Honest people. Had the chance to oversell us a service twice but it wasn't needed and they were truthful enough to say so.

I've been going to Ferrell's Auto Repair for seven years straight, and that should tell you how much I trust these guys. Up until recently, I'd never even broken down in my car. But then last month, it happened twice in three weeks--first time was my old radiator finally giving out, and the second time was a brake issue. Both times were terrible timing, and I really needed my car back fast. Even without an appointment, they fit me in, got the parts quickly, and had me back on the road way faster than I expected. That kind of service under pressure is rare. I was so grateful that they understood the predicament I was in and they, as per usual, took great care of me. Bottom line: I've always felt totally comfortable with the work they do, and it's always a pleasure dealing with everyone there. Ferrell's is the real deal. Did a very nice job with servicing both our cars for oil changes. They could have adjusted the brake by giving me a quick call for authorization while it was there but left that for another appointment (which is a 60 mile round trip) and another half day out of our busy schedule. read more

I had a loud noise of unknown origin coming from under my car. I was a walk-in and even though the shop was busy and had no open appointments, ED agreed to look under my car, found a potential source of the noise, and tried a quick and safe remedy. Alas the noise came back a little later. When I called back I was told they had no open spaces until Monday, maybe. I had to drive to Los Angeles on Tuesday, and was worried if it would be safe. I was told that if any of the racks freed up and if there was a technician free to help that I would get a call. I did. I went. The got the car up on the rack, ruled out anything major, found another potential source, and so far, so good. There was no charge the first time, and the second was around $35. They also spotted that there was screw stuck in one of my tires, and me where I could go to fix it. Kind, patient, reasonable, prompt, affordable folks. Could not ask for more. Do not take your car here to get smogged!! They couldn't take the time to figure out that my new catalytic converter was perfectly fine, there had been changes to part numbers, which they couldn't take the time to figure out and I was denied passing smog. read more

I've been to Ferrell's Auto Repair twice this year and have been very impressed by the quality neighborhood customer service vibe they provide. I've already recommended their services to all of my friends as THE auto repair shop to go to in North County. Here's why you should check them out: - You cannot beat how neighborly their customer service is. It makes me feel like I'm back at home in the Bay Area going to my regular shop. They're personable to a point, friendly and accommodating and they really guide you through the process of what's going on with your car. I never felt like I didn't know what was going on. I never had to ask because they always kept me well-informed. - They have reasonable prices for the area. I've had my alternator fixed by them and the price they quoted me for was exactly what I expected an alternator cost. Unfortunately in my case they had to order a rebuilt alternator, but the quote for the overall repair remained the same. - Sometimes when I take a car into a shop a few days later I'll start having all kinds of problems with the car. This has happened to me several times in my life. Not with Ferrell's. I find them to be very diligent and thorough with their repairs. This also shows in when they report to you what's going on with your car. This really makes me feel comfortable bringing my car into them because I feel like I'm getting quality work for a good price. So.. yeah. so, to me the mechanic is a place I hate to go. maintaining a vehicle is expensive and unfortunately I was never trained much in how cars run. I find I'm never sure if I'm getting a fair shake in terme of pricing and quantity of work. I asked my friend who is a mechanic to check out my truck, he told me what was wrong. My best friend recommended that I take my cars here to get my smog done. It is their specialty. I made an appointment and for as old as the car was they recommended a test to make sure it passed. So glad they did because it did not pass and had to get some work done first. Being a female raised by a mechanic, I know more than your average bear about cars and what is probably wrong with mine when it has problems. After dealing with another Atascadero shop who tried to sell me $1700 dollars worth of repairs, but couldn't answer my basic questions (like what code their reader showed as the reason my check engine light was on), I was distraught about getting my car repaired and smogged without being ripped off. Ferrell's was recommended by a few people I trust, so I tried them. This shop is SUPERB! They listen to my explanations, treat me like the intelligent woman I am, and go out of their way to get me back on the road quickly with the smallest bill possible! The $1700 worth of repairs the other shop said I needed? Hah! Ferrell's repaired my Subaru and performed the smog, successfully, for $185! Today I realized the power steering pump is going out... Before discovering Ferrell's, I would have replaced it myself to protect myself from possible dishonesty or shoddy work, but now that I have Ferrell's on my side I will hire them to do it. read more

My family has been coming here for years. I took my new car to Triple A in Timonium and 6 months later, it is still breaking down and not moving after it starts. After $2,000 in "repairs" from Triple A, I regret not just going with my gut to go to Ferrell's. Everyone here is kind and genuinely concerned about me and the state of my car. I can't say enough good about this place. The cars I have taken here rarely had issues and one of them was a 96. I'm talking 16 years old. Now, I have a newer car that I've let other people work on and I have been towed 7 times this year. If you come here, trust that you are in good hands. I have now had several repairs done to two different vehicles at Ferrell's and a number of smog tests. (My issues were mainly related to high mileage and things just wearing out like front wheel bearings, water pump, disk brake pads, and such.) This is a first class operation in every way. It might be a trite term to say they "check all the boxes", but they do. Superb communication and updates. Work is done fast and well. They look around for other things to warn you about and suggest, but never try to pad the job with unnecessary work. I have an American pickup truck and a Japanese car and they have experts and lots of experience in both. I had a great multi-year relationship with a shop in SLO but sadly they closed. I was looking for one in Atascadero as good or better, and found it in Ferrell's Automotive. Strongly recommend. read more

These guys are terrific. Had a vacuum leak and they diagnosed a broken input manifold. Chrysler want about 3 grand for part. Ferrells did the online research and told me to buy a part on eBay. Total cost to me was under $420. Totally trust these people. read more

Ferrell's saved the day! I took my truck to the Ford Dealer in SLO for a problem with random engine failure. They couldn't figure out what the issue was after having it for the weekend. I decided to try a local repair shop and called Ferrell's, who came highly recommended. While I couldnt get in for 5 days, it was worth the wait. They called and got permission to work further on the problem, and eventually discovered the cause. They had it diagnosed and repaired by the end of the day. Awesome! I didn't believe in an honest mechanic, but Ferrell's is as good as it gets! I took my car a while back somewhere else to see why the check engine light was on. With them they found out the "problem" in a few minutes. With Ferrell's they took the time they needed to run all the tests and find out exactly what the problem was. Yep, these guys are good. In a somewhat hidden location off of the main El Camino drag, located beside a motorcycle repair shop, rests Ferrell's Auto shop. Their main claim to fame is their smog check service, but they are a full service mechanic's shop, or do they call it technician's shop now? (please don't fine me PC police). Ferrell's has been in Atascadero for a long time and have built up a loyal following, just check out the other reviews here, by consistently being Honest guys when it comes to what's wrong with your vehicle. And they will go the extra mile for you as well, often suggesting solutions that cost you less than all your other quotes. They've helped me out with several different cars and trucks over the years and have always done great work at a fair price. I really can't recommend this shop highly enough, and if you think you can get a smog check cheaper somewhere else, just know that most of the other auto shops in the area all use Ferrell's for their smog check clients as well. read more
