There are two places I trust completely when it comes to putting together a truly chic, upscale…read moreboho look. One is in Palm Springs and the other is in Joshua Tree, and between the two of them, you can create something that feels entirely your own. In Palm Springs, it's The Frippery. In Joshua Tree, it's The End. These are not stores where you walk in and grab something off a rack and call it a day. This is where you build a look. The pieces are curated, the textures are right, and there's a very intentional mix of vintage, statement, and elevated boho that you just do not see everywhere else. You can feel that the owners understand style, not just trends, and that makes all the difference. It will take many pieces to bring it all together, so take your time. Do not rush through it. Let yourself explore, try things on, and really pay attention to what feels right. This is not about grabbing one perfect item. It is about layering, editing, and building something slowly until it becomes your look. The right jewelry, the right gloves, the right hat or bolero. Every detail matters. You never quite know what the final result will be, and that is part of the magic. It is a process. You shift things, you refine, and then suddenly it all comes together in a way you could not have planned from the beginning. What I love most is that you are not going to walk into an event and see someone else wearing the same thing. That almost never happens anymore, and here it feels possible again. You leave with something personal, a little unexpected, and completely your own. If I really wanted to impress someone, this is exactly how I would do it. I would pull pieces from both shops, layer everything together, add a little glamour, and show up dressed to the nines, but still effortless, still boho, still cool without trying too hard. Trust the process. You are going to walk out wearing something absolutely killer.

I'm giving Gypsy Treasure a four-star review as they are a valuable community resource since they…read moreare one of the few costume stores open year-round, and they also provide some theater-quality makeup with staff that actually know how to use it. I have been to Gypsy Treasure several times in the past, but this was my first visit since they have moved to the Grossmont Center location (apparently about five years ago). I came in about 5 days before Halloween, primarily in search of makeup and a crown for my Day of the Dead festival look. When I walked in, the place was pretty hopping. However, I was quickly greeted at the makeup counter and walked through the white face paint options, and given information about some of the various color palettes. After some conversation and deliberation, I chose a white water-based face paint and a couple of color palettes. One was glow-in-the-dark. I then asked about flower crowns, and was surprised to find that they only had one. It was one of those cheesy costume kits that came with skeleton hand gloves and skull earrings, neither of which I wanted. However, the price was pretty inexpensive, so I purchased it just for the crown. I looked around for a hat for my husband's costume, but couldn't find exactly what he wanted, though they had some pretty unique hats. Gypsy Treasure has a large selection of costumes for rent, which appeared to be of much higher quality than the costumes for sale. I saw several cute vintage dresses and hats for women, as well as some pretty elaborate costumes. I did feel that several of the costume items in the front of the store were the same quality you would get from any Halloween store. However, I would definitely return for makeup, or if I had costume needs outside of the Halloween season.

Gypsy Treasure has a wide range of costumes. I went looking for accessories for a 1920's flapper…read moreparty and found everything I needed (except a beaded shawl). Chris gave me suggestions (a boa) instead of a shawl. The black gloves are stretchy so one size fits all. Highly recommend Gipsy Treasure for fancy dress parties or Halloween.
