living here for over 40 years, my roots are in Bedstuy and as I travel within my many circles and organizations I will be sure to share that this business does not live up to our standards of quality customer service practices nor do they respect the value of people's time. read more
