This place was recommended by a co-worker who said, "it's cheap and you get a lot of ice cream." While we don't consume vats of ice cream, I'm always up for a good deal. It was a bit of a drive for us, but the weather was nice and the top was off the Jeep. They have both soft serve and hard. My understanding is that they make it all in house. We opted for the soft serve "baby" cones...having experienced other rural ice cream baby cones where they are the size of a large Mr. Softee in NYC. (Not that I have seen, would want, or could afford a large Mr. Softee.) I went with the black raspberry and my wife chose a split chocolate/peanut butter. True to our experiences, these were big cones...hers being monstrous. (I think they had to make it big to fit both flavors). I'm not exaggerating when I say her cone was easily a large size even at other, similar (rural) establishments. But hey, it's not just the size that matters. The flavors were very, very good. In my quest for black cherry ice cream on the East Coast, I tend to choose berry flavors. This was very tasty. My wife's chocolate was fairly average, but the peanut butter was the best peanut butter soft serve she's had. It was delicious. Both of these monstrous baby cones came to a little over $3. I've been to many, many ice cream places over my years including Coldstone. I have never had such a huge portion of ice cream for the amount they charge in my life. $2.99 + .55 for waffle cone for a small. Believe me, the small is the size of most LARGES elsewhere. You know how the ice cream always melts and drips out the whole in the bottom of the cone? Not here, they put chocolate sauce inside the cone and the ice cream stays in the cone! Problem is. there is so much ice cream around the outside, you better be a fast eater! If you want the cone, (and who doesn't) ask for a cup to set the cone in. They also offer soft serve, and all the usual suspects of ice cream delights. It was a Tuesday night, in which they close at 8:30, but when we left about that time there was still a long line at window and a long line of cars at the drive through. The system for the line moving is pretty good, one window to order and pay and next window for pick-up. And BTW, cash only, Credit cards just slows down the line. read more

Not really sure what else you could ask for or what you'd want from an ice cream shop, to rate it low? I mean, if its cuz they only accept cash, then that's the deal. At least they offer an on-site ATM for you to easily access so you may get cash. And do you blame them? Banks charge a % each time you use their merchant service machine. The ice cream place would be out of business from all the $ lost on accepting it. Their flavors are more than adequate to appease your tastebuds, the portions are the largest anywhere around, the place is clean and the line moves rather quickly. Plenty of parking. You get what you pay for and isn't that all that matters in the end? Staff is friendly parking can be a headache when it's busy but they have a drive thru which is different for and ice cream stand. Fielder's has huge portions and reasonable prices. We go to the Sabattus location the most, the staff is always kind and we've never had a problem with our orders! We like the drive-thru, but we don't have kids. When we bring my niece (3.5 years) we sit at the tables. They're usually clean, but sometimes sticky. The playground has a ton of puddles and mud if it has recently rained, but it doesn't really affect us unless we have my niece, then we lure her away with a promise to visit a different playground nearby. As far as dairy free options, I miss the Dole Whip, but the berry sorbet is good. read more
