If you don't dine at Fiona's during your visit to London you are missing out on a true London experience. Ffiona greets you immediately as if you were family. She's the only server AND owner. She sits with you as she writes down your order. The menus is written on the wall in chalk and has the most amazing selections. I had the fish and chips. And my husband had the chicken Kiev. Both were absolutely delicious. Some tables are large enough to sit with strangers and that's also what makes this place so charming and unique. Ffiona sits and chats with every table. Absolute gem! We were so happy when we called (last minute) for a reservation and got in. Down home cooking at a friendly budget and that takes your breath away! Ffiona was absolutely wonderful to us and we're a mixed couple of girls so I'm not sure about the complaints on discrimination. Word to the wise: listen to what is being offered, she means what she's saying if something is good or recommended. And, we're the travelers in her house so take it easy, enjoy some wine and order some delicious food, everything else will fall into place. We had so much fun we made a new friend for life. I'm so thrilled we decided to come in despite the few scary reviews. Had time to kill on Sunday during a business trip so I decided to do some sightseeing in the city. By evening I was starving and remembered that it's really hard to get a good English roast without a reservation. When I read the reviews about how good the food is here and how nice the owner is, I thought I'd walk in and see if she would have mercy on me. She (understandably) told me I could sit and eat, but that she would need the table back in 40 minutes. It wasn't hard to finish that quickly when it was so delicious! We are in London for a wedding. We went to a recommended place to eat only to find they closed early. We were walking to another place when we saw Ffiona's. It didn't look like much but when we opened the door we were "warmly" welcomed by Ffiona herself. We were seated and Ffiona went through her menu options. There is no paper menu except for drinks. Items are listed on a blackboard. Ffiona described in detail how they were seasoned and cooked. This is British cuisine with a flare plus Ffiona is a budding comedienne. After reading all of the great reviews on Yelp we decided that this would be our first meal in London. Naively we headed to Ffiona's on a Saturday night without a reservation and a group on 7! The placed was packed when we arrived at 7:30. After walking 1.75 miles to get there I was suddenly filled with fear upon arrival that the rest of my party would be upset, to put it lightly, if we couldn't get in. We patiently waited 10 minutes at the door and then were asked if we had a reservation. No I respond with trepidation, um Ffiona says, I'm not sure we can get you in. A few minutes later a large group gets up and miraculously we are seated! If you want to dine here, be smarter than me and make a reservation. We were seated next to a regular who was kind enough to provide us with some recommendations. We ordered the beef and liver pie, so tasty. The top is puff pastry the liver was perfectly cooked. Not grainy. The Hake(fish) was the best item on the menu! The fish and chips were well executed with a moist interior and a crispy exterior. The pork chop was the second best item! It was so moist and well seasoned. Mussels were good, everything was great. Do yourself a favor and come here. read more

I wasn't expecting Ffiona's to live up to the incredible reviews I see here, but I was pleasantly surprised. I showed up alone, without a reservation but Fiona (is her name really spelled with two ffs? I forgot to ask) graciously found me a seat at a large (communal?) table. the space is pretty small, but the tables are spaced out pretty well so it's intimate but you don't feel like you're sharing your meal with people at the next table. I think there is the one large table which is probably used for walk-ins. the menu is written on a big chalkboard. I think there are some daily specials as well as the standard fare. I opted for the grilled avocado which was fantastic. I doubt I would go back and not order it every time. for main they had duck breast that night which was superb. wine list was not extensive, but enough options, and fairly priced. but the best part of the experience is the atmosphere. it's so cozy and inviting and on the night I was there, Fiona was chatting with the customers in a way that made everyone feel like they were friends. she came to my table and talked with me for a while too, which was really nice. I come to London quite frequently these days and Ffiona's will definitely be on my regular rrotation :) read more

Ffiona's is easily my favorite restaurant in London. The whole experience, from the food, to the atmosphere, to Ffiona herself, felt like family/home. The menu was wonderful and full of handmade dinner specials, scratch made. The food was really really delicious and flavorful. The atmosphere felt like a county inn of sorts. Tastefully decorated and lit, with the smell of kitchen permeating the dinning room. Wow! Ffiona was delightful. She was genuinely interested in making sure our dinner was memorable. (And it was.) She even shared a scotch with us after dinner! I can't wait to go back to Ffiona's next time I travel to London. Whenever I come to London, Ffiona's is an absolute must to visit. I have never had a disappointing meal here. Today it was the Sunday roast with the pork roast. Delicious food. Wonderfully personalized services. Charming atmosphere. I spent a week in the London area and this was probably best restaurant experience I had during my time. We came in on a weeknight and were able to be seated immediately. After a few minutes we were greeted with a sweet lady that sat down beside us and explained the menu and some of her favorite items. We ended up going with a few cocktails, pate and chicken noodle soup to start, and the lamb roast as our entree. Everything was delicious. The soup and pate in particular was extremely flavorful and balanced. We didn't have time for desert as we were running late but looking around, don't think we would have been disappointed. I had one day in London and I decided to spend the only meal I had time to eat here. After a long day of pounding pavement, the last thing I wanted to do on a Friday night was to fight for a table at a loud pub. Ffiona's was a delightful gem in the middle of a bustling city. Ffiona actually greeted us when we walked through the door. The ambiance was beautiful with candlelight, chalkboard menus and sheet music wallpaper. I had the fish and chips, my first London meal. And, my mom had the peppercorn steak. We shared sides of spicy butternut squash and steamed greens. Everything was fulfilling and delicious. My favorite food parts of this place were the mushy peas and the greens. What comfort food! Although the food was fantastic, my overall favorite part of this trip was Ffiona. She sat with patrons as they ate as if she'd know them for years when in fact they only stopped in moments before. Some she actually has known for years. You couldn't tell the difference. For all I knew, I was at Ffiona's house as her friend. Her food was delicious, her personality was more than satisfying. I will return to Ffiona's again and again. read more

So I honestly picked this place strictly based on Yelp (and Google) reviews. We were staying in Kensington near the palace so I wanted to find a restaurant close to our hotel for our first night in after travel. As you can obviously see, Ffiona's has great reviews. The location is a little bit off the main drag, but not too far. When we first got there, we were pretty surprised at the simple storefront and very small interior. Don't be fooled! Ffiona herself was there running the show as she has been for 20+ years. All of the menu items are written up on the chalk board. It's an extremely homey experience. We got a great bottle of red wine and just let Ffiona basically pick what we should order. My entire family loved their dishes. We had fish and chips, lamb, fish, everything. They say British Cusine can be mediocre but Ffiona proved that wrong. The menu here can suit anyone's needs be it carnivores, vegetarians, and vegans. Ffiona herself was incredibly friendly getting to know each table being served and recommending dishes that'd best fit your appetite. I had the lamb and my friend being a vegetarian ordered the sweet potatoe noodles. The lamb was incredible. I loved each piece and the mashed potatoes served on the side were also delicous. My friend enjoyed his meal a lot, his favorite vegetarian meal he had in London. Their cocktails were nice and the wine selection is also pretty good and pairs well with the meals.
