There are MANY MANY great pubs in MY neighborhood near Queensway, this is NOT one of them thanks to a completely nuts landlord that has NO business being in ANYTHING Customer facing, seriously, AVOID AVOID AVOID you can do better Tonight was a tough one, England v Argentina and yes ,England lost, it was very emotional, but that nothing to do with the Muppet landlord being a complete wound up nutter throughout. Mid 1st half we ordered a pizza. A few minutes later a lovely server brought out a pizza that looking like ours and was looking for the right table. I said, I think that is ours, she dropped it off, and we started eating. Then this NUTTER LANDLORD came out and yelled at my friend as it turned out it wasn't ours. We goofed, I goofed, but it was an accident. This Muppet then proceeded to YELL at my friend for "Ruining his kitchen". we completely apologized and asked if we could pay for the other pizza, he just kept yelling, and threatened to throw my friend out over this. Luckily he finally just went away and stood by the pub door most of the match looking like a deranged looney who forgot his meds. THEN, game ends, I have a tab at the bar, I ask my friend to move over a bit so I can go PAY this nutter what I owe. He moves over literally 6 inches and Landlord Nutjob starts yelling at him that he is in the aisle. I tell him, very politely, that I'm just getting up to pay and he keeps at it. So I finally have had enough w this moron and tell him so, tell him he's been a massive D**khead all match for NO reason, he yells at me to leave the bar, I say fine, want me to leave without paying, he storms outside because HE CAN'T CONTROL HIMSELF, he comes back in and continues to insult me. Sorry I'm a Marine Veteran and we take no Sh**te from any rank and walk our post from flank to flank. STAY THE HECK AWAY FROM THIS PUB UNTIL THE OWNER GETS SMART AND FIRES THIS LOSER. Great pub food that was walking distance from our hotel. Service was fine. Menu is wide ranging but we were there specifically for fish and chips. And it was delicious. Only tip is to eat is quickly as the hot fish will make the batter which was amazing soggy if sits for long time. Tartar sauce was delicious. Decent beer selection along with a full bar. read more

Convenient walk from Paddington or Hyde Park (North). Being seated felt a bit confusing as it was hard to tell as you seat yourself if someone was coming with a menu or if ordering at the bar is best. Turns out that you can do both. Fish and Chips were the recommendation that brought me here and they did not disappoint. Crisp minty peas, thick chips and delicious light crispy fish. Our first dinner in London and we chose a typical local pub and were pleased with the decision. The olive plate appetizer was great and we share the chicken skewers and an order of fish and chips. The fish and chips were perfectly cooked and weren't greasy or floating in oil. The draft IPA was not one, in my view as that's my go-to favorite and this on wasn't hoppy in the least. This local pub is near Hyde Park and they have a nice variety of pub food but they appear to cater more to the drinking crowd. The food was good and the servers were nice but the service could have been better. The night we were there, it appeared that there were some communication issues between the servers and cooks because a few people in our party had to wait a long time to get their meal. read more

During my time at this restaurant, I ordered a roast and when the food came to my table, my roast was not there. The waiter told me it was my fault and there was no ticket for my roast even after I paid loads of money for the meal. They said they had told the kitchen to prepare another roast, but as I waited for another hour, the roast never showed up. Horrible experience and I was never offered a refund. This is definitely a pub pub. What I mean by that is that it is the kind of place the old men of the area come to watch the football, the families come for a meal out with their kids and the people visiting are told to go try the food specials. After a long walk around the area I came across this pub and decided to pop in for a drink. While it is in central London it does not seem like a trendy destination; rather, a good old pub known to the locals and kept relatively secret save for the tourists in the surrounding hotels. It's fairly small in size, with Victorian themed decor and screens playing sports. They do seem to make an effort with food and drink though; I tried the winter warming pimms which tasted like sweet mulled cider with an extra fruity layer and was quite nice. The food I saw some of the other patrons eating looked yummy and I wished I had tried some myself. I'd recommend his place for people going out in the park with their family and then wanting to stop somewhere for a spot of lunch or dinner and a couple of drinks. read more

This place was located just a short walk away from where we were staying on Inverness. My dad and I decided to try it based on all the positive reviews and we're certainly glad we did! It's a very warm and inviting pub, and we were immediately able to get a table after walking in off the street. It was the Sunday right before Christmas and the place was decorated very well and was cozy. Our server immediately came over and was very chatty and friendly. On her recommendations my dad ordered the Sunday roast and I ordered the bangers and mash. The sausages, mash and gravy each have customizable options based on your tastes, and so I once again deferred to the server to choose my options based on what she liked. She did not lead us astray. My dad's roast was amazing, as was my bangers and mash. Simply out of this world as far as pub food goes. I was not impressed with their beer options, but they were sufficient. I returned one other time with my dad for tea, but my dad and brother stopped in for dinner two days after our first dinner during a time when I was off meeting with friends. My dad really enjoyed it again, as did my brother. My dad accidentally forgot his card there during dinner with my brother but during our tea excursion the barman recognized him when we ordered and returned it to us before we even realized it was missing! That honesty alone should earn the Leinster Arms a 6th star. Overall one of the best traditional English pub meals I've ever had and recommend it to anyone who wants an authentic and well-prepared pub meal. read more

Excellent -- kind, but matter-of-fact, pub proprietor, friendly and cheerful (but not overly loud and boisterous) atmosphere. We went on a Sunday night at about 7:00. With just two of us there were a couple of seating options (we chose the front area, close to the bar). The servers were friendly and efficient, with character!! We started off with the charcuterie plate and a Scotch egg, both of which were delicious. Then my son decided to order the Sunday Roast Beef. It was traditional, with parsnips, potatoes, carrots, lots of gravy -- and Yorkshire pudding (a new experience, as was the Scotch egg). This was also yummy. For dessert we had the (warm) brownie and the (nice and hot) apple crumble, both with ice cream. Both were exceptional. My (15-year-old) son pronounced the brownie to be the best he's ever had. What I got to taste if it was divine! The apple crumble had a great topping, and was so piping hot -- it was excellent with the ice cream. The apples weren't mooshy, either -- just right. All in all, we had an outstanding and memorable dinner, and an all-around enjoyable experience. read more

What is it to be an Irishman, exiled in London? A century ago it meant discrimination, building work and over achieving rugby teams.   30 years ago it meant police brutality and ever constant suspicion. In north-central London they built a brand new, high security police station to keep an eye over the exiles and their drinking holes.   These used to dot the area From Bayswater to Kilburn, starting from the Leinster arms, spitting distance from Hyde Park.   It is an awful place in many ways - too small to be anything but a drinking pub, although with a clientele too old to keep the beer flowing to the needed levels.   Upon entering, a visitor is hit with a wall of orange. Whether this emanates from the pre-historic, nicotine stained wall papers, the diffuse lights or the third-hand tables is unclear.   The bar staff are as cosmopolitan as you would expect from a central London pub, although it is hard to identify an Irishman amongst them.   The beer choice is wide and relatively cheap.    The food is surprisingly okay. read more

We came here because it was near our hotel - the restaurant is very near to lots of hotels so you may find a lot of foreigners at this pub (during our time there, there were at least 4 foreigners parties including us). Service was cheerful. The curry of the day special (prawn curry) was delicious. Lamb pie was pretty good but had bone shards in it. I went the for lunch just the other day. I would say it rates an A-OK, but I must admit, with just 'that' much more effort, it could have been really great. I got there about an hour after they opened and the staff, (One guy and one girl) were still setting up. The place had no music and would have seemed closed. I asked them if I was too early for lunch and they said 'no, your fine.' I took a seat at a booth and the place is everything that you would expect from a British pub (as an American). Pretty dark, dark wood, lots of barware and taps, etc. The servers were wearing street clothes with bib aprons, so not too exciting there. So, facility, OK. Clean, comfortable temp, clean menus, easy to understand what the deal is. I ordered a Steak, Mushroom and Cheese Suet Pudding. I did this because of a couple reasons. 1) my mom used to buy bird food packed into suet when I was a kid, so I know its a crude beef fat, sometimes from caul, sometimes from rendering. I have never eaten that... yet....uh.... why not. and 2) it was the most unique item on the menu. Other hits are steak and ale pie; chicken and leek pie; Aberdeen Angus cottage pie; Venison pie; Chicken curry pie; turkey stilton and vintage port pie; Woodland mushroom pie, and lamb and apricot pie. Too many good choices, really! Pies and Ales, just what lunch should be right? In England, across from the way from Kensington Park / Hyde Park and Kensington Palace, one should be able to get into this hard core! It's also close to the Bayswater, Queensway and Paddington U stations. Lot's of long term construction nearby, as the water mains are ancient. This is England's coldest winter in like 35 years, so they are popping like brittle candy. All the streets are torn up in Westminster right now. The only thing that would have made it really, really good is the staff. They were a bit dour for my taste. It's a shame too. The guy cooking seemed nice enough. The girl behind the bar was 20 something and really pretty. I had to work really hard just to get a smile of any sort out of either one of them. They were polite in that 'British' sort of way, meaning they didn't tell me to fuck off under their breath, but they did not engage unless spoken too and you had to get right in front of them to get there. As the only person in the place, they had plenty of time. Culinary: they have a display (sort of) kitchen. The predominant item showing to the public and announcing itself with a loud 'ding' is the microwave oven. Epic Fail for any open kitchen. It was tasty, but the veg was old, the mash tasted instant. The pie itself was my first, so I don't really know. Putting this one into the 'been there, done that' column. I would still say go there, but go when it's busy and they are in the game more. read more

On our last night in London we decided to come here, based on the great reviews. It did not disappoint. I had the beef and Guinness pie, and it was definitely my favorite meal of our trip (and we even ate at one of Gordon Ramsey's restaurants last night!). I scraped the plate clean! My husband had scotch eggs to start, and the sausages and mash, and also thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything was well cooked, seasoned, and plated nicely. Will recommend to friends and family who travel to the area! I can't really comment on the drinks since I was there for the food which I can say was more than satisfying. I could lick my plate if we weren't outside among other people. My corner pub, currently. They have the special TV pack to show all of the games, a decent sized menu of traditional pub food (sausage & mash-including a vegetarian sausage, pies, Sunday roast), and a friendly staff. It's quiet, laid back and has a nice atmosphere- it's relatively small, but not cramped and is very clean and cute. It's the kind of place I can sit with a friend and enjoy a drink, or take my books and study with a pint without feeling awkward. It's a nice neighborhood, so everything is at the upper-end of the expected price range. But it's a really nice choice for the neighborhood, too, since pretty much everything on Queensway is disgusting. read more

We stayed in the Ceased Hotel on our recent visit to London and this was the nearest pub. We went here several times and enjoyed it. It's a comfortable local with friendly staff and good food. Stopped here for dinner on a trip to London. It was a short walk from our hotel. Lovely service, not too busy, and delicious food. It was definitely decently priced and had great British pub food. We both got different sausages (venison for my husband, vegetarian for me) and mashed potatoes (tomato mozzarella for him, chive for me) and ate every bite.
