I was on a roadtrip with my kids and our dog and was passing through Atascadero when my car overheated and broke down. I called several workshops and Mike Dean offered to take look. From that point onwards it was a 10 star service. I cannot be thankful enough to Mike, Jonathan and Dominic who diagnosed the problem at 3:45 pm on a Friday. Mike not only ordered the parts right then (engine thermostat, fan clutch, etc) but also had Jonathan drive me to a couple of hotels with my luggage, kids and dog and wait while we checked into a hotel we liked. Jonathan worked on my car that evening and the rest of the following day - a Saturday, and kept me posted via SMS and even came to to the hotel to show me bad head gaskets destroyed and unusable that were hard to find for my vehicle. He not only was able to find new ones at 5 pm on a Saturday, he worked on it till 9:30 pm to put everything back together and brought the car back to the hotel so we could continue our journey. He gave me all the old parts in a box if I wanted to check them out! This workshop and it's staff were god sent in a small town. Their professionalism, honesty, integrity and quality of work is unheard of in these times and I am thankful to Mike Dean and his crew. Thats not all of it! Once I took possession of the car, I asked for the invoice. It was almost 10 pm on a Saturday. I was told not to worry about it, drive home and Mike will call me on Monday to settle the bill. Whoa! Is this place and its owner for real? Old school, old world, honorable business. Nothing short. I cannot begin to describe the respect I have for these folks. I've been living on the central coast for over 3 years now. My husband and I both own cars with more than 100,000 miles on them. I've been to several different repair shops and always left feeling overcharged and like I couldn't trust what I was being told. A visit to Mike's shop change all of that! We had been putting off some repairs because we had been saving to buy a house. When we were finally settled and feeling considerably poorer from our downpayment I set out looking for someone to look at our poor neglected cars. Mike's shop is close to our new place so I figured I'd check him out. I called and he had same day availability. When I got to the shop he was friendly and soft spoken. There were several issues I needed looked at including a oil leak, an oil change, and a weird smell. He was able to easily diagnose the issues and he charged me a little over $100 for all of that. I couldn't get my oil changed that cheaply! He also took care of my husbands car which had bigger issues but we were still very satisfied with the price and the work he did. He really engaged us in a conversation about what our options were and what he thought were priority fixes. We will only be taking our cars to Mike from now on. He took care of us, he came and picked up the car from my house and replaced the brakes at his shop then delivered it back when he was done. I highly recommend Mike Dean. My alternator had gone bad and my regular auto repair shop was closed for health reasons and unknown when they would reopen. I had called and alternative shop but they were getting all the business from my regular shop and couldn't get my car in for a week. So, I was stuck. The car still had barely enough juice to run me a mile or so, so I felt alright going to my dental appt. So I drove to it. But the appt. was cancelled and when I went out to my car, it wouldn't start. A guy stopped and gave me a jump. When I told him the problem he told me that he worked for an auto repair shop and that his boss could probably get the job done that day. The guy, I forget his name, said he'd follow me to the shop to make sure I'd get there okay. I work the NOC shift and my wife and son had their cars at work and school so I didn't have a ride. The owner, Mike Dean, gave me a ride home so I could sleep. My car was repaired as promised, that same day, which happened to be a Friday!! That was a couple months ago. My alternator went out again and I called Mike. He was busy that day, but he told me to bring it in and leave it and he'd get to it the next day. He did and I had my car in a few hours. I was not able to get it Friday so I told them I could pick it up Monday. I drove by the shop on Saturday because it was near my house, and noticed the shop door open. Well what can I say about my old mechanic Ex buddy mike? Ive known mike for 15 years since he was a mobile mechanic in the Torrance area . I first hired him to do the rear brakes on my van back then and he did a great job. Ive had him do many other repairs for me since then and was very happy. Recently called him to do some work on van while he was in town during the Christmas holiday. My van had blown head gaskets/ Cracked heads. He offered to do the job for $1200 I thought that sounded great. Anyhow after the removal of the heads we decided to just buy new heads which cost me $500 plus another $100 for the gasket set etc. At this point Im thinking I don't care I need my van back and am going to be paying the $1200 on top for the labor. NP. Only thing is he never finished the job correctly and I have already paid him and he wont return my calls. Van is running like crap!!!! The timing and or the vacuum lines are all wrong!!! The dipstick was never put all the way back into the engine block. Oh and I had him check and adjust my rear brake pads. Now the brakes feel tight but are grabbing worse than ever. Mikes willingness to do job right and see it thru to completion has apparently gone out the window. If I knew he wasn't going to stand behind his work I would have taken it to a local shop where the work would have been guaranteed and my van would be actually running good. A shop would have charged me maybe $300 more But it would have been completely worth it and I wouldn't have had to help him with the job and run all around town with him getting parts. Mike Dean has been a complete let down! Im stuck with my van running like crap after I paid out all that money, IM PISSED!!! Find a new career mike if ur burnt out on this one and You cant see the jobs thru to completion or stand behind your work!!!
