However, they are terrible at communicating where the person directly helping me asked what format of a hard drive I wanted back (Mac) and they wrote down Windows. He also asked if there was a particular folder to aim for because not all the data on a drive can be recovered (which I do understand) and they charged me over 1000 for just that folder and nothing else on the drive. Although it took SEVERAL weeks and I began to get nervous and frustrated, Sean (one of the managers) made sure that I finally received my drive with all my family photos. For starters they broke my partners Hard Drive we sent in as a back up and sent it back twice in disrepair. In addition they charged me to fix an issue on a drive they later determined was not recoverable or repairable by them and have refused to refund and still haven't bothered to send back the drive. I've been robbed and to make matters worse after dozens of phone calls to remedy the situation, and tales of promises to return my call and get to the bottom of this, I now find that they escalated this to the owner who has also neglected to reach out to me in any form. Clearly I should have read the yelp reviews before wasting my time with this company. They are extremely hard to get ahold of, and treat you as if you are a bother when you do. They do not care about your business, and have a very nonchalant attitude of "you aren't obligated to use us". I will find someone else to complete my recovery after being quoted $300-$400 for recovery, and told it would take a few days. Almost two weeks later I finally get a response that they can recover the images but it will be $795. Um... nope. Why even bother quoting anything at all before hand? If that's what you charge, that's what you charge, but to dangle the carrot of $300-$400 and come back with a quote of double makes me, as a customer, not trust you. I was also promised I would be able to view what was recovered to make sure it was what I needed, yet when I spoke with Eric, that was also an issue. Eric was unprofessional and downright rude during this whole process, not to mention incredibly difficult to get ahold of. Be cautious. I made the call to describe my situation. At the end of the call I asked him to ballpark the cost stating that I knew he couldn't give me a firm quote until they saw the device. I was given a range of $200 to $900 so I sent the device. A few days later I received a call describing the work that needed to be done. I was then told the work would cost me $1900. I said that I needed to think about it. I then started getting calls from a polite but aggressive salesperson, each time lowering the cost. "Good news, I just talked to my manager and we can recover your data for $xxx. I don't know how long this will last so you need to call me right away." The final price they gave me was $800. I would have done it but asked to have the device sent back out of principle. More than doubling the price of what I was told it could be and then cutting the price down to more than half of the original didn't sit well. They were however very responsive and professional and I have no doubt they would have recovered my data. read more

Unimaginably Horrible experience!!! They originally scanned my hard drive, it was 100% recoverable, they failed to send the data I requested, Took months to get the drive sent back for re-scanning, they claim that UPS lost it, even though I had a tracking number to show it was signed for in their office. Miraculously later it shows up but this time it is "unreadable". This has gone on for almost 8 months, they refuse to send me my drive, or to refund anything. Worst service on the planet. Period. Two months ago I had one of the worst things happen. A failed hard drive. One that contained my entire music collection and photos from the past 15 years. All gone. I searched the web for data recovery services and happened to do the online estimate at Field Data Recovery. I was called by them later in the day about sending in my drive and I would know within 24-48 hours if they could retrieve my files from the drive. I never heard from them. I called and was told they were close and I should hear something within 24-48 hours from them. Still I never heard back from them. I figured they were working on it and gave them a week and called back. Once again they had no details and I was told I would hear from them in 24-48 hours. Never heard from them. I let another week pass and called again. I got the exact same response as I got the first two times. Yet again after the 24-48 I heard nothing. I gave them another week and called again. This time the person in charge of my drive was unavailable (in a meeting). The person answering the phones kept interrupting and cutting me off (I guess she did not want to hear me complain as I am sure they get a lot of that, but seriously how rude). I finally was able to ask to speak with a manager and he came on the phone, apologized, told me a little more about the condition of the drive and then once again told me I would hear something from them in 24-48 (it has been 24 hours and I don't believe that I will hear back from them tomorrow). Everything I have read about this company is telling me that they pull this crap and keep your files hostage so you pay exorbitant prices once they finally get back to you. Don't listen to them when they say 24-48 hours, as this is apparently 4 plus weeks for these guys. I have no confidence in this company to live up to any of their promises made on their site or on the phone. I had an interview today in St. Louis at 1010 Market St suite 590. The company is called Fields Data Recovery. They recover your lost data from hard drives SD cards etc. So the interview is going well then Sean who interviewed me starts going over objections of price. He says when the customer asks about costs he is going to say "I have seen this problem before and it can cost anywhere between $400 to $500 but I can't guarantee it." He then says "But we are a capitalist society so I know I'm going to charge them at least $1400. How do you feel about that?" I looked at him and as like are you being serious. So you want me to tell people that it can be $400 to $500 so they will send their items in and then I will charge them a minimum of $1400. I can't do that that is wrong. Needless to say I didn't get a job offer. This is what gives sales people a bad name. I am going to lie to you to get what I want and take advantage. This disgusts me. I can't say enough about Fields Data recovery. I had a dead hard drive. 2 other computer professionals tried and couldn't get anything. Fields was able to pull down almost everything. Disappointed. I mailed them my 1TB external hard drive to them in a returned UPS label provided by FDR. A couple of days later received call that my data was retrieval and parts to repair were available in house. When I was told the cost would between $800 - $1200, I was shocked. When I asked why so expensive, I was told because of the damage and the amount of time and effort. I declined and received an e-mail weeks later that my drive was being returned via USPS within 30 days. Upon receipt, it arrived with no outer case and no explanation. I gave them all my pertinent information, paid the $880, and never heard from them again. The paperwork I got when I paid had a support email address that I tried twice and never got a response so I called 3 months later and they had the wrong name on the account and couldn't even call me by my name, on the phone, though I gave it to them twice. I had sent my faulty drive and backup drive to this company. They gave me a free shipping label and I sent the two drives through that. The manager in the company acknowledged through phone that they received both the backup drive and faulty drive. Later I wanted them to send both the drives back as I did not want to go through their service. They sent me the faulty drive and did not sent me the backup drive. This three months since that incident and I am following up with them. They are now saying that they do not have evidence of getting my backup drive. Accomplished what they promised albeit it took a little longer than they aestimated and didn't keep me as well informed as they said they would. They were able to recover 175GB of about 750Gb but most of what they couldn't recover were program files and the Windows folder which I wouldn't except them to be able to successfully recover. All the files the did recover are in good useful condition. That included documents spreadsheets pictures, videos and many other file types. After three years, I finally worked up the courage to get a data recovery estimate on the USB drive that housed 14 GB of photos/videos. As a graduate student, I am on a budget. The initial estimate was way too far out of my price range and so I asked for my USB to be returned, hoping to one day proceed with the process when I started my career! The man I was working with agreed, but responded a week later with a quote that was half the price. I proceeded with the recovery and now have all of my data back!! To start with, if you do not read beyond this, just look elsewhere for data recovery if you want good customer service. I am not giving this review two stars simply because they could not recover my data. I am giving them two stars for impossibly terrible customer service. My CSR for my case, Emily, was an ethereal ghost that "works" for Fields Data Recovery. My first interaction was fine, as they were quick to respond to my initial inquiries (of course they were good the first time, they want my business). Eventually Emily told me after couple of weeks of me calling in for a status that the baseline attempts were unsuccessful and I needed to pay the non-refundable $800+ to have them surgically access the data. This SSD was not damaged by fire/water, and Emily told me she that it was likely they could get my data back since it was not considered a physically damaged drive, so I paid it. During the few months following, no contact from them, no phone calls or emails. I called a handful of times during that time and they would always say that Emily is on a call or at lunch and that somebody would call me back and give me an update. That never happened. Crickets. Finally today I sent an email asking for an update and they called me back to tell me they could not get the data back. Finally some information! James on the phone tells me they sent me an email a week prior telling me this, which they did not. I just want to warn anyone out there considering them to decide whether or not radio silence and an agent telling you that "it should not be a problem getting the data off since it was not physically damaged" is misleading. Hands down the worst possible service I could ever expect. My hard drive had a busted drive-head on a hard drive I stored research data on. When I first asked Fields for a turn-around time on a repair job for that, I was told it would take a week for my device to be looked at, repaired, and returned to me. I was also asked to source a blank identical drive for parts, if I could. I did. First things first: Every attempt to contact them by email failed to get a response until I'd sent at least three emails over the course of a week. Never did they respond sooner than a week after I'd sent an email. Every attempt to contact them by phone got me the run-around on hold until I was told a supervisor/manager would call me back. That never happened. Fields didn't get back to me with anything solid for three weeks, despite repeated attempts to contact them after a week had past. When they finally did, I was told they hadn't looked at it yet. Yet more weeks later, they finally got to it. Apparently. They said they couldn't use my spare drive and had to source their own, wanted me to pay for that. Then they gave me a file list which contained all of the folder but less than 1% of the files. Which should not have happened, because a busted drive-head doesn't cause significant drive damage. I don't know what they did to it, but they messed something up in a big way. There was still a tiny amount of data listed as retrieved though, so I grit my teeth and paid them to get the drive back. The drive, when returned yet more weeks later (10 weeks in total), despite repeated questions of "where is the drive you told me you were sending back?" When it finally arrived, it came with a USB drive which had my minuscule amount of retrieved data and no spare hard drive. Which I had explicitly and specifically asked in (at first ignored, but eventually responded to) emails if it would be returned to me. The USB had my folders, but as it turns out most of the "retrieved" files were corrupted and I couldn't get any data off of it. The returned 'repaired' drive was broken beyond repair and couldn't be reused. And the spare drive is still missing in action, presumably lost or stolen by Fields. At every step of the way communication was awful, nonexistent, and I was repeatedly lied to. And I know it may seem like I'm really upsetabout this and ... well that's because I am. I'm normally really accommodating about delays, problems, etc. from service companies. I've worked in the service industry myself, I get it. But this was outright malignantly bad service. There's no excuse for it. Oh and at one point when asking for a pay form I hadn't been given for the third time that week, I was sent a 'pay form' ... which was a .png of someone else's file tree. So add general incompetence to the list. If Fields isn't an outright scam (which I wouldn't rule out), they're the worst data recovery service I've ever heard of. Never use them. read more

Scoundrels. Don't be mislead by their advertised prices or the bunk they tell you over the phone. Needed data recovered from hard drive. Was told verbally by their representative Daniel Maynard that they were extremely confident they could recover my data -- said no data was damaged, just the heads on my drive. Their advertised prices are highly misleading, too. The cheapest service they offer is $1895. Mr. Maynard's verbal assurances were the only reason I moved forward with their $1895 fee. Who would otherwise take this chance? Well, guess what? I eventually received phone call that "nothing could be done." This $1895 fee supposedly covered things like parts for a new drive, etc, but there is no evidence of that. Where are the parts I supposedly paid for? Not to mention that I asked them to wait to perform the services until hearing from me -- I never actually signed their credit card authorization form. Do NOT use this company. Sent in my hard drive and it obviously has some damage to it. Eventually they were able to get to my files. Though I only needed TWO of the files from my entire hard drive, and BOTH were on my desktop, they wouldn't take $500 to drop & drag 2 files for me. They wanted $650. Once they found out I couldn't afford the $650, "Dan" said he would get with his manager to see if they could provide my 2 files to me for $500...and he'd call me back. Two days later he never called so I called him. He told me they couldn't provide my 2 files for $500. I told him that people who don't have a lot of $ deserve calls backs too. I was an IT for more than 15 years in the military. These hacks think when you don't understand what it takes and you don't have the $ they want, they can just tell you anything. I dropped my External Hard Drive and when I reattached it to my computer I heard the dreaded clicking sound. So I searched for a company online, I found Fields Data Recovery. I spoke with a representative and explained my situation. I was skeptical at first as I didn't want to spend the money on the drive unless I had a file list of the contents that I would get recovered. The representative reassured me that they spend millions of dollars on recovering data and they could get the file list from the drive at no cost even if the heads are damaged with free shipping both ways whether I accept or reject the service. So I went ahead and shipped the Hard Drive to them. A few days later a representative called me saying that they couldn't get the file list and that I would have to pay money to replace the heads of the drive. I rejected the service because it cost too much and I didn't receive a file list. A week later I received the Hard Drive without the external enclosure. After I complained they shipped back the enclosure. I left both boxes on a shelf scrambling for weeks to look for a more cost effective company. I found one in my area and took it in to them. As I was watching the guy from the company, he showed me that the previous company (Fields Data Recovery) did not seal the lid on the Hard Drive, exposing it to dust and effectively erasing most of the data. The next day I called the branch manager from Fields Data Recovery and explained the problem to him. He got defensive telling me that his technicians always properly seal the lids on. I said in this case they did not and how much compensation would I receive for his company erasing my data. He said would give me a dollar and I was insulted. I called back asking to speak to someone higher up in the company. I was then put in contact with a Representative from Corporate. She also denied that her technician would not properly secure the lid on the Hard Drive. She told me they don't guarantee success rate of any repair. I replied that I didn't even ask for the work to be done once I found out they couldn't send a file list and how is that relevant to this situation. I asked for compensation for the now bricked Hard Drive and she refused accountability even after I showed her a picture of the opened Hard Drive. Fields was able to recover all of the files from my soldered eMMC hard drive and kept me up-to-date during each step of the recovery process. Getting the hard drive to them was incredibly easy thanks to the free shipping label they provided, and once they had access to my drive they sent me a file list of everything they could recover before we agreed to move forward with the recovery itself. I'll admit they were incredibly expensive, but from what I could find no more or less than comparable services, and without a down payment or deposit. While some of their correspondence took days and others minutes, they were in contact with me during each update on the process and follow-up post-recovery. The process did take quite a while and exceeded their own return window for the drive itself, meaning that if I didn't agree to their recovery terms they wouldn't return my drive or machine in any capacity. I always read reviews before I work with a company and why I didn't this time, has now haunted me. I sent off a SD card that had my daughter's first steps, first photos, etc., on it. They were great at the start and made me feel really good about using them. Cost at the beginning seemed great. After the initial assessment of the card, they then wanted many hundreds more and possibly then many more hundreds. I told them to send back my card and take no further action with it. I spoke to someone who assured me they would call with a quote before repairs on a hard drive I sent them and send it back without question if I said no and they even assured me the price wouldn't be over 400.00. They sent me an email with a pricetag of 1,200.00 or 1.05K if I pay now. I never approved for repairs and I never would have for that price. I have demanded they return my hard drive in the condition I sent it to them. I will update this once I hear back from them. But please do not do any business with these scammers. read more

They might be technically competent but logistics are poor. I'll skip the details as my experience is much like everyone else. Bottom line, it took 2 full months from when they received my drive until I received it back. They quoted $500 up front to buy an identical drive for parts, then $300 to perhaps retrieve data. I declined. Be advised: If you call them, they will send a prepaid shipping label to send in your drive. You have 28 days from when they receive your drive to request it be returned. They sent me this mail first: "...your device has been ruled as a failed NAND device. A Monolith Chip Lift (MCL) is necessary for this recovery. ... The total cost for this will be $1800.00 Of that, $900 would be due up front for the additional labor. The $900 upfront is non-refundable, however we have a 75% success rate in performing a MCL..." If I could give zero stars, I would. I sent a MicroSD card to these guys back in November of 2012. According to the tracking info, it was received and signed for. It is over a year later and I still have not heard from them. I have left numerous phone messages & I have sent numerous emails. I have yet to get a response. I try calling every few days and I have NEVER yet had a human being answer the phone. At this point, I just want the MicroSD card back and I can't even get a person to communicate with!
