Truth of the matter is we travelled here because of the awesome old neon that was featured on a site my husband follows. Well, turns out that sign got hit by a truck a year or so ago and has been replaced. We learned this after juggling our agenda to come here a day later since they were closed on Sunday. The new sign is cool, but not vintage. But I do like me some snappy service. Years ago we went to a restaurant called Brown's Snappy Service. It possibly started some of our infatuation with places like this with cool signs and history posted all over the walls. We had burgers for breakfast at Ferrell's before 10 a.m. Because why not? The tiny cafe has about seven stools, and both staff and patrons were nicely hospitable and enjoyable to visit with. Also, turns out my dad was at nearby Fort Campbell for basic training, and that sparked some nice conversation with him once I shared where we were that night. We were traveling through and saw this small spot locally and figured we would check it out for breakfast. You're welcomed to a tiny space about 8 chairs total to sit (about 2 in their closet?). We were greeted and staff was kind, our hopes were up. I ordered a country ham breakfast with eggs and hash browns and my girlfriend ordered French toast. My eggs were cooked nicely and hash browns cooked perfectly..but my ham? Was thin and drier than the Sahara desert and tasted slightly off. Her French toast was a barely thin slice of toast and egg with nothing more, no powdered sugar or any cinnamon or anything. we didn't get syrup or butter or jelly to go with anything. Very bland and bad food, their burgers may be the thing to get and maybe we got flukes not being locals but I would proceed with caution coming here. read more

While visiting a friend from college he wanted to take me to Ferrell's, I'm so glad he did. Food was great. It reminded me of the scene from The Menu where Margot orders a classic, simple, homemade cheeseburger. The asthetic was totally radical. The entire restaurant was the size of my old dorm room. Cute little hole in the wall which serves breakfast and lunch (or dinner). They quit serving breakfast at 10, so get up early! Hamburger was pretty decent. I chose not to get the "cheeseburger" because they use American cheese, which I can't abide as it's not real cheese. The gal at the grill was super nice and had great earrings. The other gal was ok but not very friendly, IMHO, but she wasn't rude either. They made a pretty good team and the meal was inexpensive. Go, y'all! read more

If you're looking for that old school diner appeal, THIS IS YOUR SPOT. They've been there since 1936, so it's genuine, not something that's cheap and replicated and they're trying to make it that way. If you've read some other reviews and they talk about the chili, believe it. Their chili bowl is outstanding! Me and my wife split a bowl because I was worried it was one of those chili types where they put green peppers and tons of onions in, which I do not do. However to my delight, there were barely any peppers or onions! Woohoo! Also, like other reviews have mentioned, they don't have French fries here, so keep that n mind. Honestly conflicted about this-on one hand I don't care because I don't eat all my fries anyways n the other hand, I like them more than a bag of chips. Cost was exactly what I'm looking for! $19.29 for 2double cheeseburgers, bowl of chili, one sweet tea, one water. Also, yes, it is the smallest restaurant I've ever been in-not necessarily a bad thing...unless you traveled a little out of the way thinking differently? I do highly recommend this place, but keep in mind it might be a better strategy to call in a take out order and eat it elsewhere. Just a thought. Ferrell's is a Hoptown staple and this is their best and original location. Ferrell's has been around forever, thriving on a simple menu and charmingly greasy grill. Don't expect ambience outside of that of an old Southern diner -bright lights and straight forward service. While I didn't grow up in Hoptown, my mom did in the 50s, so I've been eating Ferrell's my entire life. My mom would buy in bulk, freeze them, and bring them back to FL. Ferrell's is like a visiting a historical, nostalgic landmark where you can get the same great burger you always could. Burgers are cheap and delicious. They are thin patties - think about the size of a McDonald's burger. I recommend it with everything. You may need a few burgers to be full. Know that if you order your burger with cheese, the upcharge makes each burger quite a bit more. read more

This a historic hole in the wall hamburger joint. The menu is burgers, a few other sandwiches, chips, soft drinks, and basic breakfast items. The place is tiny but vintage. It is lunchtime on a Saturday and one person is working the grill and another taking orders, making drinks, and doing everything else. A bar with 7 stools faces the food prep area which features a shiny stainless steel back wall, vintage neon clock and neon trim at the ceiling. The place has a definite dive feel. Service is definitely not "fast food" because of the limited staff and no obvious sense of urgency. Not a smile was seen from either of the two staff members. I got a double hamburger with mayonnaise. They did not have lettuce or tomato. The patties are small and a double is probably equivalent to a regular quarter pound hamburger. The burger was actually quite good. They smash a ball hamburger by hand on the grill and the edges get a little frayed and crispy. The whole thing was really quite delicious. I give the place three stars, not because of the quality of the burger, but because of the slow service and unfriendly attitude of the staff. read more

Ferrell's burgers taste the same today as they did 20 years ago. The product they put out has always been consistent every time I've ordered. It's delicious. The place stays packed and lined out the door. The diner doesn't look like it's been cleaned in the last 20 years. The door you have to enter looks nasty, the floor and barstools are absolutely disgusting, and the employees didn't look very clean either. The grill cook actually yelled and huffed at me because SHE put mustard on my burger and I wouldn't eat it, because I'd ordered it no mustard, add mayo instead. I can't remember if their burgers have always come with two tops or if the grill lady just slapped mine together however she could, but two tops were yummy The two waitresses were friendly. I'm sure their day would be easier if someone with a little more pleasant of a demeanor worked the grill. Did I mention that the entire place is about the size of a laundry room? The two cheeseburgers and a small drink were $8.45. I was served by someone not wearing a COVID mask, but said she had to be careful in case the Health Department came in. The cook told everyone there that "you tell 'em these masks are against your religion and you don't have to wear one. They can't ask questions because it against the law." I heard how COVID is promoted by Democrats. I heard how Trump is telling it like it is. I left. The local news told me two more people in the county died today with COVID. Ironic. read more

This is the second time I've been here. The last time was about a year ago. I LOVED it then. I was excited to go back today. This time... not so much. The people who ordered before us ordered chili. It was cold and hadn't been heated. This place is known for hamburgers and chili. The cook didn't use gloves. None. Rolling the raw hamburger meat with her bare hands . The waitress (with camo pants) was cussing in front of kids in the restaurant. I get that the restaurant was founded in 1929 but that doesn't mean you can't do a little upkeep around there. Oh, and we ordered a cheeseburger with pickle and ketchup. We got pickle and mustard. Maybe I'll try in another year if it's still open, but I wouldn't bet in it. Disappointed. read more

This little dive is named Ferrell's in the main part of town that started in 1929, 7 stools mounted to the floor, green tile work. The employees are in original period uniforms what a cool vibe. Ferrell's is open 24 hours a day and with 3 locations, original 1929 look and feel also the 90 year old owner is still alive, and taking you money as you leave. Very interesting, tiny, old school burger joint in the downtown. One grill, two counters, and about 10 stools. That's it. They smash the burgers flat so a double is a good starting point. The place reminded me of the old SNL "hamburger hamburger cheeseburger" skit based on the Billy Goat in Chicago. You get chips, pickles, no lettuce, no tomato. Fountain drinks are Dr Pepper and RC but no Pepsi or Coke. Lots of locals getting food to go. They also have chili n hot dogs, too. Felt like we went back in time. read more

This is understandable, as the restaurant has been open since 1929(!) and aesthetically the place maintains that old-school burger joint look, leading a customer to feel as if they just stepped into a time warp or something. Unfortunately, despite Ferrell's being steeped in local history, the prices are a bit high and frankly the burgers are not good.
