On the road again....just can't wait to get off the road again....ok enough Willie in my brain. On our way back to Nash from Asheville NC to ski (which was fun but kind of a disaster) we were hankering for some Mexican - now mind you we are originally from Arizona where Mexican food is plentiful and authentic...not that the food here isn't authentic but we miss AZ Mexican food. I digress.... Ambiance: From the outside it isn't the most inviting place - looks like an Arby's or other fast food was here originally - however inside is decorated like any other Mexican cantina would be - colorful and bright. Service: We were seated and then attended to by our waitress..who unfortunately did not speak much English at all...so we tried to convey the drink orders and that went ok, however it was a challenge on the food - several attempts were made to convey boneless wings and fajitas and we were hoping it worked. Once we ordered someone else brought the food (bone in wings) and fajitas! So half of the order went well...however we didn't see our waitress again for over an hour...seemingly too busy speaking to friends or family on the back of the restaurant and on the register doing who knows what as it was not busy at all (maybe 2 other tables while we were there). Food: Chips and salsa were so so - chips were not hot and were kind of rubbery..Fajitas were ok, chicken was less fresh than I'm used too and the vegetables were soggy not crisp - side of beans was runny and guac was also watery. The chicken wings that my son ordered were not good...not exactly sure why as a 14 yr old can just be picky but he didn't touch them after the 1st bite even slathered in ranch - said the sauce was less than appealing. Price: High for the quality and service we experienced...could have been an off day for them as sometimes on a Sunday evening of a holiday weekend people are just done but when you run a business you just can't take your foot off the gas, Summary: Seems this may be more of a place for friends and family of the owners / staff or inlets lical clientele as we did not feel the love in service nor food quality so for me it's a pass but hey you never know... But, I found the menu a little hard to follow because it was just a paper listing the items. Also, the chips were just average. I ordered the taco combination plate and it was pretty good. I liked the tacos and sauces. For this, I might go back. But, the other items that we ordered we just average. Overall: Recommended. But, it isn't the best in town or the most unique. We went here because of the Yelp reviews and were not disappointed. From the outside it looks like a fast food joint but once inside it had a very nice ambience. I had the three tacos plate and it was very good, the extra salsa brought to the table were tasty and had some good heat. My friend wasn't very hungry and ordered the kids meal taco plate and they didn't have a problem with this. My friend had a margarita which was very good. Our service was excellent! This place is a convenient stop off the main road. The atmosphere is inviting and the menu is colorful. The chips and salsa were average but still edible. I sampled the guacamole and it was good but not great. I ordered the taco platter and was very pleased. The tortillas are fresh. The cilantro and onions were crispy and tangy. The three meat selections were wonderful! I was very impressed and felt like I was back in Mexico at a street cart. The refried beans were soupy and tasty but best if mixed with the rice. My wife and I stopped here while on our road trip and we both enjoyed the meal. The chips were decent and they made sure we never were short on chips and salsa. We also got the queso dip which I thought was pretty tasty and they gave us a generous portion. I got the steak fajitas and the steak wasn't super flavorful, but I appreciated that the meat wasn't cooked until it was like beef jerky. The onions were cooked very nicely and the peppers were thicker than what I'm used to and it added a different taste for me. The sides they gave were a pleasant surprise for me. This is one of the rare cases where I ate the rice as for me, I thought the rice was flavorful. My experience is where the rice is often like dry styrofoam. Lastly, I'd go back here again just because of the employees. The hostess was very warm and friendly, and then our server was a young man that was just as friendly. We were seated right away, the music is nice and at a nice volume, and I was pleasantly surprised by the decor. The inside of this restaurant is so inviting and fun--very colorful. I ordered the lunch #5 (chicken enchilada verde and beef taco) and my husband got the pollo loco. The tortillas were incredibly soft and fresh, the meat was tender and flavorful, vegetables were fresh. I rarely ever finish a meal but my plate was clean!!! He ordered a beer and I ordered a classic marg on the rocks. The marg was decent and was only $3.99. The fajitas were also pretty tasty and plenty for us to share. The main reason for the 4 stars was the service. Our server barely mumbled to us and acted almost like we were bothering her. Everything did come out quickly, so I will give them that. This is the best food that we have had in Knoxville! We came here for our honeymoon and these kind people have definitely showed us a great time. We are from Alabama and you wouldn't believe it, but it's some good Mexican food there. This experience knocked it out of the park. The servers went above and beyond. I'm really surprised to see so many high reviews of this place, although those high remarks make me want to come back and eat dinner there. I only had lunch, but I looked over the dinner menu and it looked like they had a lot of good seafood dishes especially, so if those seafood dishes were good, anywhere near as good as La Bamba, I would revise my review. But based on my experience at a launch, I can't say anything more than "it's OK." The lunch menu is pretty limited and pretty standard, even less choice and variety than most other Mexican place lunches. The free salsa was just a purée, a decent taste but nothing special for sure. The combo plate I ordered had a taco that was maybe one small step above Taco Bell, an enchilada that probably wasn't as good as most from the Bell, very mundane rice and beans even. Both the taco and enchilada had serious flaws. The taco shell was a little stale and a soggy, the enchilada was very plain and topped with a thin coating of red sauce, no cheese. Given that there are several decent Mexican places near that area, I would not go back unless I heard that the seafood on the menu was really excellent. read more

My Family of 4 visited this place because it said 4.5 stars. The parking lot was practically empty, and that should have been our first sign. Also I must add that their were practically no guests so this was not a result of them being busy. We go in order waters, get them and we wait another 20mins for the lady to come back as we are watching her sitting at another table talking to other customers as if she was part of their party. When she finally comes back and brings chips my daughter asks for cheese dip and she doesn't bring it, and has to be reminded a second time for the cheese dip. Then ask for refill of chips, she procceeds to bring all of us our food in separate trips and never take the chip basket.. so we ask again if we can have more chips, so she leaves and takes the basket.. afterwards she sits at another table for a WHIIILE.. we are still waiting for chips.. we didnt get chips until after we sent the flautas back. The food wasn't awful, but definitely under seasoned and my Son didn't like his chicken flautas, and wanted to tell the waitress, but she yet again had set down at another customers table chatting with them, and the customer saw us glaring toward the waitress, so the customer got the waitresses attention. Then we sent back the flautas and they trade it for fajitas. But when everyones done eating the buss boy comes to take a couple plates, and we ask for a box and the ticket and he says he will get it, but he never brings it; he comes outta the kitchen and starts talking to other customers. My Son has to wave her down and she holds her finger up(like just a minute). The food was fair, nothing extra, but this SERVICE IS HORRIBLE! ABSOLUTELY PITIFUL. TL;DR: Food wasn't bad but the service sucked. Our waitress talked to other customers like they were her best friends but disregarded us, not caring to show us how little she cared. Husband found this spot on the way home and let me tell you: AMAZING. I had the Pollo Chipotle, which is a creamy chipotle sauce, and it was SO GOOD. I didn't want to stop eating! My husband got the enchiladas viva Mexico, which is three different small enchiladas with different sauces and he loved it. Corn tortillas were delicious. Everything was very clean. Staff was great. The portion sizes of our meals were huge. Bigger than I expected and could have easily taken half the nachos home. The only reason I gave this four stars is because of the margaritas. It was only $2.99 (happy hour) which is a great deal but it wasn't as good as others out there and they did not have frozen margaritas. Fiesta Garibaldi is worth the trip and would recommend it.
