We used to love the Italian Bakery, the food is great don't get me wrong, but the customer service could really use some work! Every time we call the person who answers is always incredibly rude. We used to go every weekend to get breakfast, but we've stopped due to this reoccurring issue! We tried calling this morning (10/15/2025) after not going for about a month and we got attitude for trying to order our breakfast. We were told that what we wanted to order should be placed when we come in and she wasn't going to do it over the phone. What's the point of calling ahead if she's not going to take it? We really do love most of the staff here and enjoy their food, but the service from whomever this employee is really affects the business! read more

I wanted so so much to love this bakery. I wanted to love it so much that I would end up driving up from Portland on the regular. I love Italian bakery "rainbow" cookies and make them myself for December holidays, but they are a LOT of work and time and I SO wanted to find a spot in Maine to buy them instead. I will say the rainbow cookies were pretty solid. I did end up going home with a pretty big bag and others at home enjoyed them as well. My disappointment honestly, lies in the rest of the offerings inside. There were other cookies and cakes, which looked ok, but not spectacular or reminiscent of other Italian bakeries. There was also house made pizza for sale, I was excited by this until I saw the room temp rectangles on the counter seemingly topped with more parmesan than mozzarella. This company has lost my business for good! Twice now I've been hit on by an employee and the second time was a 3 year gap which is stalkerish behavior! This employee deliberately for the 2nd time ignored my fiancee who was with me and put all their attention on me which is inappropriate and uncomfortable! I spoke with someone who claimed to be a manager and told her to speak to her employees about flirting with the customers instead of doing their job and she smirked as well as laughed it off! read more

I just found this place and am so happy about it!!! This is a genuine Italian bakery and everything we tried was fresh and delicious (and reasonably priced)! The amaretto cake was phenomenal. I have been a customer of the Italian bakery for years but no more. The original Italian bakery was sold a couple of years ago but I kept going hoping it would still offer the high quality bakery goods with great customer service. However, both the quality of the goods and the service has deteriorated over the years. It has finally reached the point where I will no longer go there. Last week, I purchased several cannoli's, cake and turnovers. The cannolis were old as if they were made days ago. They taste like they had been in the refrigerator for a long time leaving a real bad after taste of refrigeration. The turnovers crust was thick with no taste while the filling was a cheap sugar jell.. The cake was good as it must have been fresh. Now the person waiting on me was all attitude. basically "Whatta you want?" While I was deciding, I hear " Are you done?" When I told her that I was deciding, she got all huffy. So to wrap this up. Old bakery goods combined with bad customer service is why I will never return. read more

Our only regret is not buying MORE! We were in Lewiston and found this gem on Yelp, small hidden place but worth the hunt!! As soon as you walk in, you get that family feel...the honey glazed donuts are amazing! Again, I should have bought more of those! I also got the limoncello, puff pastries with raspberry jelly, a chicken pie (so good!!) few other cookies and breads to try. Regret not taking pictures. The Italian Bakery is a Lewiston staple and a go-to for donuts and catering needs. They recently are under new ownership and according to the article in the Sun Journal, their plan was not to change anything, but to expand parts of the business and offer more options for lunch and dinner to-go meals. They make this orange juice donut with a glaze on it that I would eat a dozen of them each day if I could, but that would require 4-6 hours of gym time to maintain my manly figure...lol (stop laughing if you know me). They offer daily specials which include: Hamburgers, red salmon pie, chicken pot pie, baked beans and the infamous red hot dogs. If you are from the Lewiston/Auburn area, you know how baked bean suppers have been a staple meal for many decades. If you haven't tried any of their baked goods, you need to head down NOW and try for yourself. SAD!!! I've been looking forward to going there for half a yr since I discovered it last yr after it had closed for the day. And now I actually got to go, and was EXTREMELY disappointed by the fact that there were absolutely NO labels for anything, had no idea what anything was or even how much it was. And the person who I was with made mention of how there should be signs there and the guy there just kinda laughed it off. And the food actually looked pretty decent too. I was so disappointed and upset I didn't even get anything. We were really excited to stop in after seeing the great reviews. We got a sampling of pastries (neopolitan, raspberry cream horn, amoretto cake, raspberry filled cookie, and a small cannoli), a Sicilian (bread ish) pizza, and a normal 7" pizza. We are glad we got a sampling cause it was a varied experience. The people were very very nice! My pizza was brought out by an adorable kiddo, training in the family business. The normal pizza was delicious, very nice soft crust, pizza sauce had great flavor and good cheese. The Sicilian pizza looks good, we tried it cold but it mostly seemed like sauced and seasoned soft bread (not bad though). The amoretto cake was ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL. Creamy, balanced flavor, just the right amount of crunch, and still light. We started with this one but none of the other pastries we tried were nearly as good. The neopolitan was huge, the chocolate was nice but the whipped cream and Bavarian cream were fairly bland. The pastry itself seemed a little stale (we got there around 11am), maybe they were from the prior day? The cream horn was also a little stale and the filling was overly sweet so you couldn't really taste the raspberry sadly. The cannoli shell was great but the filling didn't have much flavor. The raspberry cookie (jam inside) was way too sweet and the cookie itself didn't have much flavor. From other reviews, I know this place is going through some ownership changes, good luck to the new people! Overall, would definitely come back for the amoretto cake and the pizza. read more

Our water polo team was at Bates for a tournament and had a short break between games during which we wanted some sustenance. We had very little time but the Italian Bakery was too enticing to resist, so we hurried over there in outfits consisting of swimsuits, caps, goggles, towels, sweatshirts, slippers, and crocs. Despite our unruly appearance everyone working at the Italian Bakery was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered a variety of sandwiches and coffees, as well as some donuts for a treat after our next game, and we thoroughly enjoyed them all. I also purchased a delicious loaf which had cheese and pepperoni baked into the bread, and this loaf brought joy to my life for the rest of the week as I consumed it in various forms (sandwiches, toast, etc). While snacking on the loaf at our tournament, a few slices fell on the floor, but even those were consumed with joy and enthusiasm by various members of the team as we couldn't bear to throw away even a single slice of the delicious pepperoni loaf! We were hoping to return the next day for another meal and more desserts, but unfortunately our tournament schedule didn't give us a long enough break for a second Italian Bakery excursion. Ok.. so. I've been in L/A for almost 2 years now. I'm embarrassed to say that it's taken me 1.5 years to find my way to The Italian Bakery (my loss, for sure.) It's dangerously only a 30 second drive from my studio and I've found myself there many mornings recently on my way to work. First of all, if you go --scratch that-- WHEN you go, take a second to read the history on the wall by the cash register, hint: the family that started this & the Sam's Italian sandwich shop family are one in the same. *mind blown* Here's my real addiction: the English Muffin roasting bread that I get my breakfast sandwich on.. it's the PERFECT amount of crunchy, toasty English muffin meets tasty, soft bread *drooling* ..... ..... and the WALNUT SQUARES. I won't lie, I thought they were kind of boring thing (walnuts, amirite?) but OH Mylantaaaaa.... there goes my low calorie, low sugar diet. So there's about 4,209 MORE ITEMS in the cases that I have yet to try (I buy the boxes and get random stuff for clients, some are Italian and have verified the Cannolis are in fact 100% Italian cannolis, haha!) They make handy pre-made dinners and stick them in the case, they do coffees and iced coffee (with coffee iced cubes), they have fresh bread, they make platters and boxes of treats, they are quick + friendly and I love the roots to this place. 10/10 highly recommend. read more

Went for an Italian type breakfast bagel (prosciutto, egg, some type of Italian cheese or Gouda) and no one behind the counter knew what prosciutto or Gouda was. Gouda, I may have understood (?) but an Italian ham? Maybe the name is a misnomer. The counter help seemed frustrated that they didn't know and rushed us through with eye rolls. Was asking for prosciutto on my bagel in an Italian bakery wrong? Ended up with a breakfast bagel that was fine and could have made at home. The best price for a lobster roll around! Small, which is a on a hamburger size bun, $9.50, and a large is $10.97 for one on a Italian sub roll. The desserts are just fantastic, cannoli's, tiramisu, biscotti, donuts, éclairs, and on and on. Its a tiny place, so its take out only. It has been here for at least 40 years even though the neighborhood has changed for the worse, its still very popular. They sell frozen lobster meat by the pound (market price)or you can preorder fresh. the lobster rolls are not heavy on the mayo so the flavor is all lobster. They open at 6 am, and also sell breakfast sandwiches. Might just have to do a stop before leaving town ! read more
