During the oil change, they asked if I wanted to pay them $10 to clean corrosion off my battery, after I declined, they said my battery was bad and need $200+ for replacement. They showed me a battery test receipt with 77% battery health and said they will put that I declined on their record. I have prorated battery warranty at another place, so I'll go check the battery out there. They also didn't replace my oil filter because they said it looked new but asked me to change my cabin air filter for $60. Their sticker on my windshield is also showing plate numbers of another car, so not sure my address and phone number etc that they took went to the right record. My warning light also came on the same afternoon, so I'll have to go figure out what that is about, probably at another place too. The upside is that it was quick for the oil change, took about 15 minutes.

To elaborate, I got my rear brakes, rotors, and calipers replaced at the end of May/start of June because they'd been grinding for a while. I called ahead to see what the wait would be and was told there wasn't much of a wait, but I pulled in to see that their wait list was overflowing into the neighboring Starbucks' parking lot. After dropping off and waiting for over 4 1/2 hours, they finally give me an update, tell me they'll have to hold my truck overnight, and say they'll call around 11:00AM to give me the OK to pick up. At 11:15 the next day, I call up there because I hadn't heard anything, and they tell me it's gonna be another 20-30 minutes and that they'll call me when it's ready. At 1:00PM, I call again because they still hadn't gotten back to me, and they tell me that it'd been ready for about an hour. I get over there, pick it up, and go about my day. About a month later, I start hearing a grinding again, so I take my truck back to them. Again, I called ahead to see what the wait would be, and they tell me that they could check it out pretty much right when I get there. I drop it off and see there's only a few other cars and figure they're being legit this time. I don't hear anything for almost three hours, and when they finally call, they tell me that the rear left brake pads were installed backwards, so they had to replace the calipers and pads once again. Furthermore, they found a few new things that need to be replaced (which they somehow missed when I brought it in a month prior), so I forked out a few hundred extra dollars on some of that. They let me know when it was ready to go this time, so I went back about 40 minutes later and picked it up, thinking I wouldn't have to do anything else on my brakes for a while. Cut to last week. I'm pulling out of a parking lot and hear a completely different grinding noise from before coming from the rear again. I pull over to check it out, and my rear right caliper has fallen off and is grinding against the wheel itself. Both bolts holding it in place apparently came undone and popped out. I thankfully have a cousin whose a mechanic (who I probably should've gone to in the first place) and he gave me a temporary remedy for the situation and told me how to fix it once I have the right parts. I won't be going back to Brakes Plus because you'd think for a place with "Brakes" in their name, they'd do a better job of servicing and installing them. I actually learned how to replace my front brakes myself about a week after they replaced my rears, and I've had no issues with them thus far, and as a first-time brake technician, I don't think I should be outperforming the trained professionals who've been doing this for years. While the evidence is very circumstantial, it really feels like they do a subpar job just to get you to come back and charge more for other services. I will say, though, that I'm giving them two stars and not just one because the techs are very personable when you talk to them at the counter, they did cover the brakes they replaced after having installed them wrong, and they knocked almost $100 off of my initial brake replacement. However, when I pay $865 for someone to fix my brakes, I want it to be done right the first time.

He takes the time to properly troubleshoot and find the root cause of the problem. I took my 01 F250 to him with major transmission problems, and an intermittent electrical issue. He rebuilt the transmission within a few days, and we put heavy duty parts such as a torque converter and shift kit so it would be more equipped to pulling oversized loads. He also replaced the radiator which was full of metal shavings from the bad transmission Other shops told me my transmission was just fine, and it just needed an aftermarket cooler, which is why it was overheating. Also, I took it to 3 different shops who couldn't find the source of my intermittent electrical issues. Once the transmission was rebuilt, upon programming, he found the source of the breakdown, which was a faulty ECM which caused it not to shift properly and drastically overheat. We sent the ECM to a place to get repaired and he installed and programmed my truck to get it back on the road. Jose communicated the whole process, and did high quality work. He is the only mechanic that I have found to trust, and I wish there were more like him.

Oh man, especially Jose, the owner. Amazingly great and understanding guy! And he knows his stuff without a second thought. I came to Texas from Louisiana on an evacuation order due to Hurricane Ida. It's 100 degrees outside and my a/c goes KAPUT! An entire 8 hour drive in this sweltering heat with no a/c. When I made it to Texas I decided to take my vehicle to a neighborhood Christian Brothers. They were nice people but their prices were just too high for what I could afford at such last minute notice. They ran diagnostics and told me that my HVAC blower motor needed replacement as well as the motor resistor. They quoted me almost $700 for the job and I just couldn't afford it. I called around and was guided to Jose at AutoPro. I told him my situation and immediately he swept into gear making me feel really confident about everything he was saying. The knowledge and kindness would've been enough but on top of it all he offered to do it for a MUCH LOWER labor cost!!! I was floored and immediately drove my vehicle to the shop. It didn't take but maybe 10 minutes tops for him to advise me that the estimate given by Christian Brothers wasn't necessary and that the only issue was my blower motor. That alone saved me and additional $200 off of the estimate. In no time he had me on the road in freezing cold air. I'm thinking about moving to Denton just to know I have him around if ever there is an issue. Really great, confident, laid back guy. After I declined it took another 20 minutes for my car to be ready. At checkout, I asked if they used Conventional oil. The guy said no and went to ask for help. Then I was told they could order conventional oil but it would cost $50 more. I asked if I now had to stay with synthetic, another guy said I could go back. I was always under the impression once you switch an older vehicle to synthetic oil and run it through your engine you couldn't go back to conventional. Anyway, Thanks to Tommy's looks like I'm using synthetic now. Won't be going back to Tommy's. Continuing my search for a reputable and reliable place to get my car serviced.
