This was on a list of suggested restaurants during our two night stay in London last weekend. Gotta have fish and chips right? Our hotel concierge said to come here. We just got off a cruise ship that morning. We walked over from our hotel at the London Marriott Kensington. It was about 17-18 minutes walk. We got to the restaurant around 11:30 am without a reservation. Oops. It's weekend brunch. But they were very gracious. We got the table way in the back which sat the four of us. We were focused on fish & chips. A whole haddock we're told. It was suggested we could share a plate and the kitchen could split it. That's the way we went. For beverages hubby & BIL each ordered local beer. I went with the Bloody Mary. I have to say that's the best Bloody Mary I've had. Made with fresh horseradish and Worcestershire sauce. It's a must order if you like Bloody Mary's. Our fish & chip order - it was perfect. Great coating. The haddock was flaky. Tasted fresh. And the steak fries were good. The four of us enjoyed our orders. What made it a great lunch was the hospitality. A very friendly staff. Very attentive. It's a very small footprint with a very extensive menu. I'd go back. The next time I'm in London...

Eggs Benedict French Toast

Excellent service, kind attentive staff! The food was AMAZING!!! I had the eggs Benedict and French toast and both exceeded expectations. I would definitely come back here.

This was such an awesome little place that we chanced upon with a little help from Yelp. Although it is close to Kensington Palace, it feels really homey and the staff was super cool and awesome to us. All of the dishes were impressive and we really enjoyed this little place. My wife now wants to eat here every night on our visit... I still need to try other places but I get it. I can't say whether the food, or the staff are a better reason to try this place. Stop by you won't be disappointed.

Sticky toffee pudding

We came after seeing great reviews on Yelp, and this definitely didn't disappoint! The food and drinks were excellent, the atmosphere was cozy, and the service was great. Everyone was so kind, the menu was clearly carefully designed, we had a wonderful evening! We are addicted to really good sticky toffee pudding. The steak pie special was amazing.

Best Restaurant in London by far, no other place comes even close. You can tell everything is cooked to order, fresh perfection on a dish. Great for friends, groups or just to impress. I was just in had the most delicious borscht, light tender divine followed by turkey meatballs over fresh vegetable house made noodles with pesto and pecorino cheese amazing If in London you must go skip the palace and dine like ur royalty. YUMM

We stumbled upon Ffiona's after trying to find two other places and we would stumble again! An amazing chalkboard menu, fabulous staff, and Ffiona sat down to chat with us personally. We enjoyed the Chicken Kiev, Chalk stream trout, colcannon, butternut squash with tomatoes, and garlic spinach. I would return here one thousand times over anywhere we dined in Kensington! Thank you Ffiona and team, cheers!

Pork Roast

Food: Yummy English comfort food, I was there on a Sunday night, so. why not have the good ole Sunday roast. It was yummy, well prepared, loved the piece of crunchy pork along with the soft and juicy roast. The food was good, the menu is short and simple. In addition, you will find the menu listed on a huge chalkboard, bring your glasses if you suffer from myopia. Service: Fiona was quite welcoming. I believe she was short-staffed as she was the waitress and host for that night.....doing all. Hence, the service was slow and the food took a good 35 min to be served. Ambiance: Super relaxed, casual, dark, warm, cozy, romantic, street scenery of busy London, quirky with lots of funny frames on the walls.

Scallops appetizer

Wonderful find in Kensington! Busy during weekday dinner but we luckily got seated immediately- recommend booking in advance to make sure! Very homey feel with two sisters who are waiting all the tables and they are so friendly and kind. Seemed to be filled with locals or at least people who had been before. Complimentary bread and butter was a great start- the bread has small bits of black olives and the butter is great quality super flavorful butter. We got the special for an appetizer, the scallops- they were perfectly cooked, 4 scallops cooked in garlic butter with a side of greens. Parmesan salad is also a great light app- dressing is very refreshing and the Parmesan is so flavorful and generously topped. Chicken kiev is so tasty- it's crispy on the outside but the meat is incredibly tender- the filling and sauce are buttery and indulgent. I added a side of asparagus for more veg- we were told they just got them in from their vegetable supplier so they're fresh and in season. Fish and chips are classic- large piece of fish is crispy and not too salty. Chips and thick cut and nicely fried. Total for this meal (included a beer and a 12.5% tip) was £88. Excellent service, a lovely homey environment, and great food not far from high street Kensington. So glad to have found this place!

One eventually came to our table after sitting awhile. I of course had to try the fish n chips. A couple of veggie burgers were ordered and a regular burger. Surprisingly happy hour was still on at 8 o'clock so drinks were ordered. The food all came at the same time and everything was cool. The fish had a nice flavor from the fried batter. To me it was similar to Long John Silvers as far as the batter is concerned, but slightly better quality overall. The fries were standard. The only thing horrible was the very bland mashed green peas. They should be omitted from every pub across the country, but I think it is a traditional item included with the fish. The cocktails were good as well as the price. The sticky toffee pudding was something else I was advised to try while in London. I must admit it was really delicious. It came with a scoop of ginger ice cream and a warm buttery toffee sauce to pour over. It was delightfully warm and sweet and paired well with the ice cream. The cake itself was moist enough on its own with notes of brown sugar and molasses. I could have had seconds and thirds of this desert. Yum! The majority of my party didn't think the food was fantastic. The burgers happened to be somewhat alright. This was a first for me having pub food and I would have more again as long as I stick to the basics.

However, on deeper inspection - the Cow is a marvelous dining experience - complete with an extensive wine selection, rotating specials, and a bespoken approach to food preparation. The food? Well, it's British pub fare - with a slightly divergent menu on Sundays. Everything is fresh and beautifully plated. The bangers and mash was exceptional. The green bean salad was so unique and popping with flavors, I scribbled the ingredients list in an attempt to reproduce the dish at home. The atmosphere is hopping - it's a small pub ambience and there is not any wasted space. Not to fear, the delightful staff can help find a table for your party. I was a bit intimidated walking in on a Sunday night all by myself. My trepidation quickly went away as the server made it easy to relax and enjoy my evening. As a small aside, I sat next to the small kitchen space on the main floor. To see the amazing plates being prepared one after the other in that tiny kitchen, well . . . that was an amazing experience in and of itself. Chapeau to the chef. Truly a masterpiece to put out such accomplished food from a space no larger than most bathrooms.

When we arrived, it seemed like reservations were expected, and they did have some available, but they kindly seated us anyway. We chose the tasting menu since it featured a variety of farm-fresh dishes. My husband added the wine pairing. We started with a mushroom marmite éclair, which was better than I expected, followed by buttery Queenie scallops, a cheese course, chorizo, and beef bavette. Dessert was chocolate mousse, but I asked to switch to pie, and they were happy to accommodate. The ambiance felt like a cozy English countryside diner. I loved the details about the farm and the little pamphlet about where the food came from. Every dish was so thoughtful. This place is a hidden gem.
