Good effort yet took so long! Honda needed plugs, valve adjust and I added Emissions. When I added emissions, I wasn't told they don't do that, would need to use 3rd party. That added a day. Next day car drove for road test and got emissions done. Valves couldn't be adjusted until engine cold again. Finally, finally car was ready at 6:07PM/closing. Next day was holiday/weekend, barely got car back in time! read more

Spent $3,000 on preventative, high mileage Audi recommended maintenance for a 2018 Audi Q3. Specifically requested cooling system, hoses, belts, and timing chain check for high mileage Audi scheduled maintenance. Was told the cooling system was fine and the timing chain was in great working order, no need for maintenance. 2 weeks later the water pump leaked and the timing chain needed replacing, along with camshaft positioning. I took it somewhere else for the work. Spending another $3,000 but this time the work is actually being done. $6,000 total for what I asked 5th Gear to do the first time. They were nice people and attentive and followed up the first few days. But once the vehicle had problems for what they were asked to do, I decided to take it somewhere else place else for that work. read more

Fifth Gear Automotive-Argyle SAVED Christmas!! Here's the story... My child has only asked for ONE thing this year. A pink car. We have tried convincing her of 56378 other things but she's stuck to this one thing. So, I did a ton of research and found a car that would be big enough to last her a few years. Black Friday I made the big purchase from Amazon and we hid the large box in my parent's garage in Northlake. So, yesterday, I took the day off work to go to my child's Christmas Party at school and decided to head over that morning to see if I could put the car together since we only have a few more days before Christmas! I get everything out and the very first step is to insert the rear axle to attach the back wheels. Problem is, the rear axle has a 45* bend on one side and doesn't want to go in. I start frantically looking up YouTube videos of other people building these cars and they all have straight axles! Why is mine bent?! I jump on Amazon, contact seller, fill out the form. Look for any similar car to be shipped if I can't build the one I have, nothing on Amazon can be delivered before Christmas! Call Amazon and talk to a really nice guy that confirms nothing can get to me soon but he will try to get me a replacement part by January . This is when my Dad may have felt my panic from inside the house and comes out to the garage. He suggests I may call some auto places nearby and see if they have a tool to bend the steele bar straight. It's my only hope! So I start calling, 3 different shops were very kind but couldn't help... until I called Fifth Gear! Ashton Wyatt, the Service Advisor, picks up the phone and says he may be able to help but would need to see the axle. So I rush up there and he is SO kind! He says they can try to quickly bend it cold but it may likely break so he would rather have some time to heat it up and bend it properly, in between the other ACTUAL cars they're working on for the day! He asked if I could give them a few hours and I tell them OF COURSE! He calls a few hours later and says not only is the rod straight but that they even touched up the paint and it's dry and ready for pick up!!! When we went to pick it up they REFUSED any sort of payment to thank them for their time and service! They said they were just grateful they could help save Christmas!!! And they did just that! Seriously y'all, if you have any automotive needs that Fifth Gear in Argyle can service, I would HIGHLY recommend checking them out! Optimal service! I had brought my 2005 Toyota 4-runner to this mechanic as I had some issues with my brakes. They then send me a report with photos and descriptions of each point they inspected. Gave me a breakdown on the report of what was viable, needing attention, or needing repair. I LOVE THAT! As someone who has unfortunately had many issues with vehicles, I never have received such a comprehensive report with photos! The team was super flexible with me. High prices and overkill on the suggested work, I paid the diagnostic fee and took it somewhere else for much less. The salesman who helped me was friendly and I felt like I was at a used car dealer where the salesman explains all the fees while they overcharge you and smile- not going back but the oil leaks in the vehicle are being repaired for substantially less than the quote I was given. The suggested work entailed many things additional to the oil leak- the car absolutely needed work and is in the shop right now, just not this shop, not all the work they suggested, and not for the prices they gave. read more

My wife took our truck in a while back. She asked a ton of questions but never really got answers. The AC was not working in it. It is an older truck and from the start we told them that we understood that there were issues with it but we were just trying to get through the brutal part of summer with AC. We mentioned that we didn't have a huge budget for the issue. They had the truck for a few days doing their "diagnostic". This included taking pictures of serval things and pointing out a laundry list full of issues with the truck. They came back to us with a quoted price of over $4k to replace the whole AC system. Not really explaining what was wrong with it, but instead trying to sell us on that being the fix for it. They also came back to us with another $4k worth of work that needed to be done to the truck. Again not telling us what the issues were but instead trying to sell us on the specific services. I also want to point out that half of the things they pointed out were replaced a little over a year ago. They also didn't mention anything about the glaring issue with the transmission. It slips when braking. We've know about it for a while but they didn't say anything about it. Makes me wonder what they went through with their "diagnostic" Well last week i finally had the time to look in to the AC myself. After a few googles, youtube videos, and calls to trusted friends I decided to order and replace the compressor clutch. A part that costs a little over $100. Took about 30 minutes to replace and now we have AC. I'm left with these questions: What do they even try to diagnose? Did they even test the AC? Or run through any troubleshooting on it before telling us the whole system needed to be replaced? Why does it cost $4k to replace the whole AC system? Lowest quote we got for the same thing was $1500 and the regular was about $2500 for parts and labor. That just doesn't seem to add up there. Why does it feel like we went to a used car salesman and not a mechanic? Last but not least why did we spend $200 for them to try selling us $8k in parts and labor on a truck that is worth $12k on it's best day? I'm curious if i was the one that had brought the truck in if they would have given us more reasons on what the issues actually were. Instead my wife feels as if she got the female runaround that most mechanics do nowadays. read more

This review is long overdue. I have been bringing my vehicles to Fifth Gear for about a year now. I have a range of vehicles from old to new, domestic to European. These guys don't blink an eye at either. No matter how small or big the job, Jaimie and his team are quick to jump on it. I use to own a shop and have rarely experienced a team that does such quality work for such fair prices. If you are local, they even have porters to take you back to your house. My wife's van was overheating, so we took it here on a referral. Big mistake. Dropped it off after hours on a Sunday and spoke with a technician at 8am Monday morning to tell them what was happening. They said they would check it out and someone would contact me with an estimate. By 12:30 PM, I still hadn't heard from anyone. I called and was told it would probably be another hour, but someone would either email or text me with what was wrong and then call to discuss pricing. When they finally called, they quoted me $1400 to fix three coolant leaks. They said they would have to complete that work first before they could test to see if the heads were cracked. If they ended up being cracked, it could be up to another $4000. Since the van is a 2003 but with only 121,000 miles on it, it's not worth putting that much money into it. I told him not to complete any repairs and I would be by to pick it up the next day. When I came to pick up the van, I was told my balance will be $122! I asked, "For what? " to which they replied "For the diagnostic time. Is that not what you were quoted?" I wasn't quoted anything! No one said there would be charges up front simply to check out the vehicle to see what was wrong with it. When I mentioned to the service advisor that I had never had an automotive provider charge to simply check out a vehicle to see what the issue is, his reply was "Just like you get paid to work, so do we. Well, nobody works for free!" What a jerk! No apology. No explanation. Nothing! He wouldn't even take time to get up from his desk 10 feet away to discuss the situation and would barely even take the time look away from his computer to speak with me! At least the tech handling the payment apologized for any misunderstanding. I don't know what kind of work these guys do; it may be the best automotive care in the world. However, I'll certainly never find out because they'll never get my business again. If you go to these guys for repairs (and I would HIGHLY suggest you find somewhere else), make sure you get a quote for everything they're going to charge you for in writing FIRST and make sure they're not trying to sneak in charges on you. UPDATE: I got the same repairs for the 3 coolant leaks fixed that they quoted me $1400 to fix for $750 at another shop in Keller! Just because you have an Argyle zip code doesn't mean you have to charge outrageous prices. read more

I bring them my 2013 Mercedes Benz C250 I was having issues with my car starting they did diagnostics test and said it was issues with the battery I had a warranty on my battery still so I got brand new battery for a lower price somewhere else because I didn't get the battery " from them" which was a still brand new battery they tried to say that's why my car stopped working again the day I got it back. Ashton did offer to pick my car and run a diagnostics for free but the way he was handling the situation and being rude i didn't want my car to go back there so i don't recommend this business at all . read more

About two weeks ago, I had a serious issue with my vehicle. The air suspension system went out, and I couldn't raise my vehicle to normal height. My car towed to the dealer as I knew this was likely a covered service under my extended warranty. After having my car for three days, the dealer called me and told me it would be $9200 to fix, including the back brakes. They also said my warranty would only cover $4100.00. I was taken aback by this because this is not the first time I've had to replace air suspension in an early model with the same problem. It didn't cost that much as it was covered by insurance. When I called my insurance company, they told me the dealer was unreasonable and would not work with them. I called the dealer and asked what was going on. They said they would not put in after-market parts. I understood that, so I asked for the cost breakdown on the parts they currently had bundled with labor. They were marketing up the MSRP by 50% to 150% on each part, to my shock. How did I know this? I called my long-time service dealer in California and asked what it would cost to ship the parts to the Southlake dealer. I would save $2800. They refused to accept parts from another dealer. I called Jamie at Fifth Gear Automotive. Jamie immediately went into motion. He gave me a quick estimate, told me he would work with my insurance, and even towed my vehicle to his shop free of charge. It turns out, Jamie got the warranty company to cover everything except my $200 deductible. I even had them do my brakes for 60% of the dealer price. Their customer service is so good; they even dropped the vehicle off at my house once it was completed. I am so so grateful to them! I can't imagine doing this to people in general and then to people after we have all suffered so much from COVID. What a truly disgusting and heartless dealership. A very professional and clean shop. I stopped by without an appointment to have my brakes checked out since they make noise in mornings and they did a free inspection on my Mustang to let me know what else it might need. Turned out the brakes did not need to be replaced at all and they just needed some new hardware that was rubbing. I didn't think that with such low mileage my car would need anything but they showed me and gave some ideas on service by mileage and also what to look for coming up with my car. I decided to try an established shop, with a new location in Argyle. I couldn't be more pleased...they quickly identified warped rotors on the FRONT, so replaced them & the pads. Upsell city. They pushed a brake flush and insisted I needed on, I just had one a year before. They insist on doing rotors on every brake replacement. They managed to find as many other things they could. When I confronted them they said, oh well we can not do those things if you don't want to. Ridiculous, don't say I need it then!!! read more

I made an appointment and dropped my car off for regular service/oil change. They said they had some other cars ahead of me but they'd definitely get to it that afternoon and didn't anticipate any major issues/more than a few hours of work. It got close to 4:30/5 pm and I still hadn't heard anything (they're supposed to send a "report card" for your car and then get approval for any needed work) so I called to check in. Got a call back saying they got busy but getting the mechanic to look at it now and will give me a call back shortly. Closing time rolls around and still no word so I call again and of course no one is there to answer the phone anymore. So...THEY KEPT MY CAR OVERNIGHT without any notice or approval! What if I had to go to work early the next morning or drop my kids off at school or had medication in my car I needed or any number of things? They dropped the car off at my house (also without checking with me to see if I was home) and gave a discount but still not a very good first impression. read more

We called about an engine light that we had a definitive diagnostic from when we were getting our yearly car inspection. We were there for an estimate for a spark plug and coil. They were very kind and acted professional. We left our car with them and when we got the estimate it as nearly $200 more than what the dealership was charging. We declined the service and went to pick the vehicle up. When we were checking out, they were going to charge us $180 for diagnosing a problem we already knew! And, they went on a fishing expedition looking for things to replace. Funny thing though, when they said our oil needed to be changed they referred to the date on our sticker for our tires to be rotated! They said our drive belt needed to be replaced and it had just been replaced a year ago. When we pointed out that we already knew what the problem was and that they were not asked to do a full car inspection, we just asked for an estimate to fix the spark plug and coil...and they didn't disclose up front what the cost was going to be, they said, " oh, if we didn't disclose to you we'll take the charges off". read more
