Well, turns out that sign got hit by a truck a year or so ago and has been replaced. We learned this after juggling our agenda to come here a day later since they were closed on Sunday. The new sign is cool, but not vintage. But I do like me some snappy service. Years ago we went to a restaurant called Brown's Snappy Service. It possibly started some of our infatuation with places like this with cool signs and history posted all over the walls. We had burgers for breakfast at Ferrell's before 10 a.m. Because why not? The tiny cafe has about seven stools, and both staff and patrons were nicely hospitable and enjoyable to visit with. Also, turns out my dad was at nearby Fort Campbell for basic training, and that sparked some nice conversation with him once I shared where we were that night. About halfway through, someone kept coming by to clear our plates even though we were still eating. It almost was stressful that she came up probably ten times in such a short period to clear our plates. The food took about 30 minutes to come out. The Cesar salad was phenomenal, charred and grilled with a light dressing. The pan seared chicken and the salmon were both delicious. We ordered a chocolate chip banana bread pudding for desert and it was out of this world amazing. Lucky for us it was really great! I had the country fried steak platter with over easy eggs. My wife had a bacon and egg platter, subbing the toast or biscuit option for a pancake. The pancakes here are offered in two varieties--"thin" or standard. She went standard, which is a thick, fluffy pancake. I haven't seen this style served outside of the many pancake houses in the smoky mountains. Always enjoy those when staying there and this one, judging from my bite, is on par with those. For those unaccustomed to this style, it's far better than you might imagine. The "thin" cakes, which can be ordered in stacks, is what is a "standard" hotcake pretty much anywhere else. My country fried steak was great, eggs cooked to order perfectly. Hot coffee, cheap prices, great service even though they were very busy and our server was juggling a dozen tasks simultaneously.
